De Afghanan Kabob House

Went on weekend to this restaurant. It was on the way back from San Francisco. I tried mantu, ashe, combo kabob, and half order of gandana bolani. Everything tasted good. I could see the Ashe, and mantu were a little more tart than I am use to. All and all it was a good experience and I would go back if I'm in the Bay Area.

great afghani food. really great. Their chapli kabab are the best in the bay area - probably in america. their bolani and aushak are also excellent. Big portion sizes, fresh salad, good rice. Very good experience

Small place--mainly for take-out (barely enough seating for 5-7 people, at most). Chapli kabab is still my favorite. They are fairly friendly and flexible in that you can get your order with extra salad, or rice instead of bread, or vice versa. The De Afghanan is considered by many a Fremont landmark--in business for around 15 years. I have been here hundreds of times. I recommend.

This is my favorite Afghan restaurant. I love the little hole in the wall place but it often gets crowded. If so, you can walk a little to their proper sit down place. I love the Chapli Kebab, Tikka Beef and Chopan Kebab. Service is friendly.

I came here about ...7, 8 years ago. It was a hole in the wall. There was no place to sit. You felt like you were actually sitting in the middle of someones kitchen. The smoke emanating from the cooking was challenging. BUT - it's clearly the best Afghani food I've had. The meat is tender, the bolani is amazing, and the chutney is awesome. I hope it continues to stay a hole in the wall, if you can live with that piece of it - the food is really some of the best Afghan food I've had.

In fact everyone who rated this place less than 4 stars should have their account deleted [and/or be flogged] Notice that even the 'bad' reviews are not bad ratings in regards to the food, but on the service. For those fatcats who enjoy being waited on like princes they have opened a sit down restaurant a few yards down the road. You scallywags would give a bad review to a food stand in Afghanistan for poor service. ITS A RESTAURANT IN THE TICKET BOOTH OF A MOVIE THEATHER. The food is fantastic and that's what matters. The beef teka is perfection. Get it. This place is so good that among the fremont elite any food that gets close to costing $14 is invariably compared to de afghanan and loses in competition. Zabihah eateries in fremont have had to lower their price points to avoid competition with this place.

Simply amazing kabobs. Authentic food. Will surely recommend. Be aware that his place is more for take out and not very suitable for dining in.

ate here with the family. Food was flavourful and the bolany was the best I have had in a while. Great little place. Although its small it is very authentic and it was a good experience. small but intimate place tucked away on Fremont Blvd.

Food and service is great......There is very little room to sit as this place is mainly for take-out.......The people running the grill and counter don't speak much English, but they know enough to take your order and give the delicious meal. The Chapli Kabob and Boulani are great. I would say check it out if you haven't already.

A very good restaurant for people who care for Halal Food, taste and value for money and not much for ambiance [don't be American]. After reading some reviews where Halal authenticity was questioned by some, I asked the patron on my last visit and he assured me about it being 100% Halal. I'm giving 4 stars only because lot of people unfortunately like the place to be as good as the food.

Ordered take out from here after a long time. I believe this place is under new management becuase the food is not the same. They use to give you the nice afghani salad with potatoes and garbanzo beans but now it is just onions. The rice is plain white basmati. They don't even give the green or spicy red chutney as they use to. The Kabobs did taste good and fresh though. Unfortuntely this place is not as good as it was in the past. I hope they can make it better soon! Limited seating and they only take cash.

we went there for dinner with my friends and when we asked the guy if it was halal he said something to the effect that its halal because he said bismillah after he got the meat, so basically I dont trust that its halal. The food is pretty good but the owner scared us because he was so loud and obnoxious

Having the Tikkah Kabob right now. I took the suggestions below to do take-out. Delicious and Great Value for the money. Poor ladies are working very hard - an inadvertent over charge mentioned below is only human. If the wise brother below truly did not wish to embarass anyone he could start by not posting on the web.

Last week before new year 2004, I went there once with my friends and at another occasion with my wife and both times they overcharged me with atleast 30% margin. Please watch out. Also, when asked about water, they give customers a small bottle of water which he/she has to pay later. Seating is poor and I had to clean the tables myself. Food quality is definitly good (the reason I went despite their dishonesty). I find Chapli Kabob and Beef kabob extremely delicious. But over-ringing was a big turn off specially when I brought business to them despite my friend's insistence to go some place else. I didnt say anything to the cashier about over-ringing though becuase I didnt want to make the poor lady feel embarrassed on a new year's eve.

This is the best place to get Chapli kabab and Bolani. Its small but has great food, and the prices are reasonable. Call ahead to save time.

Food is really good, but there is barely any seating.

The food here is absolutely wonderful, but this place is only good for takeout. Waiting for a table takes forever. And even if you get a table, the service is very slow. Granted, it's because everything is made fresh, and the wait is worth it, but the whole experience is better if you call in 30 minutes in advance and take your food home.

This is the place to go for Chapli kabab and Bolani. There is very little space to sit and dine. Take out is the best option. The service is much to be desired like most of the Afghani places. Call in the order and pick it up a while later.

Teka Kabob, Shami Kabob, Chicken Kabob, Chapli Kabob, Boulani & more. Their chapli kabob is the best! Space is very, very limited, better to take out. Portions are big, and prices are good! ($5.50-$7.00) per plate.

Good food especially Boulani and Chapli Kabob. I give it a 7 out of 10.
