Roti John’s in East Richmond is such a gem. Located right outside the station, this cosy cafe is serving some of the best Malay sangas I’ve had in Melbourne. Every single dish we tried was full of flavour and made with so much care. We ordered the Golden Hour Roti John, which came packed with crispy golden fried chicken, soft omelette‑grilled roti, crunchy slaw and their signature sweet‑chilli sauce. Rich, crunchy and incredibly satisfying. The Rendang Roti John was another standout, with tender slow‑cooked beef rendang, crispy onions, pickles and slaw. So aromatic and comforting. The Classic Roti John kept it traditional with minced beef, pickles, slaw, sweet chilli and house sauce. Simple, juicy and delicious. The Rendang Nasi Lemak had beautifully fragrant coconut rice and paired perfectly with the rich rendang. We also grabbed a cookie, warm and soft, the perfect sweet finish. Drinks were all great too. The Milo Dino, creamy Teh Tarik and refreshing Strawberry Matcha were spot on. Portions are huge, flavours are bold, and the staff are genuinely amazing. Friendly, welcoming and so attentive. Loved everything about this visit. Highly recommend.
