Staff has given verbal assurance of halal status. From corporate headquarters: 'The chicken at all GYG restaurants is Halal certified - a copy of the certificate can be emailed upon request. We do have Halal certified chicken across all our locations. We do however work with other non-Halal meats and we do not follow halal processes in the kitchen.'

I visited GYG during their Cinco de Mayo celebration for the $10 burrito deal. The place is pretty big with plenty of seating and, as expected, it was busy. Surprisingly though, the wait time was really short, probably because they had plenty of staff working. I ordered a mild grilled chicken burrito. It came with grilled chicken, rice, black beans, cheese and pico de gallo, but no lettuce. Not sure if it was missed, costs extra, or if their burritos just don’t come with it? Lettuce aside, it was still quite hefty and tasty, so I was pretty happy with it overall. Service-wise, staff were friendly when ordering, but it’s a fairly self-serve setup after that. They call out orders and leave them on the counter, and you just grab it when it’s ready - no checks or anything. You also have to grab your own paper bag if it’s takeaway. Overall, good value for $10 and a solid quick meal.
