First visit to Laila Cafe, and now I understand the hype. Locals said this is the place for mee kolok, so we came with expectations… and they did not disappoint. The mee kolok tastes truly authentic, and the meat in the soup was so tender, soft, and easy to eat. Safe to say — this spot is worth the visit. Highly recommend Laila Cafe 🤍
Laila Cafe came highly recommended by locals, so my wife and I decided to give it a try together with three friends for breakfast. We visited on a Monday morning at around 8.00 am. Despite it being a weekday, the cafe was already quite full when we arrived. There was a short queue, but it moved quickly and we managed to get a table in less than five minutes, which was a pleasant surprise. We ordered a good variety of dishes to share. This included mi kolok, mi goreng seafood, mi kolok goreng, nasi ayam and two sets of butter kaya buns. Among all the dishes, the mi kolok goreng and the mi goreng seafood stood out the most. Both were flavourful and satisfying, and they were clearly the highlights of our breakfast. The other dishes were decent and complemented the meal well. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the service was fast, especially considering how busy the cafe was. The food arrived promptly, which made the overall experience smooth and enjoyable. Prices were affordable and reasonable for a local breakfast spot, making it good value for money. The cafe itself was clean and well maintained, adding to the comfort of dining there. Overall, Laila Cafe offers a solid local breakfast experience with tasty food, efficient service and a welcoming atmosphere. It is easy to see why it is popular among locals. I would be happy to drop by again the next time I am in the area.
Laila Cafe has a simple, comfortable setup that works well as a casual makan spot, and it’s easy to see why it has built a steady following. The place has a relaxed, neighbourhood-friendly feel that makes it approachable and unpretentious, the kind of café you can drop into without thinking too much. Service is generally smooth, and the overall environment makes for a pleasant, no-frills dining experience. The highlight here is their beef kolo mee, which comes loaded with vegetables and clearly takes a slightly modernised approach to a very traditional dish. Personally, I’m not a big fan of beef kolo mee to begin with, so to me the taste landed in the “passable” range rather than something I’d actively crave. The generous amount of vegetables also makes it feel less like classic kolo mee and more like a reinterpretation. That said, many of my acquaintances rate it highly and recommend it strongly, so this is likely one of those places where appreciation depends heavily on whether their style of beef kolo mee aligns with your own preferences.
Laila Cafe has been on my “to-go” list since last year, and it was also recommended by a donut seller at The Hills the day before, who said their mie kolok is good. I checked Google Maps again and realized I had already saved this place. I came here for breakfast the next morning. When I arrived around 10am, there were a few people queuing. Seating for waiting customers is limited and only a small area is shaded from the heat. A male staff member was already taking orders using a tablet before letting customers sit. I waited about 5 to 10 minutes, which was reasonable. The staff mentioned that the café is usually busy with both locals and non locals, especially tourists. I ordered the mie kolok goreng. There was no option to choose chicken or beef on the menu. On the table, condiments like soy sauce, chili, and mayonnaise were provided, along with cutlery and chopsticks. The restaurant was quite full that morning but looked clean, with plenty of seating and many menu options. I also ordered a hot Milo, but the first serving had almost no Milo or milk taste. After asking the staff to adjust it, the second cup tasted better but was less hot and slightly too sweet. I requested a cup of hot water and adjusted it myself. The mie kolok goreng arrived in about 10 to 15 minutes, served with a bowl of clear soup. The taste was good and enjoyable. However, some of the meat contained tendons and skin, which made it a bit uncomfortable to eat. The dish felt slightly heavy on the sauce, but overall it was tasty and worth trying again. Payment can be made by cash or QR.
