Upper Westchester Muslim Society

401 Clairmont Avenue, Thornwood, NY

Sunni (Traditional)

The Upper Westchester Muslim Society, Inc. was established in 1997 to serve Muslims living and working in the upper part of Westchester County, New York. The society is dedicated to serving the Muslim community, and building bridges with our neighbors of other faiths, in accordance with the Qur'an and the traditions of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). The society began with the efforts of about 35 founding members and we welcome new members. The UWMS masjid serves as a center for prayer, Islamic education, and social gatherings, as well as for religious rites and ceremonies. UWMS also cooperates and coordinates activities with other mosques and Islamic organizations in Westchester County and the New York/New Jersey metro area. The Upper Westchester Muslim Society is a not-for-profit organization and charitable donations and contributions are tax deductible.

So its friday 04/28/2017. The khateeb who looked to be Asian descent was invited or part of the community. However, the khutba(speech) that he prepared in summary was to reject the hadeeth because it was not recorded properly or as carefully as the Quran was preserved including bukhari because he also started 200 years after the prophet. And so to follow the religion and/or understand the Quran, one must use their own experiences in their own time or era they are living and use own senses to understand or interpret Quran and should not relate to what was practiced or done 1400 years ago. Spoke to the person incharge and he took no responsibility and advised me to talk to the khateeb directly.

Just came from here. Alhumdulliah the brothers here are making an effort to make this masjid larger. I can tell the community will get larger. Note: Its hard to find, don't use GPS! follow the directions on their website. Park in shoprite parking lot across the street. If you pass shoprite you went too far. Its in the same place as the thornwood storage place...just further in on the 2nd floor.
