Sunni (Traditional)

The Islamic Center of America, which comprises Masjidu Ahlis Sunnah, Madrasatu Ahlis Sunnah, Maktabatu Ahlis Sunnah, and a number of other entities, was established to and exists for the sole purpose of the worship of Allaahu ta'ala. Inherent in that purpose are all the activities necessary for the functioning of an Islamic Community, of which the masjid, Masjidu Ahlis Sunnah, is the hub.

This is a great masjid, the community is very welcoming too, they also have a school that is worth looking into if you have children, the Imam is very educated

I would like to comment to the review posted November 13, 2005. I often attend the services at this masjid. I wear a jilbab (when in Rome...) but not black, no niqab. I have never received any comment on my clothing, and have never been treated with anything but respect there.

The masjid board has done their best to give seperate but equal space to women, and this is appreciated. There is a snack store and bookstore as well, and women business owners are encouraged to bring their product there to sell. However, people who do not follow the Salafi way may feel uncomfortable or unwelcome there. Despite the attempts of the imam to prevent it, congregants will try to drive out women who are not wearing black, who are not in jilbab, or who are not wearing niqab. Some of the sisters and brothers are also intolerant of people who pray according to a madhab and have been known to physically prevent people from praying "differently." That said, I have never encountered an instance of racism or bias here. There are no ethnic cliques, and most of the people are sincere and kind.

Very large masjid with lots of facilities for a Muslim community. Islamic Center has bookstore, workout room, snack center, and equal facilities for the women that are separated from the men
