Masjid Ibad Ar-Rahman
3034 Fayetteville Street, Durham, NC
Part of the Islamic community of Jamaat Ibad Ar-Rahman for the past 20 year, Masjid Ibad Ar-Rahman is the first and only masjid in North Carolina to broadcast the adhan over loudspeakers. The Masjid is a place for Muslims to gather and prayer the obligatory 5 daily prayers and Jumu'ah on Fridays. Masjid Jamaat Ibad Ar-Rahman is open for all five daily prayers. We offer two shifts for Salaatul Jumu'ah on Fridays; the first shift is starts exactly at 12pm while the second shift starts exactly at 1pm. During Ramadan we offer Salaatul Taraweeh for 8 rakats and 3 witr.

This masjid only seems to cater to one ideology of Islam, and is not welcoming to Muslims who think beyond the Salafi mindset. They stuff the women in a crowded little corner behind a partition, I have never even seen the Imam in person. The women are also not very welcoming, they don't welcome newcomers or even smile at you. I have found a number of the talks by the Imam and others to be misogynistic, they don't realize they are preaching to women as well, and that many of us work and live respectable lives as Muslim women. He only supports the idea that women should stay at home at raise the children, this is not the kind of rhetoric that should be common in American Muslim communities. I am not comfortable attending this mosque and only recommend it for those whose perspectives jive with the Salafi method.
