Islamic Society of Gastonia

In the late 1970's, there were only about five Muslim families in Gaston County, and services such as Eid and Friday prayers were held in one family's living room. In 1981, the community purchased land to construct a mosque for the Islamic Society of Gastonia. The mosque was completed in 1995, and a part-time Islamic school began in 1997. There are now more than fifty Muslim families in Gaston County.
