314 East Main Street, Richardson, TX 75081
Afrah offers Shawarma Pita sandwiches, fresh bread, pies and our homemade gelato and baklava. Featured in the Dallas Morning News and D Magazine, Afrah offers the rich and exotic flavors of the Mediterranean in the casual comfort of our Richardson, Texas restaurant. Started as a pastry shop in February of 2002, our Mediterranean sweets became so popular that we decided to provide more of our family’s Southern Lebanese recipes to our customers, evolving into the full service restaurant we are today. A family-run restaurant, the majority of our dishes evolved from our mother’s recipes, prepared in house with Halal meats and the freshest ingredients. ★★★☆☆ Food is okay. Rather pricey. New building is nice. Posted on August 30, 2020 |

★☆☆☆☆ Used to be a fan of this place but their quality has went down significantly. Last trip their was a sheer embarrassment as I took out of towners to dinner and to my horrid surprise it wa easily the worst shawarma ever. My guess is they served leftovers from lunch. Whatever it was, it tasted stale and almost to the point of being inedible. Not returning. Posted on February 26, 2019 |

★☆☆☆☆ First off, I am one of the easiest people to please on the earth and I will explain my 1/5 which I wish I could give a 0/5.
We heard from so many people how "amazing" this place is so we had to check it out. First, the prices are ridiculous for the portion sizes. The food is beyond terrible. I ordered a chicken kabob sandwich and the chicken was so dry that I felt like I was eating rubber. The sandwich was drenched in the most terrible garlic sauce that burned my mouth severely and made my breath stink for days. The desserts were awful. I honestly don't know how they're in business with this horrible food.
Now, the service was just horrific. The waiters are in "Lala land" and have no clue what they're doing. We asked for a high chair and she forgot every time we asked her so we ended up going and getting one ourselves. And then she goes off and disappears and I find her in the kitchen dropping stuff everywhere not knowing what she's doing.
The place is just massive and not cozy at all. I felt like I was back in my high school's cafeteria with tons of noise and everyone on top of each other. Just an absolutely terrible experience!
Save your time and money and go to any other restaurant. I'm sure their food was good at one time but since they expanded into their massive cafeteria, the quality went down drastically. Posted on March 25, 2016 |

★★☆☆☆ Tried this place a few days back and while the atmosphere is pretty good I wasnt really impressed with the food quality. The prices are pretty cheap and unfortunately it shows in their food. It is very plain without much flavor. I think they could really improve their menu. Will try again to see if they will redeem themselves. Posted on August 30, 2015 |

★★★☆☆ I had been itching to try out Afrah for a while after it newly reopened in its expanded space. After all bigger is always better no? Well not always..
They have a bigger space (texas style) now which means there are more tables to manage and more food to prepare and more expectations to fulfill and it can be tough to make everyone happy.
Parking was still very difficult to find but we really like the new welcoming, open and big space they have built. Even with that they were packed wall to wall and we had to wait few minutes before being seated which shows how popular they are now.
They have not changed the menu and kept the same service. There are no surprises nor new food choices as far as I could see. So I ordered one of their popular plates for beef and kabob along with some appetizers. I was told in advance that it would take some time for food to come out owing to the amount of people they had and it did. I enjoyed the appetizers and fresh pita bread which came out faster but the main entree left something to be desired especially after the wait as the beef was dry and tough. Also some of the pickled veggies seemed to have lost their crispness and gone stale whilst the wait. Also service was OK and we didn't get any special treatment understandably so because there were hundreds of people in the dining room.
Their gelato is still as good as it was before with similar myriad choices. I would recommend their arabic gelato in a heartbeat.
All in all there is no other novelty other than change of space here and I am very iffy about going back again but I will anyways. I will not be recommending it if in a hurry to have good Mediterranean food. Also I don't know about the buffet yet but I would not be surprised to know that it doesn't come across as anything special either.
Don't get me wrong. They will still make lots of money in the long run and keep serving halal too inshallah but it's going to take a lot to get a one off special halal experience to come out of this place. Posted on August 17, 2015 |

★★★★★ GELATO-ONLY Review: I've had their food a couple of times but the focus of this review is only their ice cream/Gelato bar. It's FANTASTIC! Some of the most authentic flavors and made fresh every day. Some of my favorites are guava, strawberry, and yogurt-berry. The price is very reasonable for the quality of the stuff. Service is prompt and friendly. They are setting up a whole new place right next door and I can't wait to see it in action. I've been there three times in once day just for their ice cream. ★★★☆☆ kinda like pita inn in Chicago..it stays pretty busy but the food wasnt all that... not the best... but it was something 4 late night Posted on March 23, 2015 |

|
★★☆☆☆ The food is ok not anything special. Menu is pretty basic and boring like other Lebanese restaurant. The decort and everything is plain. Nothing really catches your attention accept the old torn and dirty chair! Will come check out their new restaurant. Hope their food will improve more and their menu will be more interesting! ★★☆☆☆ Service is great. But food? Seriously? I don't understand these reviews nor the reviews on Yelp. Have these guys had medi food before?!
What gives???!
The food was average at best. Only the bread was fresh, everything else was obviously old and tasted like the fridge especially their Taboule was most disappointing. Posted on January 1, 2015 |

★★★★☆ Very good food . But, Expensive . Posted on December 31, 2014 |

★★★★★ Even though it is a bit on the expensive side but I have been here every time I am in DFW. Their food quality and taste is top notch and that hasn't changed. Outdoor sitting area is a really wonderful feature. Posted on November 8, 2014 |

★★★★★ Hands down best Mediterranean restaurant in Dallas! Been to plenty of Mediterranean restaurants in Dallas but nothing beats their chicken kabobs. The quantity is plenty and the service is always good. Posted on August 24, 2014 |
|
|
★★★★★ One of the best places in Dallas. Never disappointed after eating here. The buffet is great. The kabobs are great. The sandwiches are great. The pies really make this place stand out, if you don't want a sandwich or plate and are in the mood for something light, pies are the way to go. A lot of the other Mediterranean restaurants in the area don't serve pies.
I've come here probably 30-40 times and have never left disappointed. Posted on July 22, 2014 |

★★★★★ Gyro and sheesh tawuk platters are best and worth the money spent. A bit busy on the weekends tough so expect some delays. Posted on June 17, 2014 |

|
★★★★★ The food is really good. I tried the Chicken shawarma and the burger. The place is really crowded, however. The gelatos are also good. Posted on April 12, 2014 |

★★★☆☆ I had the Afrah burger today. It was well prepared but not unlike any of the burgers available at other good burger joints. Service was efficient though they were very busy. I forgot to check the takeout bag before I left the store so I had to get salt from McDonalds to season the fries. Posted on April 5, 2014 |

|
★★☆☆☆ I went to Afrah a few times and have noticed the pricing was odd when the bill came
I found out recently that they are adding the gratuity in with the subtotal and then calculating tax - that is technically illegal to have your customers pay tax on gratuity. It is the businesses responsibility to pay Income Tax. Aside from that, they also lied to us about pricing when we requesting custom meals. initially they said 2.99 off per meal and turned into 2.01 off per meal. Posted on December 1, 2013 |

★★★★★ Good place. Staff were very nice. Food is so tasty. I'll go there again Posted on October 12, 2013 |

★★★★☆ They def know how to make a good burger!! The meat was medium rare and not over cooked! Afrah burger is a must if you haven't tried it. Other items on the menu are decent!! Posted on September 21, 2013 |

★★★★☆ They are experts at grilling meat! Their food is tasty and some of their menu items are creative too! Posted on August 16, 2013 |

★★☆☆☆ Not sure if halal. Dodgy location good food though. Shish Tauowk is what to order. Fishstickeater knows best!! Posted on June 8, 2013 |

★★★☆☆ I go there about once a month. If you want to enjoy Afrah you have to know what to order. Afrah Burger is Awesome, it is my common order. The gelato is great too. The pies are tasty. The rest of the menu is average or below average. Most of the plates I ordered were not that good. In general, get the burger, the pie, and the gelato and you'll be satisfied. ★☆☆☆☆ This place has horrible service and I will never go back. They have a dozen people working yet no one asks you if u need anything or caters to u. They all just stand behind the counter and talk to each other. We had get up 5 times in the middle of our meal and ask for small things that should've been provided to us without asking. We even complained to the manager and she just smiled. Food was good but service made us decide to never go back! Posted on January 28, 2013 |

|
★★☆☆☆ They said that all their menu was halal,
BUT they didn't dear to put a halal sign, therefor, I am concerning about their halal.
I won't go their again. Posted on October 15, 2012 |

|
★★★☆☆ The food is "ok". It's not the best med food I have eaten and it's certainly not the worse, but simply alright for the moment. The time I went, I had to keep asking the people who worked there for utensils, such as napkins and forks. They won't ask you, so you have to make sure to ask them. Posted on April 9, 2012 |

|
★★★★☆ Overall, the food is good. I’ve tried almost everything on their menu. Gyro, grilled chicken, chicken shish tawook, and Afrah burger are my favorites. One of my favorite middle eastern restaurant. Posted on February 10, 2012 |

★★★★★ Food was tasty. Restaurant was jam packed. Arabic food lovers will enjoy it. Service was bit delayed but no complains. Lentil soup, side orders and bread were nice Posted on January 25, 2012 |

|
★★★☆☆ Food is okay. I don't go here for the food. I mainly like their gelato and fruit shakes.
I actually prefer their appetizers over their meals. Posted on January 10, 2012 |
|
|
★☆☆☆☆ We ordered few items such as variety of kabobs as well as soups and salads. The soup was cold and way too salty. The kabobs were rubbery and salads were drenched in salad dressing. We had requested dressing on the side. The staff members were very rude. They refused to do anything about the food. We suggested to taste the food and see for themselves. The bathrooms were filthy. Prices are high, food is bad and their staff members need serious lessons in customer service. Posted on January 10, 2012 |

★★★★★ I've been living in Richardson for less than a week and already have been to Afrah several times! the rest of the recent reviews describe the food pretty well. I'll just add this... THE ABSOLUTE BEST GELATO ICE CREAM ANYWHERE!!! The strawberry, cherry, pink guava and mango are absolutely must-try. Love the place. Posted on July 14, 2011 |

★★★★★ I just love this place. Been there many times and will go again. the food is simply awesome. the service is great and the atmosphere very nice. I just love the Afrah burger as well as grilled chicken, they're heavenly. Although its a bit pricy but i dont mind giving an extra buck or two for an extra ordinary evening with great food. Awesome awesome place! Posted on June 6, 2011 |

★★★★☆ this is one of the best restaurant in this area. I went many times. whenever I get chance and visit Dallas, I go to Afrah to eat. The food is really good, and shawrma for to go as usual. The prices are okay. Don't visit in the weekend unless you call to make sure they have space for ya. The place is okay, you can sit inside or outside. Posted on April 10, 2011 |

★★★★★ very tasty and fresh food! serve the best hummus with fresh bread! all of the grill items are also great! Posted on January 23, 2010 |

★★★★★ These people make a great burger. Try the wraps also if you want something on the run. The restaurant is large and looks clean. They also have a large shaded balcony where people choose to eat. Posted on September 14, 2009 |

★☆☆☆☆ Dirty ... If you want to give an idea about this place, then this is the correct phrase. Before you eat a bite, take a look on your platter for unusual meat types, you may find what we found there ... A HUGE MOSQUITO. It was a disgusting experience. Not Recommended Posted on March 22, 2009 |

★★★☆☆ Very packed place (me and my wife went on a saturday evening to try the place). Food was OK except that the beef kabob I had wasn't good. Their pastries are good. Caution: just drink bottled water if you go there. They brought a glass with a piece of bulghur on it, the place is a little bit dirty. Won't go there again. Average middle eastern place. Posted on February 15, 2009 |

★★★★★ Great place to eat, they have a wide selection of fresh made from scratch foods. Their beef kabob is consistently the best I have had as is their fresh bread and pastries. I have eaten here many times and its always great. Friendly staff as well. Posted on October 12, 2007 |

★★★☆☆ A little overpriced but not bad at all. They have very good meat and spinach pies. Their kabab sandwhich is really good. Go during lunch from 11-3pm...they have really good deals on shawarma's and pies.
Their baklawa is not outstanding but not too bad. Their fresh ice cream is delish. They play very upbeat good music..just a good atmosphere all around. Posted on August 26, 2007 |

★★★★☆ Everytime i go to Dallas my cousins and i head over to this place to get some of the best ice cream and hummus along with sum sheesha...has to be one of the coolest places. Very clean enviornment and nice people. Posted on March 2, 2006 |

★★★★☆ unfortunately everyone skips this restaraunt and heads over to jasmines because its more 'hip', and a lot more lively. afrah is a great restaraunt, queiter, older crowd - the food is good as well. they put fries in the chicken shawarma, which is unique around here. recently they've gotten new management, and the service has improved. they also have ice-cream, and all kinds of arabic pastries/sweets. the humus was kind of dry, but decent. their afrah burger is worth trying - albeit a bit pricey (8 dollars?). also, the sheesha's/hookah's are good. Posted on January 23, 2006 |

★★★★★ Finally i have found a place where i can have very good middle eastern food and then end the dinner with some realy good home made ice cream. try water melon flavour as this might be the only place serving it. Posted on September 25, 2005 |

★★★★★ The best middle Eastern (European style) Family cafe that you can find in Dallas area. Excellent sweets, great Gelato Ice Cream (Made with real fruit). Friendly Staff.
The cake is outstanding. Gourmet European style. If you taste it once, you will taste it again and again.... Posted on July 7, 2004 |

★★★★★ Wonderful place to eat out. Excellent food and sweets. I especially love the homeade ice cream.. geleto. Best place to relax inside or outside. Sheesha outside seems most popular to all Dallas area! Posted on May 13, 2004 |

★★★★☆ nice place, a bit pricy Posted on February 4, 2004 |

★★★★★ A unique Mid-Eastern pastry shop that has the feel of a nice cafe, complete w/ outside seating. Not only can you choose from all kinds of baklava, but they also serve kunafah, bassboussa, namoura, mamoul, cookies, roasted nuts, gelato ice cream, etc. If you don't want a sweet, they also have great shawerma, kafta, tabouli, Greek salad. It's a nice place for a snack, or a real meal. I really liked the chicken shawerma-- the most flavorful I've ever had! The bassboussa was so very rich and fresh that I could hardly finish my piece. Great place and they also do catering. You can also order their pastries from their website. Posted on January 22, 2004 |
