★☆☆☆☆ The food is really great ! One star ratings for their service. Couple of times I ordered on the phone and they asked me to pickup in 30 min. On one occasion, When i visited the restaurant, they said there is no order on my name . After back and forth with that person , he found my order. On other occasion, when I visited the restaurant to pickup my order , the person said that he will go and check my order and told me that he is going to the kitchen . Instead of going to the kitchen , he joined the already going on prayer at the restaurant( I have no issue with that ) . Atleast he can ask other server in the restaurant to check my order . Anyway , I asked other server and he found my order . It was cold which means they already prepared the food but I have to wait in the restaurant 30 more min to just to find the order. Pathetic Posted on January 2, 2019 |

★★★★★ I catered a gathering at my house for about 50 people and the food was delicious. Everyone was asking where the food came from. Very delicious. Definitely a repeat. Posted on January 4, 2018 |

★★☆☆☆ The food was not good. The portion sizes were really small. The butter chicken we ordered was finished after one serving. The food was also not presented well as it came in plate like bowls and the portions were really small. We ordered Biryani rice, but after 40 mins of waiting the server came with steamed rice. When I said I did not order it, he said okay only to come back and say they dont have the biryani rice anymore. The naan was also hard as well as all the curries seemed to have the same base. ★★★☆☆ Zouq is no more the place it used to be. We had a very good experience when they started it. I hope they can improve before it closes down. Posted on November 16, 2014 |

★☆☆☆☆ i had the liberty to buy their wraps and that was probably my biggest mistake. the first time i got their beef wrap, the beef was fresh but the naan was a huge wrap of uncooked dough.. and clearly wasn't edible. the 2nd time around i tried their chicken tikka wrap. furious as i was they used i don't know how many day's old chicken tikkah left over's and stuffed it in my wrap. the wrap was extremely dry, clearly NOT FRESH and smelled. ... enough said will NEVER RETURN AGAIN! ★★★★★ Loved the Chinese food, especially the combo of Chicken Manchurian and Zauq Fried rice. Good peaceful environment and hospitable service. Will definitely go there again. Posted on May 9, 2014 |

★☆☆☆☆ My first one star review and it's not because the food was terrible (it wasn't that good either) but it's because this restaurant has the worst service I've ever seen.
They didn't have a third of the stuff available on their menu during peak dinner time, waitress was rude, other waiters ignore you if it's not their table, they only brought part of our order and told us they couldn't make the rest AFTER we had ordered and they'd brought half of it, they didn't bring water/forks/utensils till we asked and even then...., and there were other people complaining as well about their service (not that the restaurant owners seem to care).
To me it's a bit sad that places like this can get away with mediocre food/prices and terrible service just because they have a niche market and know that people will continue to go there. Well, there are plenty of other Pakistani restaurants here so why bother giving a place like this your business...it's clearly not an isolated incident as others have also complained. ★☆☆☆☆ Had an awful experience at their facility. have to wait for more than an hour and during that hour employees responses were yeah its coming in ten minutes and after an hour got informed that they forgot to send the order back so have to wait more.didnt end there instead of being sorry they were rude. we were around 15 people and whole evening were ruined. will never go again. ★★☆☆☆ I went here as I was craving halwa poori breakfast. I and my husband ordered halwa poori plate, nihari and stuffed paratha. The food was very greasy and lacked taste. There was only one server and the restaurant was quite packed. He skipped something in our order. We did not get all the items that we ordered after we specifically asked him for it (twice). The paratha was hard and overly greasy. I was really disappointed and felt nauseated after eating from there. Poor service and equally poor tasting food.
However, my review is based on what I tried from there. My husband went there a few days ago and had their lunch combo and he said it was not as bad as the breakfast/brunch we had there previously. Posted on September 12, 2013 |

★☆☆☆☆ Seems like the owner has made his money. Worst customer service ever. We were there quite early few weeks ago, yet they didn't allow us in, said the chef just left. So decided to try them out early today, too much attitude by the servers, treating us like they were providing free food and doing a favor on us. Quickly had to rush the order. Bill came while were in the middle of dinner. Food is ok, nothing close to 5 star. Would not recommend just because of their customer service. It needs to be worked on. Also the glass and plates were not clean. Poor experience overall. Posted on August 31, 2013 |

★☆☆☆☆ I used to visit this place sporadically for dinner, however, just had their dinner a couple days ago, and I believe that would have been the last time I visited due to poor poor poor food and mediocre taste!
Ordered lamb karahi, biryani rice, Hyderabadi chicken grill and lollipop chicken - everything ordered was pretty much cooked either the day before or a couple days before, as it tasted OLD!
Definitely not worth trying again! Posted on June 13, 2013 |

★☆☆☆☆ I went there on Friday Feb 15th for take out order. I was standing at the counter, one of the guys said I will be with you shortly, and I waited and waited and waited, then one of customer approach counter to pay for their order, suddenly there was a guy not in uniform though , maybe he is the owner, receiving payment. I asked is someone going to take order or not? The guy said, I am busy please wait. I said very politely that If they cannot take the order then I am leaving, and his response was ok fine leave.
What is wrong with desi business owners and their customer service?
Their food is mediocre at best and now horrible customer service, I will not go back there Posted on February 18, 2013 |

★★☆☆☆ My family and I have been to Zauq more than 20 times since it first opened. At first the food was really good. Good portions and tasty. Service was also very decent. However as the months have gone by this place has deteriorated. I used to be a huge fan of their lolipop chicken, lamb karahi, grilled meats but recently the quality has gone downhill. I particularly lost all faith and interest in this place when the waitress tried to convince me that the crispy beef was their specialty however when I ordered it, it was nothing but this awful tasting gravy and a few pieces of beef strips. I have been to sufficient hakka chinese restaurants to know what crispy beef should taste like (read the name) c-r-i-s-p-y beef not beef in awful tasting gravy. Mind you I ordered this on a very busy saturday night, so they must have thrown all of their leftover together and served us that dish. Very dissapointed with this place, yes the decor is nice but the reason we go out to eat is to enjoy good food not because of the chandeliers or wallpaper. Never returning to Zauq. ★★☆☆☆ Food was ok. Servings are not big enough for the prices they charge. A mixed grill plate is good for 1.5 people. Place is very nice tho. Staff sucks. The first time I been there, and asked to be seated in a corner close to window, the server said "sit close to the counter, it's easy to bring food their than the corner by window".
And we were left with our mouth open and then bursting into laughter. The distance between table next to counter and tables next to window is like 5 tables in between, but the dude was totally lazy.
The second time we went, they put soooo much yogurt in the chicken karahi, it was hard to eat it. We asked them to re do it... they took it back, and brought the same dish again, with more water in it lol. It was so obvious, we had to leave the dish as is (tho paid for it).
So yes, some food is good, but overall experience is not worth the price. Maybe you stumble upon someone better, but we had our tries. Posted on September 7, 2012 |

★★★☆☆ We tried the Chinese dishes at this restaurant. The quantity of chicken /meat that was a part of the gravy, rice and noodle dishes was insufficient. The taste was more "desi" than "hakka". Service was efficient, although it was a very busy nite (Jan 1). Ambience is good. Will try the desi dishes on our next visit. Posted on January 2, 2012 |

★★★★☆ Besides the service, it's a pretty place to have dinner. Their Bar BQ platter is amazing (and can eaten as the only dish) amongst 4 ppl. Lilly pop chicken Posted on November 27, 2011 |

★★☆☆☆ I have worked in the area and have had the opportunity to visit this place on many occasions for lunch and dinner. Its a hit and miss with everything here, you cant experiment with some of there fusion dishes at all. They fill there gravy dishes with bones and only a few pieces of meat. ok if your in a hurry but if you have a choice move on. Posted on October 2, 2011 |

★☆☆☆☆ We had our last Iftari and dinner here in Zauq; tell you the truth this was my 2nd and last time here; I will not be returning here again. this time ordered Karahi, Lollypop chicken, a couple of chinese items.
Poor service and below average quality of food. Posted on September 23, 2011 |

Well.. Good Luncheon and Dining Atmos. Decent Food, Slightly small Portions but will do just fine if you like to eat Healthy nominal portions. Food quality is quite decent for the price... The orders however can take a bit too long at times but then again I have mostly visited them during rush hours (lunch time on Fridays)
I would recommend visiting the place atleast once. Posted on September 5, 2011 |

NR Excellent place to eat. Ive been to quite a few resteraunts and this one by far in my opinion the best. Their owner bilal siddiqui is a very nice person and has a very big heart. He also owns silverspoon in scarbrough and mississauga. They gave free iftaar (chola, kajoor, rovza), i ask allah to bless the owners for this ameen. Clean atmosphere, great music, great food. Service was reasonable. Been there more than once. If they are busy service is lousy (understandable). waiters are confident, young and energetic, they can hold a conversation and are quite funny. As for the food i highly recomend: all their biryanis, nihari, bbq platter, lollipop chicken, manchurian chicken, excellent garlica and regular naans. Ive spent quite alot in this place because i keep coming back ( i dont regret it either).
For those who went once and didnt like it i recomend you go again, maybe sometime when it isnt busy like 2pm or 3pm.
I dont understand what makes pakistani food authentic, i mean is it suppose to have some brown guy's chest hair in it? Posted on September 4, 2011 |

★★☆☆☆ they did spend some bucks but definately there food quality has gone down i got burnt nans and burnt kebabs it use to be tasty but all i can say is please dont let the money go waisted and dont lose your regular customers i wish they start focusing again Posted on July 15, 2011 |

★★☆☆☆ Today on July 12 we have been to Zauq restaurant with a 2 yr old toddler and a 5 yr old kid. When we entered there was a sign saying "Wait to be seated". I looked around there were two servers busy doing their jobs. I said to my husband kids are running lets get them seated. Because of weekday more then half of the resaturant was empty .We got ourselves seated. Suddenly the waitress Hina appeared not with the Menu but with a lecture. 'You should have waited rather then getting seated. The sign clearly says it. It is my job to tell you this table could be reserved.' Excuse me..where is the reserved card? The owner along with HINA should visit Moxies or any other fine dinning restaurant n see Hostess and waitress are 2 different jobs..politeness is compulsory in both these...Hina ( waitress) was trying to pretend to be a hostess whereas a hostess should be right at door welcoming with smile and directing to tables. waitress should be polite bringing the menu and serving food (I found Hina to be very rude).
Food was good :) Posted on July 13, 2011 |

★★★☆☆ Very nice place no doubt! I wish they could make their food better as well. I recommend go their with your friends and coworkers specially with those who dont know the taste ;).
If you are looking for a good Authentic Food. Zauq is not a restaurant for you.

★★★★★ Hi guys,
I just wanted to share my experience at Zauq with the Urbanspoon community. I had the chance to try the restaurant for the time this past monday, a friend of ours is a regular customer and is always talking about this place so we decided to go there and check it out for ourselves!
When I came home to check the reviews on this place I was a little surprised that there were some mixed reviews so I wanted to add my input and make sure that there's a honest comment added on here
We arrived at the restaurant in the early evening around 6 pm, right away we were greeted by a gentlemen and seated. He then came back with the menues and suggested some of the specialties accoirding to the number of people. We ordered a BBQ platter, 1 chicken karachi, 1 Nihari, 1 Jumbo wings (which were really JUMBO) and some Naans (wish they had parathas!). All the food arrived in about 15 mins or latter since it was BBQ(understandable). We started on the BBQ right away because it only taste good when its hot and then worked our way on to the curries and wings....
After about 20 minutes of chowing down all the mouth watering food we decided that we need to seal the deal with some dessert lol so we orderd some halwa and mango delight which both finished us off. By the way they serve Pakola, I haven't had that drink since I was a kid.
So in conclusion I would rate this place as
Service: 9/10
Food: 9/10 cus no ones perfect
Environment: 9.5/10 for a pakistani restaurant
Great place to take co-workers and family Posted on April 27, 2011 |

★★★★★ food is good , tried kheer, was awesome.
the mixed grill is cool item in menu, bbq is great, the tikka masala is not good at all, atmosphere and waiters are good.

★★★★★ I have been to this restaurant enough times and have to say they never disappoint me! Their lollipop chicken is amazing and the bbq platter is genius! Its a combination of the most delicious tikkas and kebabs i have tasted in toronto. Their karahi and nihari are also mouthwatering. I take my family and friends all the time because of the cleanliness and the look itself (which is absolutely gorgeous) of the restaurant. It is difficult to find a nice clean pakistani restaurant which serves promising food! I will definitely be returning very soon Posted on March 2, 2011 |

★★★★★ This week was the first time I tried Zauq and I would say I was sitively surprised! The place is really nicely done unlike other desi restaurants, the ambiance is great, the place is clean (clean bathrooms as well!) the service could be better but since it was pretty busy I understand they did their best, but they did not mess up any orders or not greet us on time so I would rate service 3 out of 5. The food however was excellent!!! We tried the bar b q platter and paya and both were amazing, the quantity and quality was both great. The bar b q platter is enough to feed 3-4 people and is around 22 dollars, contains a variety of diffent bar b q dishes the best one was reshmi kabab!
All in all a great experience : food, service and premises all better than usual desi restaurants. Posted on February 6, 2011 |

★★☆☆☆ Went to the restaurant about a month back and was very disappointed. I do not know how it can exceed anyone's expectations when people probably do not even know what's the difference between Indian/Pakistani and Chinese food. Worst ever Chinese food I've tasted!
It does not matter whether the servers are young or old, it's the fact that they should know their menu and most of all provide good customer service. The waiters/waitresses there were talking to each other across the room about someone's boyfriend and then this other waitress was on the phone while cleaning the tables. We had to ask someone to bring us some water... when we were there for 15 minutes before someone could greet us even! Then we had to get their attention to bring us the bill after we were done. A good server knows how to treat his/her customers well. The wait staff seriously need a lesson on waiting on a customer!
We ordered the shrimp pakora and it was tasteless.. made completely wrong from the original shrimp pakora. Of course, the waiter din't even know which shrimp it was when we asked to double check the order. Moreover the noodles and chicken where no taste at all...anyone could make better Chinese at home. Went there with some expectations but was really disappointed. I reluctantly left tips too. Posted on February 4, 2011 |

★★★★★ I have been to many Pakistani restaurants and this one so far has exceeded my expectations. Me and my guy friends went here, a group of about 9 went here for dinner. We had the bbq platter (highly recommended), hydrabadi tikka, lamb karahi, nihari and 3 garlic naan. The food was very good, especially the nihari. The BBQ platter had 7 BBQ items and it was around 20 dollars.
Servers were young and energetic as opposed to the usual old aunties. I don't know what the guys below me were saying but i would take a young energetic crew over old immigrants any day.
Overall it was a terrific experience, good setting, good food, good price and great service.
Highly recommended if your looking for a good dine in experience Posted on January 22, 2011 |

★★★★★ I went to Zauq today with a couple of friends of mine for lunch after being referred by a colleague at work. I had no idea this place was so close to our work and regret that I didn't find it earlier.
We were recommended by the server to try their lunch BBQ plates and their lunch combo meals. Both of which were great. I had the chicken tikka meal which came with a healthy serving of chicken tikka boneless pieces (good enough for 2 people), rice, salad and chutney for only $7.99!!
My colleagues tried the lunch specials, I believe you get to pick from 3 categories to creat a meal of your own, i think one of them had the lollipop chicken, fried rice and chilli chicken and the other person had the samosa, naan and butter chicken. Both the plates came packed.
I would rate the ambiance 5/5
food 5/5
service 4.5/5
overall a great place
I will definitely suggest you try this hidden gem in Mississauga Posted on January 20, 2011 |

★☆☆☆☆ Like majority of the reviewers said: food is terrible, but excellent ambiance. Most of the staff were high school kids who really didn`t know their dishes that well.
Hopefully the owners read these posts and start making some changes. Posted on December 25, 2010 |

★★☆☆☆ Excellent interior decor, warm yet casual atmosphere.
Food...very sad and does match the setting.
The Tandoori was definitely reheated. There were no fresh burns on the chicken or sizzling feel to it. It was smooth and almost a uniform reddish color, definitely not fresh.
The puri's were flat and absolutely soaked in oil. Must have been fried in cold oil in a hurry as they were not fully cooked either.
Also tried their paya. It tasted alright if you could actually reach the gravy, as the top 1/4 inch of the bowl was covered in oil. Terrible.
On a positive note, however, the staff is friendly and seem sincere. The prices, for what you're getting, are ridiculously high and cannot compete with the multiple similar restaurants. Posted on December 8, 2010 |

★☆☆☆☆ Awful food - I will not be returning: soup was oily, kabobs tasted like there was some household cleaning product in them, butter chicken was too sweet, biryani was dry and not seasoned, BBQ was burnt, naans were dry, and I can go on and on. I'll be surprised if this place lasts for another 3 months. Posted on November 17, 2010 |

NR Food quality was below standard i.e. burnt Chicken Karahi and reheated BBQ. Service was horrible: wrong order, slow. Decor is nice but staff seem like untrained students. Went on Tuesday, Nov. 16. Worst dining experience yet in Canada over 9 years. They screwed up multiple orders that night as respective customers were complaining. Will never be going back. They maybe well intentioned but they don't know how to run a proper restaurant. Epic Fail. Posted on November 17, 2010 |

★★★☆☆ I dont know about being the best pakistani restaurant in Mississauga or Toronto as the review below... Its a typical indian/paki restaurant that also serves hakka food which was alright, big portions for the price, the service was good and the place is very nicely decorated. The food on the other hand was average, its like eating at any other indian/paki restaurant. Its worth a try if only you're in the area. Posted on November 7, 2010 |

★☆☆☆☆ I agree with @Halalify service was pathetic and they lied about the quantity of food and taste was also not good. Posted on July 31, 2010 |

★★☆☆☆ Zauq restaurant offers Indian and Chinese dishes. I went shortly after they opened, and to be honest was quite disappointed.
Pros: The food was good (of average taste), the layout of the restaurant is pretty good. The staff was polite and genuine.
Cons: We were twice brought dirty plates and cutlery. That is a total turn off. Completely. Liquid spills on the floor. Inexperienced staff (adolescent family members) - not experienced waiters. Posted on July 17, 2010 |

★★★★★ My experience at zauq was undoubtably one of the best experiences I have ever had at a Pakistani cuisine. The service was prompt and accurate. All the servers were young and energetic which gave the restaurant a great vibe. The place itself could compete with any of its top of the line competitors. The food matched my expectations as I had high hopes for it, because it was recommended by many of my friends. I tried the lollipop chicken which is by far the best dish on their menu. The BBQ platter looks and tastes delicious. Their garlic naan was amazing. DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED!
Zauq is a must visit if you want to enjoy an exquisite meal and a great ambiance with your friends or family. Posted on July 8, 2010 |

★★★★★ We had a reservation here for 35 people @ $16 per head which included appetizers and a full course meal with desert and drinks all buffet style served on the table. All i have to say that our guest left happy. The food was made the way we asked them and the service was prompt. Posted on July 7, 2010 |

★★☆☆☆ Went here with my parents on a Thursday.
We ordered (this'll probably make me very easy to identify to the owners, but oh well):
1 order of chicken pakora (8 pcs) (appetizer)
1 order of reshmi kabab (2 pcs)
1 order chili beef (hakka)
1 order of chicken biryani
1 order of chicken tikka (8 pcs)
2 naans
The reshmi kabab did not taste good at all, but were cooked well and presented well (not recommended)
The chili beef did not taste at all like what I was expecting. It tasted more like a medley of tomato paste and sweet and sour beef (not recommended)
The chicken biryani was average at best (opinion neutral)
The chicken tikka was quite good (recommended)
The naans were quite dry, but not bad otherwise (not recommended)
The service was commendable and relatively quick and the staff were all courteous.
The place itself is very nicely decorated and the seating set-up is optimized quite well.
The ambience was quite good as well. They had indian music playing at a relatively low level, which I imagine would be appreciated by those who like indian music (I don't, but I still didn't mind it).
About the staff. I noticed that most of them were adolescents (actually all were), but maybe this was just the case for the time that we went (~5-7PM). I understand the demeanor of people that age to let loose and be "playful" (for lack of a better word), but their "conversation", laughter and whatever else they were doing at the counter was very loud and did not at all suit the "professional" impression that I imagine the owners of the place are trying to convey with the ambience and decor of the place. This left me with a very bad impression of the place.
Overall:
Food: 1/5
Service/Staff: 4/5
Ambience/Decor: 4/5
Overall Impression: 2/5 (I'm being nice) Posted on July 2, 2010 |
