★★★★★ i am a big fan of pink garlic. the south asian food is typical rusholme fayre, but the halal chinese food is the attraction for me. the crispy duck is usually just crispy without being completely carbonised - just right in my mind.
there are two options - the buffet or the menu. the buffet is good value for money, and there are plenty of dishes so all different tastes, from mild to very spicy, can be accomodated. the buffet includes desserts - nothing special but acceptable. the menu offers a full range of chinese and indian food. the menu is more expensive but worthwhile if you have a favorite dish that isnt included in the buffet.
i know that some people feel that they are above eating at pink garlic, but i cant say that ive ever been disappointed with the food, take out or eat in. the only down side is that the temperature can get a bit cold in the winter time.
i have been to 'halal' chinese places which also have pork on the menu and not wanted to eat anything at all. i feel reassured that pink garlic is completely halal and alcohol free, and the chinese food tastes really good. Posted on March 24, 2010 |

★★★☆☆ What attracted us to Pink Garlic was its great front and signage and the fact that it was advertised (rightfully) as an "alcohol free zone". The inside of the restaurant is fantastic - great decor and was quite busy mid way through our meal (around 8pm on a Saturday in June). The staff were friendly, however the service itself was pretty average. The cutlery, plates and glasses had marks on them, glasses were all of different shapes and sizes and we had to ask for a napkin since there were none provided. The food took over 40 minutes to arrive (and it was quite empty when we ordered), and despite asking for it all together, starters and mains arrived 15 minutes apart. The food itself was mixed. The starters (Crab and Sweetcorn Soup and Lamb Tikka) were excellent, but from the mains the Sweet and Sour Duck was unfortunately the only thing of taste. The Beef with Mushrooms was totally bland, and the noodles were dry. The egg fried rice was okay. For the price we were paying (£30 for 2 persons), Pink Garlic turned out to be a very average experience. Posted on June 22, 2008 |

★★★★☆ A rare yet pleasant treat to be able to enjoy Halal Chinese food. The Chinese & Indian menus are extensive and authentic. Prebook advised. Takeaway too. Posted on January 26, 2007 |
