Tempura means authentic Pakistani food with a Japanese fusion, marinated and cooked with the best spices Pakistan has to offer, right here in Houston. In 2009, with God's help, I opened our first location in the north side of Houston with a commitment to use the same passion and recipes of my mother. Since then, we have grown to three locations and have formed semi-exclusive partnerships with hotels such as the JW Marriot, Hilton Americas, and others for catering. At Tempura, I promise, you will taste the same spices, smell the same aromas, and feel the same tingle as I did with my mother's cooking, and her mother before her. At Tempura, you'll taste Pakistani tradition! Added on January 18, 2010 and last updated 6 years ago

★★★★★ One of the best Halal buffet’s in the US. Visiting Houston from California so found them through Zabiha website and liked the ratings.
Not only was the food delicious, it was fresh and hot too unlike most buffets. Really impressed and shall return on my next visit this side. Posted on August 18, 2019 |

★★★★★ Tempura grill is located about 5 mins drive from the Pakistan consulate office in Houston. Restaurant was clean, and had courteous staff. We visited it during their lunch hour and tried the buffet. Food was not only delicious with a great variety of options, you could tell its fresh. fresh naans were served right at your table. Their curries had choices of chicken, mutton, Haleem, spinach paneer, sweet and sour chicken etc. they had biryani -and plain rice. Their beef kebabs were seasoned really well, hence they contained their real flavors and moisture. By far their best. So was the chicken tikka. Really impressed by their palate, turn-over and competitive pricing. A Definite have on your visit to Houston. Highly recommended. Posted on April 28, 2016 |

★★★★★ I am a regular here and just love their food. The overall ambience of the restaurant has improved dramatically after their renovation. One dish that is usually missing from the buffet and not talked about as much is their Mutton Kunna. This item is the real deal! I had it at a friend's wedding where the food was catered from here and discovered yet another gem besides their already popular chicken malai boti and dry chicken chili. One other noteworthy mention- the little paan kiosk tucked in a corner of the restaurant has some really authentic tasting paans. I highly recommend this restaurant! Posted on April 26, 2014 |

★★★★★ Went here for dinner with a party of around 12-13 people. The ambiance of this place is quite nice and clean / above average. We had their buffet, which was good. It was a weekend and they had a birthday part going on in the hall next door, so all items were fresh. We also ordered malai boti from their menu as it was recommended by my friends, indeed it was excellent. All of the food items seemed fresh and were quite good. Another + is they have a place in the corner where they make fresh pan for a $1. A must Try...the best PAN that i have had in Amreeka so far. Posted on January 27, 2014 |

★★★★★ We went for dinner with other guests. Had the buffet, it was good. The only chinese items I saw were the noodles, chicken manchurian, and spring rolls. We also tried the Lahori machli, which was okay, and much heard about malai boti, indeed it was excellent. I saw chicken club sandwich on the menu too. Will try next time perhaps...I just wish it was't so far from where I live! Posted on January 4, 2013 |

★★★★★ Salam. I usually do not write reviews about places to eat - but credit is due here.
It is Ramadan and we decided to try out the Tempura dinner/iftaar buffet on a Wednesday night. A friend had Tempura food at a recent wedding and said it was 'really good food'.
The place appeared clean for a desi establishment with booth and table seating. The buffet had a large variety of food (but not the much talked about malai chicken) from haleem to tandoori chicken. Ceramic plates in a dispenser and real silverware were at the start of the buffet. Drinks included rooh-afza, fountain soft drinks, and chai.
The party hall next door had an iftaar party going on, but at maghrib time all the restaurant side people were invited by the gentleman behind the counter to join the jamaat - plenty of room for both men and women to offer prayers - in true spirit of the holy month.
We ordered a malai chicken at the counter in addition to the buffet - it was really fantastic. The buffet food was quite good with a fair amount of spices/chili for one who does not eat too much spicy food. Each food item actually had taste and was not loaded up with chaat masala. We have been to all the usual food places around the city (being here since the 1970s) from the Kohinoor days to present - mostly with subpar buffet/a la carte experiences (either old dried out foods or just full of heartburn inducing chillies), but the Tempura buffet will not disappoint most desi's (unless you enjoy extreme chili levels and severe after effects). The wait staff kept an eye on unused plates on our table and removed them promptly as we got up to get more food.
The Loop / Sugar / Hilcroft - dwellers are missing out.
By the way, the party tray prices were also very reasonable - we ordered a few for an upcoming home iftaar dinner. Posted on August 9, 2012 |

★★★★★ I have come here for their dinner buffet several times. Food is always very tasty, and lots and lots of variety in their buffet. Food is always hot. Love the soups, biryani, chicken tikka, saag paneer. All of it is great really, and the kheer is delicious too.
I go there from Sugarland, and it is worth the 45 minute commute without a doubt! Posted on December 13, 2010 |

★★★★☆ The owners of Tempura BBQ Grill took on a big challenge when they decided to set shop at the location of the former Shahnahi North.
Its predecessor was famous for two things, slow service and old food.
With the stigma that surrounded this establishment it is a miracle what these new owners have done with the place.
But 'new' they are not. This is the sister location of a running eaterie from Pakistan. The owner himself has relocated here with his new venture.
What has been brought to North West Houston is a place where you can finally go to eat Pakistani cuisine that is fresh and flavorful. Add to that some Japanese inspired dishes, and you have a recipe for success.
Subtle remodeling has lead to a more open dining room area that fully utilizes the premises. Added is a buffet that is never exactly the same two days in a row.
Malai boti rolls in parata are a must have whenever you are in houston. If a sandwhich is your fix try the Karachi chicken sandwhich.
Rice dishes are always phenomenal, but the Chili Chicken is to die for. There is really something for everyone, and not a single bad dish on the menu.
The restaurant never seems empty at dinner time as so many witnessed with the old restaurant. Everyone and everything at this establishment is excellent. Posted on October 5, 2010 |

★★★★★ We arranged a birthday party here after cancelling the previously booked party at mezban and knowing that how mezban went down in the quality of their food and service both after gettin a lil name of their restaurant.
I think that was the best thing we did cancelling party at mezban and loosing the deposit money and trying Tempura when some one told us abt their great service the party really turned out better thn our expectations and the owner(Asrar) along wid his wife and their small dedicated tempura's team put every effort to make the party great and guess wat they did succeed every one just couldnt stop talking how great the food was and their unique recipes really turned out great i have a lot to say but i wouldn't stop if i start doin it usually i dont really waste my time doin all this but coz i saw them puttin all the effort and also to wake houstonians up and encourage these kind of new restaurant rather thn goin to those same beaten up shanai, mezban and royal i'd tell u just in simple words this restaurant is worth trying out plz doo tell them that u heard abt taimur khans party just to encourage thm thnxxx Posted on May 5, 2010 |

★★★★★ I agree with klzafs 100% on the positive comments, The food is excellent, I been there 3 times and the diverse crowd that eats there, you will see Indians, Pakistanis, Americans, Asians, Africans and some Hispanics too. The Sizzling BBQ Platter with 2 Chicken Tikka Pieces, Malai Boti and Seekh Kebab with an added Tawa Paratha is the Best, I order it for my kids to share and The Kheer is "THE BEST", it made with Real Cream. A much needed addition to North Houston Zabiha Halal Food Joints. Keep up the good food quality. Asalaam Alaikom. Posted on February 23, 2010 |

★★★★★ All I can say is that I hope this place was in the South side, like near Sugar Land, and this place would have been packed. Don't be alarmed by the name Tempura... all I can say anything I have had is totally bind blowing awesome. So far this are my recommendations. 1. Chicken Malai Boti with Aloo Bookhra Chutney... to die for I tell ya. 2. Korma - it tastes like pakistani shadi korma 3. Chili Chicken... this is an asian this, the chicken is a little sour but it comes with rice and it is totally awesome. There are so many things... you can tell in none of their food they use Shan or Lazeeza or any type of store bought masala like all the other restaurants. All of these masala have this taste that you can easily identify. They use their own made masala's and they only use Zabihah Halal Meat. They even showed me the reciept, because coincedently meat came that day and he was putting it in his system, for I guess accounting purposes. Well you guys, gotta make your trip to Tempura Restaurant and try my recommendations. You will not be sorry! Thats all for now. Salaam! Posted on February 14, 2010 |
