★★★★☆ Meat lovers paradise. Kabobs galore plus some American fare like chicken nuggets and burgers. We ate ourselves sleepy. Would happily return. Posted on June 20, 2022 |

★★★★★ Went few times and for sure go again, one of the best afghan food, rice and BBQ chicken is my favorite. Ambiance is above average, on street parking.
seems like they stay busy most of the time but unfortunately accept CASH only. Posted on August 21, 2014 |

★★☆☆☆ The quality of food has gone down compare to previous years. Used to go to this place a lot but not any more. Posted on July 30, 2014 |
★★★☆☆ I have been going here for a couple of years and have realized that their quality has suffered in last one year. The prices are reasonable but the service is very poor. The food is average. I think there are better Afghan places to eat within 5 miles of this place Posted on May 3, 2014 |

★★★★★ Went there last night with friends & family - for the price, by far the best quality Afghani food for the price. To get the same food anywhere else you would wind up paying double. Awesome for take out / catering, great portions, fast service, yummy traditional white / spicy sauces and large menu variety. Large seating area - to give you an idea, the entire restaurant was packed and we had a party of 18 and were accommodated. The only 2 gripes I have is lack of parking and they do not accept credit cards. Overall, I would highly recommend Bakhtar - no other Afghani place comes close for the price (not even the copy cats on Main street). Posted on February 17, 2014 |

★★★★★ Went there last night. Great place, the food was awesome and the service was great. Prices were not expensive either. Would go there again! Posted on November 6, 2013 |
★★★☆☆ The prices are cheaper than any other Afghani place - you can pay 7.59 (including tax) for a plate with rice, two types of skewers of chicken and salad. At any other place, something like that would cost at least 10-12 bucks. The food is just ok. Good place for take out. The little stick of Afghani naan they put in each plate is a nice addition. ★☆☆☆☆ Enjoyed the food here but then had a bad experience. Came in late one night and were told we cannot sit and eat. Meanwhile, people were sitting in and eating, and some arrive after us and were being served. They did us dirty. They also employ servers that are not respectful in my experience. Food was good but the service subpar. Posted on May 12, 2013 |

★★★★☆ Great food at a great price. However, service is slow and they are cheap on things like paper plates. Posted on March 30, 2013 |

★★★★★ Have been going there since they opened. Used to live in the area and I miss it. Every time I am in the area I stop to get some food. Still very good. Posted on November 11, 2012 |

★★★★★ Love love love their lamb!! Posted on October 1, 2012 |

★★★★★ Positive: Best Chicken and Beef Kofta Kababs I’ve ever had at a reasonable price.
Negative: Casual seating and environ. Can become very busy on weekend nights.
Overall: If you want to try the most excellent Afghani food, hands down, you have to eat here.
Revisit: YES! I already visit this place every time I am in the area. Posted on July 28, 2012 |

★★★★★ My favorite afghan food spot hands down. For someone like me who likes to eat a lot, the portions are amazing. Posted on June 16, 2012 |

★★★★☆ Came here with the family. The location was large and seating was adequate. The lamb, beef and chicken kabobs were really tender. White sauce was really good too!!
We ordered comp 2 and 12. Prices are very reasonable. Posted on April 30, 2011 |

★★★★★ One of the best afghani places in the city for a decent price. Not known for it's service but who cares when the food is so good? Recommended! Posted on April 10, 2011 |

NR This place was good until they moved into a larger building next door. Now service/food are not as good and prices steeper. Posted on December 21, 2010 |

★☆☆☆☆ The service is horrible. I went to get lunch with a friend and we placed an order; two other parties of four each came in 10 and 15 min later and they got all of their food before we did. Worse yet when I got my food my friend had to wait another 15 min to get his food, when we complained the waitress showed a lot of attitude. Telling us that we had to tell her that we wanted our food brought together. When I asked her why the other parties received their food first even though they came after us she had no answer. My friend decided to pack up his food and take it home as I was just about warping up. It bothers me that the staff is so incompetent, their was only 'three parties' (including my party) in the restaurant at the time. Also I have been going there for years and I have experienced this kind of poor service before but i never felt compiled to complain until today. It was totally ridiculous. ★★★★★ Family loves this place.. Foods decent.. Great price.. They just need to hire more staff because on a busy night there's about 50 people inside being served by 2 or 3 girls.. Food comes on time but no one to serve I guess.. Oh and CAUTION DO NOT TURN THE WHITE SAUCE BOTTLE UPSIDE DOWN TO POUR! The top will come off and the sauce will drop all over your food and the table your pants the floor your shoes.. I've seen it happen to many people and myself :-) Posted on September 26, 2010 |

★★★★☆ Their lamb Tikka are the best.... They are moist and tasty... Must try... Posted on August 21, 2010 |

★★☆☆☆ This is a very cheap place to eat and gives very generous portions. Too much rice which is nice. The food is great, try the chicken tikka and the lamb chops. The firni is very tasty.
Cleanliness can be an issue, and I find myself cringing at how dirty the sauce bottles tend to be. Plus the service is pretty bad, last time I went I had to wait almost 30 minutes for my food and when it came out, the meat was cold, the rice on the top was warm but in the middle and bottom was freezing. Their excuse was that it was busy, however, my food came at the same time as the another table's and those people had only come in 10 minutes before. Busy, I don't think so. Bad service, INDEED. Perhaps the owner should try hiring more than two waitresses to work on these "busy" weeknights when the restaurant is packed with about 10 people.
Definitely downgrading my opinion of this place and the ownership. Posted on August 3, 2010 |

★★☆☆☆ Good food. Fast food. Horrible service.
Kababs are a hit or miss and the chicken pieces can big or small, so u never know what ur gonna get. Posted on June 12, 2010 |

★★★★☆ Pros:
1. For the quantity and price for Afghani food... You can't beat this restaurant in Queens.
Cons:
1. Not exactly a dine-in restaurant. Very small compared to other Afghani restaurants. Don't expect to go in with a family and feel cozy.
Overall, the meat is above average for an Afghani restaurant. And for the price you pay for the amount you get, it's really great. 4 stars. Posted on May 22, 2010 |

★★★★★ Ooooooooh the food is so good, you find yourself craving it constantly! Service is quick and helpful. Not the fanciest of places, but still nice enough to sit and eat with the family. Gets crowded on holidays (like mother's day and father's day) though. Posted on December 13, 2009 |

★★★★★ I find this place on Zabihah and found this place really good. The food is great and prices are reasonable. Posted on April 19, 2008 |

★★★★☆ Great deal for the money. The new restaurant is spacious, clean and the staff is friendly. The food is very good, although at times can be spicier than expected. The menu is somewhat limited because of the heavy emphasis on kebab and rice, however there are other items available, and new things being added all the time such as firni, desserts and Afghan green tea. You can also make up your own combinations if you dont see exactly what you want on the menu. You can also pray in the back facing the front of the restaurant if you like. Worth the trip! ★★★★★ i like this restaurant bcos its convenient to get the bombay theathre and when u come out of the movie, bakhter is right across. They're food is good too and the kulfi was awesome. Posted on February 2, 2008 |
★★★★☆ I had take out, the kebabs were great, they gave me too much rice, which I can't complain about. Posted on January 6, 2008 |
★★★★★ Excellent food combined with excellent prices!!! They actually just moved a few stores down and opened up a bigger place. Now you can bring the entire family and eat their delicious food in a much better setting. Posted on September 25, 2007 |
★★★★★ Just two words are necessary to describe this place: Simply awesome. The only drawback I can think of is the lack of seating... it's mainly a take out place with 4 or 5 tables for eating in. If you come around a movie show time for the Bollywood theater across the street you might not have any room to eat in. Posted on May 25, 2007 |
★★★★★ Quickly becoming the fastest served...worth your money afghani food..make that halal food. $11 for a combo with chicken, kebab, and chop steak pieces...and they give u like 3x's the rice compared to a kabul restaurant. Posted on January 21, 2007 |

★★★★★ the food here is delicious, very flavorful. and for the price its unbelievable. even regardless of the price it is still the best afghan food in queens, hands down. i love the chicken tikka and the beef kofta combo- #22 Posted on December 21, 2006 |
★★★★★ Great food, but some of the items are a little pricey. Posted on December 8, 2006 |
★★★★☆ The kebabs here are excellent especially the beef tikka. The meat is tender and marinated to perfection. The rice and white sauce are pretty good. The price is very low, especially for the portion you receive. It's better for taking out than eating in. Call ahead if you can because it takes a while. Friendly service. Posted on October 11, 2006 |

★★★★★ Good food at a great price for afghan food. Just call them up and get it to go because the place is kind of small. Cant go wrong with #22 - beef kofta chicken tikka Posted on September 27, 2006 |
★★★★★ Really good food at an exceptional price. For $7.00 you can get a skewer of chicken and kufta kebab with rice. Cant beat that price any where in New York. Place is a little ghetto, so its best to call in and pick up the food for take out. Posted on September 21, 2006 |
★★★★☆ Excellent food. Seekh kabab is much better than choopan. The portion of the food served is definitely worth the price. Buy take-out & you'll even get greater quantity. Posted on September 8, 2006 |
★★★★☆ I used to eat at Ali Babas for Afghan, my friend recommended Bakhtar's. The chicken and brown rice is ok, the white sauce DEFINATELY does not compare to Ali Baba's. But the chicken and beef kabab is realllllly good, the best i've ever tasted Posted on May 5, 2006 |

★★★★★ the best ghetto afghan and it is halal - service is nice Posted on April 24, 2006 |
