The staff of this restaurant has verbally confirmed halal status. From the management: 'All of our meats are Halal'. Supplier is Restaurant Depot, which carries machine slaughtered products.
Reza's offers you Persian, Middle-Eastern, and Mediterranean Cuisine for vegetarians or meat lovers. Most dishes are prepared on an open fire. Private function rooms available, serving from 25 to 500 people. Subway/El: Red Line to Grand.

Food is great especially their buffet at lunch is really nice. The do add auto tip in their buffet invoice which is kind of surprising. Last time I had it taken off from the waiter as tip is customer choice and we were only 3 people.
Well getting there and you see yourself inside a "BAR" that fair enough feeling that you would feel comfortable with their "Halal Claim". Be informed that so many restaurant especially persian and christian middle eastern restaurant always claim that it is Halal and they refer to Fatwa that says " just said Bismillah and it would be Halal " I don't recommend this place to anybody. it is NOT HALAL in my opinion what ever they claim. it doesn't even reserve a star.
Was nice buffet
Have had the lunch buffer. Good food, only ate vegetarian items.
Halal/Zabihah refers to meat from animals slaughtered in accordance to Islamic law. Islamic law also forbiddens alcohol, so why would anyone believe "verbal" assurance of meat being halal from a place that sells alcohol?
Asked the owner and confirmed that not all items are halal . Been there twice.
Just double checked, their meat is from Restauran Depot and machine slaughtered. There's no guarantee that the tasmiyah is recited with every cut. Feel free to check with the management.
From the mixed reviews I read on Zabihah, I decided to call and confirm myself...so the guy said everything on the menu is "ZABIHAH HALAL" except for quail....although i only asked if it is Halal or not but he said its "zabihah halal" so I think I can go there without any doubts. I went there for a weekday Lunch buffet and it was just 9.95. I can safely say that it was the best lunch i have had in Chicago. Totally worth every minute and penny i spent! Great Food! They also offer lunch buffet on weekends (although more expensive) and dinner buffet on Sunday. The buffet included chicken, beef and lamb KOUBIDEH, chicken breast KOUBIDEH, beef nihari, chicken stew, veggie biryani and chicken biryani, white and dill rice, falafel, two soups, ceaser salad, pita breads, hummus, mashed potatoes etc and a very tasty sweet dish of which i don`t remember the name. All KOUBIDEH were done to perfection, specially the beef KOUBIDEH which i could not resist...so tender and tasty....the lamb and chicken items were also great...the only thing not good enough was nihari and i think may be it was made the persian way, but it was not too bad either. Hummus and falafel were great. The ambiance was great...This is the first time I saw a true upscale restaurant serving Halal food. The interior is the traditional wooden style and very calm hospitable environment! Overall a great experience and I would recommend every one to try their lunch buffet...you just can not go wrong.
the place has a nice little ambiance. the rice is wonderful and the chicken soltani is just mouth watering!
They never dissapoint..the buffet is excellent! i looove the kabobs ESPECIALLY THE KOUBIDEH KABOB...YUMMY!
Went for dinner and did not enjoy it. Servers confirmed that it was Zabiha. Appetizers were ok and soup was not hot. Food was also lukewarm and despite our request for the meat to be well done it was medium rare. Probably will not go again
Staff told us everything is zabihah halal and I took their word for it. The food is very good. especially the chicken kabob.
I had the pleasure of eating here in a relatively large group. There were 9 of us. We had pretty good service and the server came out with dates once he realised we were fasting. That was nice for them being so busy. The food was very good. Not the best persian I have had as it was somewhat dry but it was still on the good side. The chicken in mushroom sauce was excellent. Strongly recommend the vegetarian sampler for appetizer. The ambiance makes up for where the food lacks. Overall I thought thos place was great and will go again
The food is excellent, and I would recommend the brunch buffet on the weekends. The staff says it's halal, so I would take their word on it. It does really bother me that serve alcohol. However, since I eat at other places with co-workers that serve alcohol (although I never drink myself), I think it would be wrong for me to discriminate against them. I will continue eating here and leave the judgement to Allah.
Just got off the phone with the manager, he did some investagation and assured me it is Zahihah Halal, he used those exact words. Insha'Allah it will be fine.
Salaam, all - sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but this place is NOT Zabihah. I worked with a relative of the owner and he verified it with me. What really upsets me about this place is that they don't make it clear - they say Halal but when you say Zabihah thier faces go blank. Either way I never liked the food here - very dry.
Beware, they serve alcohol at this restaurant. Went here with my friends under the guise this was an 'upscale zabihah restaurant in downtown". It turns out to be a very non-Muslim atmosphere, a lot of drinking, music and smoking, and the patrons were mostly non-muslim. I doubt they serve zabihah meat. I asked the waiter if the meat on the menu was zabihah and he didn't understand the word zabihah. You can come to your own conclusions from there.
I called and asked the restaurant more than once if they serve Halal food and they assured me they do. Even if they don't that is their wrongdoing, not anyone elses. The food is great, the atmosphere is too (minus the alcohol barrels). Would definately go again.
My husband and I are from South Africa and think that its not all what its cracked up to be. Not much charachter in decor or food. was nice to be in halaal place though, but now some concern over other reviews if halaal/not. does someone investigate this? Was nice to eat downtown though.
The food is awesome. Try everything on the menu. I have been there more than a few times. VERY UPSCALE
this restaurant is not Halal at all. I was there with a friend who took me, and I asked the aiter, he was kind enough to inform me, the owners claim it is halal to grow business, and the poultry and meat tiems, are NOt halal. If you fear God, do not enter this place, not only because it serves non-halal food, but being around where alcohol is enjoyed and served is forbidden.
If ever one is complaining about it being halal or not, dont go there! Yes they brew their own beer, but does that mean they are not entitled to buy halal meat. Stop being so pessimistic and dont argue, they say its halal, so take their word for it, just dont complain like little kids.
The food is great get the sultani or koubideh..Its all halal, is it Z? Oh well they was its suited for Muslims so they have beer, most people are Americans its in Downtown, so accept the fact that a bussiness is what counts, if your in ? I would recommend stay away, but the food cant be found anywhere else..:)
They claim that their food is halal, but I have a friend who works there and he did admit that the food is not halal. Only if you order an entree that has fish in it, then you are OK. Otherwise I would avoid any beef or chicken entrees.
Food is good - they claim it's halal - they sell and brew their own beer - you can eat tasty food while being surrounded by beer brewing containers.
"This Persian eatery maintains that their meat is halal, but their alcohol isn't. We had a number of different meat dishes, incluing Beef Barg, Beef koubideh, whole baby spring chicken, Beef shishleek. Corresponding numbers on the menu are 9, 11, 18, 13 respectively. The decor seems quite upscale for a halal restaurant, hence another reason for doubting the zabihah status of the establishment. Prices are average for dinner. Most entrees being around $10-15. Didnt have dessert or the halal liquor."
