Alhumdulillah didn't expected to get a masjid in Murfreesboro. No doubt Allah creates and guides those whom he wants too. Good place. May Allah bless us all. Aameen.
I love this masjid! I had converted to Islam during the final stages of building this particular masjid, but I immediately felt at home. Even though there is a language barrier between me and many of the ladies there, they were all very welcoming to me. They were kind, understanding, and helped me in a great time of need. The imam has always treated me well and remembers me when I come to the masjid, which is nice seeing as I only visit 3 times a year since I live two states away. lol The library at this masjid is really lovely. I feel very comfortable in it and I always find the resources I need about ANYTHING I want to know about Islam. They have an excellent selection of English language books, and I love the layout of the masjid.
I recently watched a news report on CNN that showed people protesting the building of the Islamic center. I just wanted to say as a Cuban Jewish American from Florida not everyone has hate in their heart! Diversity is one of the things I love about my counrty and also freedom of religion. Congratulations on the center!
The availability of mass transit isn't quite accurate... one of the city's Rover routes do run along South Church St. but there are no stops near the masjid, and while you can ask the bus to stop at any location, both Church St. and Middle Tennessee Blvd. are large five lane roads. This makes it a bit difficult to get to and from the current masjid via mass transit. You're better off going by car if you can. The ICM is an excellent masjid that is making great strides to grow and improve services for its community. Events and community gatherings are regularly planned, the imam organizes a yearly hajj and umra trip, a Weekend school is available for young children, in addition to adult classes in recitation of the Quran and a class guiding new converts (or any young adults, for that matter) in practicing their religion. The masjid also has a growing relationship with the nearby Muslim Student Association at MTSU, and has opened its doors several times to non-Muslims in the area to invite them to better understand Islam. Imam Bahloul is friendly and very approachable, and the members of the shura and the congregation in general continue to make anyone who visits very welcome.
