Muslim Youth Center

Very nice, clean space. You have to understand it's a space for youth, so you're going to see a lot of them here. Previous comments about being only Arabic are no longer accurate - everything is in English here.

This is my favorite masjid to go to during Ramadan for Tarawih. Even though we live in Staten Island we go to Brooklyn for this masjid. They tore down the kids gym (Alhamdulillah!) and turned it into another prayer area. During regular everyday prayers everyone prays there. During Ramadan, the women pray there, the men pray on the third floor, and the basement (which was beautifully renovated) is for the women with kids under two. Kids ages 3-5 go to the little kids babysitting area and kids 5-10 go to the big kids babysitting area (both closed off rooms.) I just wish they had more activities for the kids there and didn't feed them DONUTS at 11 p.m.! They also have a teen/young adult program there during Ramadan, I don't know much about that anymore since I stopped going a few years ago (because I had a kid so I stopped considering myself a young adult.) :) They have Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts too.

The playground indoor climbing thing is all riped up and children climb on it in dangerous areas. They just renuvated the basement and added a nice bathroom for the sisters, though it still needs work, it is better than before. This mosque is really coming together. :)

First off, there is a major children's area at the Youth Center. They have this giant indoor climbing thing (think MacDonald's playground). There is also a nice playground (NYC run) right next to the youth center. The 2nd floor has a pretty nice gym (better than expected), and they have a very balanced schedule of sister's and brother's hours. Iftar is held nightly during Ramadan. Karate classes are offered for boys and girls. Center also has daycare for kids who are at least 3 and potty trained. Biggest negative for me is that it's Arabic/Egyptian focused... as a non-Arabic speaking person (although married to an Egyptian), I feel like a 2nd class center. Wish they had a diaper-changing area and better Sister's restroom. Only one sink for all of the Sisters to make wudu with. Yikes! No area for Sisters who are nursing either.
