What a beautiful mosque it is ما شاء الله
I don't follow the school of thought at this masjid, but have attended a few gatherings here that I was invited to. Fairly large masjid, especially since the renovations that took place a few years ago.
I'm writing this for the benefit of our community becasue this is an extremely serious issue involving many members of this mosque and other mosques practicing black magic and voodoo on the community and also stealing donations from the mosque. This is based on my own true experience, Please read and protect your family: The Lowry Mosque / Islamic Society of East Bay is absolutely corrupt. I met the imam, Siraj Ahmad Desai in 2006 when I moved to Union City / Fremont area, California. Siraj Ahmed Desai is a crook who stole thousands of dollars from me. Every time I went to him for advice, he told me that I need to donate money to the poor or make a sacrifice, and my problems will be solved. He always insisted that I give him the money in cash. He told me not to put the money in the donation box or write a check, but to give him cash directly so I gave him around $7,000 within 3-4 years. I also believe he either practice black magic or hires someone in India to do it for him because I kept seeing dreams where someone asks me to give him money. I asked some scholars about this and they said that he must be using jinn to make me see such dreams to give him money. Also, I noticed a lot of strange things happening to me, and asked around and found out he hired people to do magic on me and my wife. If anyone doesn't believe me, call a sheikh or aamil who knows how to break magic, and ask about Siraj Ahmad Desai and his wife Aisha and you will hear confirmations about what I mentioned. He also did a lot of things against Islamic teaching. Him and his wife Aisha caused a lot of problems for me and my wife and did all they could to try to separate us behind each other's back, until we found out what they were doing. I asked Khalid Siddiqi about certain things Siraj Ahmad Desai did to me and my wife, and Khalid Siddiqi said that Siraj was doing Haram things. I also think that the board of directors is corrupt. I mailed complaint letters about Siraj Ahmad Desai to the board and the board never replied to me. I also emailed the board and they didn't reply. When I emailed them, I got a ridiculous reply from Mushtaq Ali telling me that I need to come in to the mosque and bring an ID with me to verify my identity although he knows me personally as I used to volunteer in the mosque. I replied to him but he never answered. How can someone trust people like this, they are NOT saints and we don't know their motive of being on the board of the mosque. What makes this a problem for the community also is that Siraj Ahmed Desai has many relatives from the Desai family who are either imams in the bay area mosques or "hafiz" and so on. I stopped giving money to that mosque or other mosques where Siraj's relatives work. Instead I give the money to the poor people directly. I think this mosque should be investigated by the community and authorities to recover the money people donate so that these donations don't go to thieves who are trying look as pious people. Also, I put Zakah money in a huge metal box that was mounted on the wall of the mosque at the stairway. The next day I went to the mosque to find that box gone. Siraj said that someone broke in the Masjid and stole the box. That seems impossible. The box was about the size of a big freezer, very very heavy steel and mounted with metal nails that were huge and dug into the concrete. It would take several men and heavy tools to break the remove that box. Also, the mosque has very secure with huge heavy doors and chains, and there were no signs of any forced entry. That's why the Islamic Society of East Bay should investigate Siraj and the board. Fremont / Union City / Newark has a big Muslim community and needs the money to go to the community not the Desai family.
One of the few masjids which was designed and built with Islamic Architecture. Very good facilities including a full time Islamic school and mortuary services. The organization has had some internal problems, but is slowly getting better in terms of giving equal participation for women and having more interfaith and open house type of events. Definitely worth checking out especially if you want to see a mosque that looks like a real masjid!
