A NOTE ABOUT THE HALAL STATUS OF PURA VIDA MEXICAN HALAL

 |
This restaurant is listed as sourcing some/all of its meat from a known supplier of Halal meat. This means that the management or employees of this restaurant may not be aware of their own halal status if asked. However, they may be able to confirm their meat supplier, in which case you can proceed if you feel comfortable eating there. Feel free to click on the name of the supplier and/or certifier listed in the Halal summary to learn more about their Halal procedures. Even if you do decide to eat here, we recommend you politely ask that they clean their grill and ensure no contact with non-Halal meat or alcohol. |

★★★★★ Very flavorful with generous portions! One of the better Mexican places I've been to. Be prepared to eat a lot or to take home lots of leftovers; either way, you're getting a good amount of great, filling food. I'd definitely visit again.
Currently, only 2 tables are in service: one inside and one outside, but they offer take out. I'm definitely returning to this place once again, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for good Mexican food, whether Halal or not! Posted on October 14, 2021 |

★★★★★ We really wanted to try some good halal Mexican while visiting LA and this place was perfect. Just a few blocks from the 110, it was a convenient stop on the way to Long Beach. At first we were surprised by the prices ($10 for nachos?) but then we got our food: very large portions loaded with the meat of your choice (we chose chicken). These nachos were so big that the foil container was buckling. Our other item was an excellent carne asada burrito - definitely big enough for two people. The place is a bit small but the decor is nice and the staff is really patient and friendly - while we waited for our food, they brought candy and ice water out for my kids (a nice touch and very appreciated in the 95-degree heat). The salsa bar was excellent and we took samples of 6 salsas to try with our food and they were all very different (have to disagree with the other reviewer who was unimpressed with the salasa bar - they had at least 9 to choose from). All-in-all this was an excellent place to pick up lunch and we would definitely return againt to try their tortas or tacos. Posted on August 13, 2018 |

★★★☆☆ I really wanted to like this place and give 5 stars but can't justify such a high rating based on my single experience.
First the positives. The service is decent, the place looks clean and they cook the food fast. Another huge plus is that the portions are generous and they put a lot of meat in each serving.
Another big plus is that they offer halal meat only, which is usually of better quality.
Now the negatives, and the reason for only a 3-star rating...... The food was very bland.!!
There was almost no seasoning on the shredded beef. I was putting huge quantities of sauces that they provide to get some flavoring from the food. The sauces however were not very well made.
The second negative is that the prices are not correct. Prices advertised are for Chicken and then there is an up mark for beef and another step up for shredded beef.
For a party of three with no drinks ordered the total came out to be $65. I can eat lunch at a nice sit down restaurant with full service at an upscale area for that much. So for a hole in the wall kind of place it was quite expensive!!
I may go again to give them a try, next time I am around that area but won't go out of my way for a visit like this time. Posted on June 2, 2021 |

★★★★☆ This is one of those restaurants where I really like the food as long as it is ordered the right way. The carne asada is tender and flavorful here. I like the carne asada burrito, but they put too much cheese in it. It tastes good when you order it without cheese or tell them to put just a little. I did not like the chicken meat, which came in small greasy chewy chunks. Overall, I would not mind coming back for steak burrito or tacos. My friend said the fish was good here as well. ★★★☆☆ I was disappointed with the food. It was bland and lacked salt and spice. Understaffed. Food took so long to come out. Appetizers and drinks came at the end! Did not seem fresh, just reheated. Posted on November 24, 2019 |

★★★★★ I LOVE YHIS PLACE! Being a revert I miss authentic mexican foods. This is the ONLY place that has the flavor, portions and atmosphere of being mexican. They have halal displayed on their windows and the employees confirm they are halal. It is pricey but worth it! Insha'Allah they stay for good! Posted on September 16, 2019 |

★★★★★ This place was so good I had to write a review. (I usually don’t). Great service and fast. Only cons are it’s a little pricey, small (like 5 tables), and it closes early. Definitely worth a try. Best halal tacos I’ve had by far! Posted on June 12, 2019 |

★★★★★ This is the best halal Mexican restaurant I've ever visited. The food is amazing, the prices are fair, the portions are huge, and the service is excellent. We had them cater an iftar for us last year and the food was an absolute hit! Everything on the menu is good; my husband is especially partial to the breakfast items. This is legit Mexican food, not Tex-Mex, so it's an opportunity to try things you wouldn't normally find halal (e.g. pozole). 100% recommended! Posted on December 29, 2018 |

★★★★★ There have not been too many Halal Mexican places to eat and the few that came weren’t around for long and the food was pretty mediocre. I’ll start with the negatives here first. The place doesn’t look great, seating is limited as well as is parking. The food though is pretty good. Portions are good size also. I went with with if my Mexican friends and they also noted how good and authentic it tasted. If I have one complaint about the food is that I wasn’t too impressed with the salsa bar as that really could need improving. Well worth a visit. Posted on November 11, 2017 |
