Busboys and Poets is a restaurant, bookstore and gathering place where people can discuss issues of social justice and peace. Each Busboys and Poets location should enhance the community -- allowing us to bring together a diverse clientele reflective of the surrounding neighborhoods. Busboys and Poets creates an environment where shared conversations over food and drink allow the progressive, artistic and literary communities to dialogue, educate and interact. The menus at this restaurant clearly state that Halal food is served. Owner confirmed that starting November 2010 all Busboys and Poets locations use Halal chicken.

★★★★★ Had Busboys 3 times total in my stay in DC. Twice in this location and once from the location on 5th. The chicken is halal. I had the nachos and the grilled panini and they were both delicious. I had the panini both times at this location, and you can tell it was made by two different chefs/cooks each time. It wasn't consistent but tasted very good nonetheless. Furthermore, I love the atmosphere of Busboys and Poets. The book collection is enriching and diverse. You can easily get immersed reading the books at Busboys while waiting for your food. I also love all the quotes and murals about social justice, equality, and human/civil rights. Great ambiance. Wish we had a place that represents our history and enriching diverse culture here where I live. Posted on September 21, 2013 |

★★★★★ Ambiance: This is probably one of my favorite restaurants period. The environment is very chill with an urban vibe. It decorated very hipster like. This place is normally super busy at night and a great place to eat and have good conversation. The place is also super clean and so are the bathrooms which is always a plus Ambiance definitely gets 10/10.
Food: All the chicken items are Halal, all the managers on site and the sign confirms it. There is no question there. I had their Grilled Chicken Panini, which is amazing. The definition of mouthwatering. Their Chicken Quesadilla is really good too, it was just not as filling as I would like. Their pomegrante lemonade is amazing too.
Price: For the halal, organic, and quality of food you are getting, prices are perfect.
Overall:
This is the perfect place to bring visitors not from the DC area. They will love the food and the vibe. I'm just happy that there is a really high quality place, that serves Halal food. Posted on April 23, 2013 |

★★★☆☆ I have been to here many times. I have always had either their falafel sandwich or their blackened fish as I was not aware that they carry Zabihah meat. I hope to return to try their Zabihah chicken as it has come to my attention that it is being served. I would still verify with the management and staff. Posted on January 28, 2011 |

★☆☆☆☆ Went here the other day and was informed that nothing on the menu is Halal. Interestingly enough, I was told that they never offered Halal meat. Please remove this listing from the catalog. Posted on January 25, 2011 |
We asked the owner of the Busboys and Poets chain several times in a face-to-face conversation, and he insisted that he switched all locations to Halal chicken starting from November 2010. |

★★☆☆☆ I just called this place last Friday and it was confirmed by the staff that the only halal in this place are the vegatarian dishes. I am only rating this as poor because having them on this website is somewhat deceitful. Posted on November 17, 2008 |

★★★★★ I love this place! The food, the atmosphere, & the wait staff are great! I was informed by the owner himself, that the chicken is halal. The dessert (chocolate cake & carrot cake) are both excellent. Because of its popularity (the restaurant on 14th St), the wait might be on the average, about 15 minutes. But it is definitely worth it. And if you don't want to wait, I suggest the new B&B restaurant on K St. is just as great! Posted on October 5, 2008 |
