★☆☆☆☆ BEWARE! BEWARE! NOT HALAL! Just witnessed the owner of this restaurant buying two big boxes of non-halal beef from Costco in Kanata. Will never eat at this restaurant again!!! Should remove the HALAL advertisement IMMEDIATELY. Deceitful, lying and dishonest people. Will be reporting this soon! Posted on August 24, 2017 |

★★★★☆ Ordered a mixed plate (all the different kababs infused in a large, flavorful plate of seasoned ,fluffy rice). I must say, it was tasty. Overall, the Afghan food is a little different in Ottawa as compared to California, but here I was impressed. Still not the same, but better than the other Afghan joints I tried during my trip. I recommend. Posted on June 26, 2014 |

★★★★☆ We frequent this place often. Overall, above average by Ottawa halal restaurants' standards. Downsides:
1. Limited Menu
2. Expect lower quality of food and service when the restaurant is overwhelmed...rush hours, weekend evenings etc. We prefer to go there in quieter times. Posted on July 30, 2012 |

★☆☆☆☆ This restaurant is sadly getting worse and worse. Sadly the first owner who built this restaurant hadn't done a good job in training the new owners or perhaps the owners just don't feel like giving good food and good service to their customers.
We ordered the lamb chops and mix of chicken, beef and kafta plates. The chicken and kafta was OK but the meat and lamb was a disaster. Do these people not know halal cooking methods? As soon as I put my knife to the lamb and meat, blood was coming out. They didn't bother to cook the meat properly. Ok no problem call over the uninterested waiter and she ignores me. When I finally decided to leave my uneaten meal and pay I confronted the lady at the cash who was so rude and looking at me like I was weird by telling her that in Islam meat is suppose to be cooked and not have blood soaking out.
So muslims beware of this place. Oh yeah they don't calls over the phone for take-out....talk about arrogance. Posted on December 14, 2011 |

★★★★☆ I have to update this as this used to be a very nice restaurant. I think they changed owners now that food is so, so. The rice was pretty cold too. I can no longer rave about any dish from here so I am deleting my old review. When they are busy the waitress turns away people easily and sometimes she locks the door. There are too many tables for the amount of space. It is child friendly. The waitress we had was very unislamic acting, dressing and speaking and she kept purposely banging her butt on our table and flirting with my husband (I am not the jealous type). The washrooms are small and OK. I may only eat there again if I have to. Posted on April 19, 2011 |

★☆☆☆☆ We went today , and totally forgot as to why we stopped coming here. We basically stopped coming here as while i was pregnant ( 1 year ago ) i drank the dhough they had , and it overly sour , that I was poisoned and had to be hospitalized for 1 week . We went today * 1 year later* and there food was once again was cold , and smelt like it was old , small portions , alot of things missing. They brought my husbands order in two seperate portions , at the end we found hair in his rice.. ! We got 2 baskets of naans when we were supposed to get it more then that. In each meal you order you get one naan, when i told the waitress this she said yes but when a whole group orders a meal each they only bring one basket? So 2 baskets of naans that have 5 small peices for 5 fasting individuals. Which is unfair , since we are paying for it. Make sure you ask them for a basket for each person paying for there meal. Plus they took my order for youghurt that has eggplants in them and until we waited for 25 minutes we were told that theyran out. We were not even given water, plus thewaitress served everyone else water and was flirting with a bunch of university boys and serving them , and left us out. Then we had to cough up a 90$ bill , the only thing good about there meal was the desert and green tea. Otherwise , there overpriced , overcrowded , and dirty!! Silk road was once a very good resteraunt , i guess the owner saw how much revenue he was getting and started hiring accomodating too many , and low quality food. Posted on August 23, 2010 |

★★★★☆ the food here is very good (especially love the different kebabs). i think the owners are actually persian (instead of afghani).
prices are okay, but i have noticed that they've gone up a couple of times in the short time since the restaurant's been open. that and a couple of quirks to their menu (where they charge extra for small things). service is friendly, but can sometimes fall short (especially when they're busy when i find them understaffed... on 3 different occassions where i've tried to call in a take-out order, i've had to grab food from elsewhere because they simply stop answering the phone when they're busy).
nevertheless it really is very, very good food. the place itself is clean and nicely decorated. lots of parking and big enough for large gatherings, not to mention 2 sitting areas where you can enjoy your food as you sit on some rugs. Posted on December 24, 2009 |

★☆☆☆☆ Eight of us went there for lunch. After our order was taken we waited for 30 minutes to receive only 4 plates and 20 more minutes for the next three plates (by this time the first 4 were almost done) and the eight plate only arrived when reordered. Very poor service. One star service with five star prices. Not recommended at all. Posted on September 20, 2009 |

★★★★★ Excellent place. Tried the Sultani and the portions were very generous. The food was beyond our expectations. Excellent service. Will definitely come back the next time we back in Ottawa. Posted on July 18, 2009 |

★★★★★ Tried the Sultani meal...beef was incredibly tender. The Naan was the mouth watering. Though exactly like syntron, the chicken qorma was very bland. The server let us try the beef qorma as well, which was better. Please do not change your recipes or your prices...!! Keep up the great effort! Thank you. Posted on February 27, 2009 |

★★★★★ Excellent restaurant. Truly a Gem, tried the following items:
Choppan Kabob, Mantu (full), Sultani, Silk-Road Salad, Afghan Naan, Chicken Breast Kabob, Shami Kabob.
They bake fresh Naan on premises, the aroma is intoxicating!
Most of the dishes were amazing, very flavorful, especially Choppna Kabob abd Shami Kabob. Didn't like Chicken Qorma that came with Sultani, it was too bland for our taste. The Mantu as also average. Most of the dishes come with Salad and rice, by the end of the dinner we had tons of salad left, in hindsight, the extra silk-road salad was too much.
Prices are very economical, considering that the food tastes soo good. Will make this our regular place to eat-out. Glad to see an excellent halal restaurant in the south-end of the city. Posted on December 22, 2008 |
