★★☆☆☆ The food was decent, pretty tasty even, but there was a long strand of hair in one of the sauces. When I brought it to the attention of the brother behind the counter he simply pulled it out and dropped it on the floor. If it wasn't for us traveling and not knowing our way around we would have went somewhere else. Posted on December 22, 2012 |

★★☆☆☆ The chicken in the chicken shawarma platter we ordered was hard and cold. The garlic mayo sauce had wayyy too much garlic. With all the shawarma choices in the area, I rank this toward the bottom. Posted on October 24, 2010 |

★★★★★ I have been a regular take-out customer of their restaurant for the past few months and I've had a great experience. The food was always warm and anywhere from satisfactory to excellent.
I read the article about the health violations but have found their food always to be clean (probably because I'm a recent customer and they must have changed their ways in recent times). I have never noticed poor hygiene or preparation in the food I've ordered.
This place specializes in take out and is one of the busiest delivery restaurants in Ottawa.
Tip: For delivery, pay in cash (instead of INTERAC) and your order will arrive faster. Ordering during non-peak times will also allow you to get your order more quickly. Posted on September 12, 2006 |

★★☆☆☆ Remember - Cited for Food/Health vioalations. Not once, but many times. Halal food? Apparently. It's a partnership I think, and one of the owners is very rude and abnoxious. If you have a $10 in your hand, he'll ring up $10.00. If you have $20.00 in your hand, he'll see it and ring up $15.00 for a plate of chicken shawarma and a can of pepsi. I guess a can of pepsi is now $3.00! Posted on December 20, 2004 |

★★☆☆☆ Shawarma King cited for health violations
July 29, 2004
By: James Gordon
Source: The Ottawa Citizen
Fourteen Ottawa restaurants have, according to this story, collected 26 tickets for health violations since 2003, for offences ranging from smoking during meal preparation to offering hazardous foods for sale. The story says that restaurant inspection documents obtained by the Citizen show the highest fines over the past two years went to the Shawarma King restaurant at 395 Bank St. and Hong Kong Chinese Take Out at 1-800 Hunt Club Rd., totalling $920 and $1,000, respectively. The latter racked up six provincial offence notices. In one report, an inspector writes that chicken was being thawed on the floor and a man was smoking in the kitchen while working above food. The city's manager of environmental health, Siobhan Kearns-Shannon, was cited as saying that while restaurants usually comply after being fined, it takes two or three bad inspections to get to that point, adding, "We're big believers in education and promotion. We've got all kinds of of different strategies we utilize, and the ticket is the last, final resort." Ms. Kearns-Shannon argued that some restaurants used to consider the fines "just a part of doing business" when the tickets were especially insignificant prior to 2002. That doesn't seem to be the case now that the fines have been raised by the province. The highest fine between 1998 and 2000 was $250 dollars for the infraction, "maintain hazardous foods at internal temperatures between 5 C and 60 C." By comparison, the Ottawa Flying Club got a $460 fine for the same infraction last year. Posted on August 30, 2004 |
