★★★☆☆ 01.04.2018>>>I have been to this place a few times in the last year...there chicken sandwiches are pretty good and the children like their butter chicken.
08.07.2014 >>>very bad food...no flavour...even employees advising not to eat the food...WILL NOT BE GOING THERE EVER AGAIN!!!!! Posted on January 4, 2018 |

★★☆☆☆ I wish their business all the best, but truth be told, tonight I had their beef biryani in which I found chicken pieces. Their explanation was that this was not a one off occurrence, but routine. Their base for all meat biryanis is chicken. The rice comes from chicken biryani to which pieces of beef are added and served as beef biryani. Several of their employees were a witness to this conversation. The biryani is C (at best B) class by my standards; it is certainly not the “Student Biryani” I used to have in Karachi some 25 years ago. Skeekh kababs and fried chicken were substandard. It was fortunate we did not order the “chargha”. Please note: I do not have any relationship with any of their competitors, was visiting from Ottawa. Posted on September 2, 2017 |

★★★★★ I have been there several times and I come from farther east end GTA to a taste of this place. So far we have tried 3x hot beef biryani, chicken burger, behari boti, chicken tikka, Haleem and Karahi. My favorite was biryani and the taste reminded me of student biryani from 70s and 80s in lines area (Karachi). The chicken breast in chicken burger had a generous portion. All in all contrary to common misleading conception I found this place to be very good. In desi restaurants you just need to know what to order and how to order. Posted on July 22, 2016 |

★★★★☆ I'm going to address the matter of material importance here: the biryani. I know that Student Biryani had a very rough "Grand Opening" (read: disastrous), but in the 5 or so times I've gone there since then, I have to say that it is the most authentic tasting biryani in town, if not the best tasting as well. The only down side is that the biryani is not ready for sale right at noon, so save it for a day when you are having a late lunch. Also, take the regular (with bone) chicken biryani rather than the boneless version. The other unexpected gem is the fried chicken. If you are looking for a good alternative to the halal fried chicken franchises, Student Biryani does a pretty good job. Posted on March 28, 2016 |

★★★★☆ I did a take out order of Beef Biryani Family Bucket. The lady on phone was helpful and courteous even though she tried to upset me with a combo, she was respectful. The biryani was very very close to what I had recently in Karachi and in Dubai, very authentic and tasty. Yes the price may seem high but really (other reviewers) the $3.99 biryani elsewhere does not compare with this biryani, in my humble opinion. The cheaper biryani deals in Mississauga are driven by severe competition and have hardly the taste or meat of standard. The price should be compared with a 2-3 star dining price and not halal store specials, please as it is not an 'apples to apples' comparison. I would go there again and recommend it too for folks have have been here too long to remember how and authentic biryani tastes like. Posted on November 8, 2015 |

NR Very very rude employee !! She ignored me for 5 mins and once I asked to take my order she pretty much said she will take the order when she has time. Posted on August 17, 2015 |

★☆☆☆☆ Very disappointed! Biryani wasn't even decent tasting and was priced so high! I mean if it was good, I would never hesitate to pay but it didnt even taste like biryani and that should be your main focus! Improve the biryani first then add new menu items...seemed like they went crazy with the menu! theres a million different things on it from american to desi and what not and the main thing that you named your restaurant after isnt even good... ★☆☆☆☆ I agree with the previous reviewers that this place is being run by amateurs in the kitchen (owners and family) and the students who are in the front are trying to fight a losing battle. I went to order a take-out biryani as a first time test of the food quality. I saw one student at the counter who was busy trying to help another customer with an order. Not sure of what the screw-up was but they were not able to sort the order out. A line of 2-3 people had formed behind. Saw two ladies who looked like sisters and were the owner/family joking and preparing to leave with their own take-outs while customers were waiting patiently to order. They did not glance once at the student who was struggling with the order nor did they speak with the customers lined up and asked them to be patient. After about 10 minutes of standing in line, I walked out without ordering . Don't think that this restaurant will survive with the present management style. Posted on September 23, 2014 |

★★★★☆ Good food, great atmosphere and the decor is marvellous. The staff however are young students, that's the only thing I would change, they need to bring in professionals.
Other than that, AMAZING Biryani. Posted on September 1, 2014 |

★★☆☆☆ I totally agree and sympathize with other reviewers. One of the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant. Me and my friend ordered Biryani Rice, Butter chicken and haleem yesterday. Haleem was ok, biryani was poor quality, and butter chicken was one of the worse i have ever had. It tasted like ketchup. Considering they are famous for their biryani, in pakistan, their biryani is very poor. I actually got heartburn due to all the garam masala they dumped in to it. Even then it wasn't spicy. The amout of money they spent on buying the place and decor should have gone to a good chef. It clearly shows that the food is not prepared by a chef but someone like a Mcdonald employee. Who learned how to make biryani on the job. Posted on August 3, 2014 |

★★★☆☆ If you got a chance to talk to any of the actual students that are working at the front of the store you would get a lot of information about why your orders are slow and the wait is so long. I had a chance to talk to the nice young girl with the braid thats always there i believe her name was Fatima. she carried out professionalism and did offer me complementary food when they messed up my order. Her attitude was great and she didnt seem to be giving me any looks and seemed to be the only student that actually knew what they were doing! When called for the managers and owners wanted nothing to do with the costumers and despite the costumers yelling at these children the owners took no responsibility for the Food. The students at the front are all hired and are not family members of the owners or the manager. The staff within the kitchen all seems to be related. I went on Sunday July 15 and i too waited 30 minutes for my order and watched this girl run from custumer to costumer getting scolded and not getting any response from the inside management. WE must realise now that the problem is not the customer service cuz i also went on Monday and Tuesday and was greeted friendly and happily by the same girl and front students and their attitude was great, however, realise that these kids have nothing to do with the actual food and prep and i saw the same braid girl going back and forth from the kitcen trying to complete orders and saying sorry to every single costumer again and again. If thats not good customer service i dont knw what it cuz she was apologizing for the inside kitchen. Its technically not any of their fault or control of the prices. I had a bad experience as well but its a must to realise that this is a new restaurant that is south asian opening in a very densly populated area with many muslims and south asians and their rush hours WILL BE in iftar time. AS a muslim i say we wait it out and give the best wishes and prayers this ramadan rather than pulling them down. If by october their service remains the same then i would agree with all the other comments but for now i think we just have to be very patient. Posted on July 17, 2014 |

★★☆☆☆ It was not really what I expected, and the food is just average. The staff is nice but there was not enough people working so management needs to get organized. I might go back but not any time soon. Posted on July 17, 2014 |

★☆☆☆☆ I was very excited to see Karachi student biryani opening a location in Mississauga. I visited first week after they open and got Meal # 5. deal come with biryani rice only (
No meat) it's not even close to Karachi student biryani. Chk butter was half container and no tasty used old tikka chk , Haleem was horrible. I think management need to go to Karachi to tast student biryani and Haleem. also it's very expensive food. biryani cost $7.50 mush better biryani can buy from other restaurant for very reasonable price. ★☆☆☆☆ My experience at Student Biryani was what I had expected, no surprise to me. The problem lies within the DNA of our people who like to get more of our money and give less of their product. You would think a restaurants named Student Biryani would be affordable for students and delicious. One biryani order is $7.50 which is not affordable for a student, and the Biryani does not taste like Karachi's Student biryani at all. You can get good amount of Biryani everywhere for $4.99 or $5.99 max and it tastes good too for example Karachi kitchen or any of Chowdery Mateen's places.
I agree with previous customers' comments, we had to wait longer and nothing complimentary was offered, I am giving 3 months max and they will close the business. It is run by family members and not by trained professionals although the money they are asking from us is for professional services and products
They will need lot to learn or face eviction sooner rather than later. Posted on July 15, 2014 |

★☆☆☆☆ We went on Sunday, 13th July, guess they had opened on Friday and experienced a huge turnout yet they were very unorganized with food and their service.
I ordered a meal with the famous Chicken Biryani and seekh kebab. Meal 4 & Meal 2 (I was charged for Meal 3 instead of 2 but that would've been bearable, I was refunded in Cash as the interac wasnt working, not accepting Visa n couldnt refund me back on my debit) I had a huge line after me too and there was one person left on the counter to take orders (Horrible!) People were giving me the worst look.
Bad decision by the owners to open this place in Ramadan!
Obviously it was crowded but they not only ran out of food, they made everyone wait for more than the mentioned time and that was even after opening the fast. (They had nothing to offer to open the Fast) Everyone was waiting in lines for their meals. And had nothing to eat for more than 40 mins after the Iftaar time.
We had hungry kids and had to wait for longer to even get small meals to even open the fast. After waiting for 40 mins, We left getting a refund and returning the salad, raita and drinks. I wouldve waited if they had something ready to offer to open the fast (I was ready to pay!) but they werent even giving away chicken pieces, or kebabs and had no fries or bun... (Imagine they made us wait for 40 mins for fries n bun roll too?!?!?)
Badly managed, tough luck. The staff was super confused and speechless, lacked professionalism big time. Im definitely not going back!
May next year or so. Posted on July 14, 2014 |
