★★★★★ Great place mashaAllah; it is THE place to go to for steaks...or pastas...or burgers...well, for pretty much anything.
Amazing taste, prices, service, atmosphere, and it's all halaal too of course.
As testimony to their service, my family actually accidentally arrived 30 minutes before the place opened up that day, and we were still graciously let in and served fairly promptly. That's pretty great when you consider that they entered the kitchen and could only start cooking anything around the same time when we were seated.
There are very few high quality halaal restaurants to rival this one, and no other Italian ones within that subset.
You're missing out if you haven't tried it yet! Posted on June 18, 2013 |

★☆☆☆☆ While the food was good, the service was terrible and frankly mind boggling. First, we had to let the waiter know several times that we are ready to order. Second, after nearly 30 minutes the waiter informs us that he cannot take our order at the table (?!?!) and to have us all line up at the counter. Instead of arguing, we went ahead and wrote down our order. Lastly, many assumptions were made by the waiter (what sides, how to cook steaks, etc). Posted on September 24, 2020 |

★★☆☆☆ Service is really bad and it's getting worse. Food is pretty good but it takes more than an hour to be served. They've almost always made mistakes with our order too. Posted on August 17, 2016 |

★☆☆☆☆ Horrendous service. I had to ask the waiter several times to clean off the table because we were done eating. He wouldn't do it, just kept finding excuses. I assume he was just trying to get us to leave. And to top it off, a mandatory gratuity was added on to the bill. Very unhappy with this place, I won't be visiting again. Posted on April 19, 2016 |

★☆☆☆☆ The food is normally excellent, but the service is consistently disappointing.
One doesn't go to a restaurant just for food, but for an experience--whether it be a fast food joint or a a full service place, or anything in between.
Today, as before, the food was very, very good. But the service was slow, sloppy, and with poor attitude.
In a growing halal food scene, there are other less frustrating, disappointing experiences. Posted on February 19, 2016 |
Thank you for at least being honest about the food quality.
Your appetizer (from Kara Mia kitchen) was served within the 20 mins from the time it was sent to the kitchen and main course (from Desi Eh! kitchen) within 25-30 minutes considering it was a super busy night as you witnessed. On the other side, this very well falls within our standard serving time of 20-45 mins depending on the size of the order.
As we both know, this was never about your experience that night and we wish not go into those details here in this forum.
Kara Mia is the first Halal Italian cuisine restaurants in Canada established since 2006. We have been offering freshly prepared food such as steaks, chicken and pastas in an alcohol free environment to thousands of our very happy valued guests for the last 10 years. Since, none of the dishes we offer can be held ready in advance, it does take time to make them to order. Unfortunately, some of our reviewers here do not seem to appreciate and understand it. It’s such an irony that most of the happy guests never bother to right positive reviews but the ones who can find a slightest weakness in quality or service do not go to bed till they have written a negative review even without eating in some cases. This is very true with all the restaurants!
We never claim to be perfect and do make mistakes as all humans do. We acknowledge and rectify them if brought to our attention on the spot. However, this must be done in a mutually respectful manner. Just being a customer or so called community leader does not give you the right to disrespect the management & staff who maintained very polite and professional behaviour throughout the dialogue.
We have the right to probe and respond with the truth and this should not be portrayed as someone having an “attitude”.

★☆☆☆☆ Quality and quantity is going down.
Owner is moody arrogant, will put a smile only if the order is over $100.
Staff are plain liars. They will commit that order is ready in 5 mins but bring it in 20 mins.
Not worth going there. Posted on January 2, 2016 |

★☆☆☆☆ sa brothers and sisters. i would just like to say my last visit to kara mia was possibly the worst experience ever. being one of their loyal customers i have had enough and would like to say the service is absolutely poor. i mean fine dining where now you hve to order your food at the front and pay rather than them coming to your table. after visiting kara mia on several occasions portion sizes have been decreasing pricing has increased. more attention is being given to the new restaurant. however, my last experience was one in which i have decided to never visit this location AGAIN. i ordered my steak and sausage and the menu clearly said it comes with fries. there have been times where i have asked for substitutes and i was denied. after ordering the meals our order came after 30 minutes only after we had asked the waitress is our order ready if not we like our refund. only then did all 4 meals come. the steak and sausage was accompanied with roasted potatoes and vegetables and i was like this is suppose to come with fries. so the waiter had to go to look into the menu to make sure i was right. i mean i have been visting this locaion longer than the waiter has been employed. so hes like i can bring extra fries to you and im like NO. i have had enough. im like the last few times we have visited theres been mistakes im done. hes like noo noo. all being said the manager came out after several minutes and was talking to my family and me. hes like God was testing you to see if you would forgive them. hes like theres a new chef and the servers are all new because of the new restaurant so they didnt know. NONSENSE. on top of that there was a family in which the girl told her father who had come back from prayers that we had said the f word. the server didnt even tell the manger that we had said the f word just that we were unhappy about the whole situation so how can you accuse us with someone thinking thats what they heard. it was absolutely the worst experience every. im sorry to say while there were some good times in this location it seems like we will be visiting the newer location. aleast we know customers at that location get the attention they deserve and its not given to another business like desi eh Posted on April 5, 2015 |

★★☆☆☆ Im only giving this place a 2 star Bcuz there food is really good. This restaurant has extremely poor poor service. This place would do a lot better if they can fix their servers. It's embarrassing and sad to see how great the Markham location (previously vaughan mills) service is and how poor the Mississauga location is Posted on January 12, 2015 |

★☆☆☆☆ After not visiting this place for a very long time the husband and I decided to give the restaurant another chance considering the new Markham location. We arrived at the restaurant at 8pm and waited a bit to get a seat. The waitress seated us and forgot to bring us the menu. So we waited a few more minutes and asked a passing by waiter if we could get the menu and he said ok very brusquely and then disappeared into the kitchen for something and then didn't return with our menus. Then we asked another waitress passing by for the menu but she too went along to do something and then never returned. Finally my husband got up and asked another waitress for the menu and she finally gave it to us. We decided right away what we wanted placed our order and waited.
I figured the wait would be a while since the place was moderately busy so decided to go visit a store nearby. I returned half an hour later thinking our appetizer would have arrived by the time I returned but was sorely wrong. We had ordered cheesy garlic bread I mean how on earth does that take long to make???? We waited ten more minutes before it then came out.
Then was the wait for our food, which took another twenty minutes for my pasta to arrive and by then we were starving so we both dug in and had at it when our waitress came to us and told us that the other waitress had accidentally given us someone elses dish and that's why my husband's dish didn't come out with mine. Which we didn't care about because we at least had something to eat.
We finished eating then sat around for another twenty minutes for his dish. While we were waiting we noticed so many other customers waiting for so long for their food and it was ridiculous. Dishes that shouldn't even take that long were taking forever and it was really irritating.
By the time we were done it was 10 pm. Two hours we wasted that we won't get back. This place needs to improve on having better cook time, more kitchen staff and more waiters and waitresses that care. The sign that was at the check out saying we treat our customers like family? Yeah right Kara Mia. Posted on October 27, 2014 |

★★☆☆☆ the steak even when asked well done was raw. the pasta's pretty BORING. for an ITALIAN restaurant it has no kick. i have gone 2x and never again. the quality is def not there with how much you are paying. Posted on October 4, 2014 |

★★☆☆☆ I don't think I'm going to visit this place again. Made the mistake of going on a Saturday evening during Ramadan. Firstly they had a limited Ramadan menu which is okay. But when I'm going to a restaurant while fasting I expect my food to come relatively promptly. Gave our order at 8:45 and she told us who ever orders will get their food first - ok. We didn't get our food until 9:50.... Totally unacceptable. It wasn't even packed. Food was good but by the time it came out we were just angry.
Then on the menu it said that all pastas come with bread and salad. Ours came so late and then it came with no sides. When we asked the waitress said it's only if you get a smaller portion of pasta - it said that no where on the menu. She brought some for us after we complained about it. The management of this place sucks and they need to get their act together because I actually enjoy the food. Posted on July 20, 2014 |

★☆☆☆☆ I'm officially done with this restaurant. DONE DONE DONE. I have given this place so many chances and nothing ever changes.
I made reservations for this evening, arrived early and placed an order with the waitress (Arab brunette, she is fast, efficient, polite and makes our stay amazing) and told her that I'd like the food for just after 9 as we break our fast at a specific time.
She told me not to worry, it was about 8:30 and she was going around taking orders. Mind you the restaurant at this point in time was super packed like a zoo with so much people. Some who made reservations and others who clearly did not.
There were 3 other waitresses in the restaurant at this time. (one with glasses and two newbies) who clearly don't do as much as the Arab girl, they usually have this dumb founded look on their face.
Long story short, a family comes in around 8:45 and one of the members goes to talk to the owner.
When the food starts coming through the kitchen doors everybody notices that the people who came in clearly last (mentioned above) are getting there food first. How on Earth is this fair? Everybody is fasting 15+ hours so why should they get there food first? Have you not heard of first come, first serve? Chronological order????
I checked my phone and was already about 9:40ish and our food had not arrived. I checked with the waitress and asked her why it was taking so long. At this point we have already been here for just over an hour. Do you not prep your stuff so that the food goes out on time? Do you not care? She checked at the back and told me it wasn't even started. Are you kidding. What a joke.
Right now I feel that this Karamia location has lost it's spark. There is all this construction/ and Desi related stuff that can clearly happen after Ramadan is over.
Focus on making your customers happy. If it wasn't for us, there would be no YOU. Posted on July 18, 2014 |

★☆☆☆☆ While the food is great, the service at this location is horrendous. I have been there numerous times and it is always a long wait. The last time I went, I ended up walking out after 90 minutes of waiting for food to show up... which is too bad because the food can be really good. Posted on May 30, 2014 |

★☆☆☆☆ Sadly we have been to this establishment numerous times. On each occasion the thought of "giving them another chance" was top of mind. Due to the continuous lack of improvement in their attitude, service and quality of food, we will not be returning.
Just like everyone else, we work hard for our entertainment and dining budget and refuse to continually be mistreated when we ask nothing more than quality service and product.
Based on the number of negative reviews on this forum, its about time that this restaurant was boycotted to teach them a lesson. Posted on March 6, 2014 |

★★★★★ Been there again recently, Service and food quality, Atmosphere all are consummerate to the Price. Albeit, they should be more open about their extra toppings costs etc (e.g. baked Cheese etc.) which were more of a surprise to show up on a bill at the end. But nonetheless, very decent place for a couple to enjoy a meal out.
Service is decent, but I can't afford this place other than when they have their lunch specials going. Food Quality and ambience is great, but the restaurant is on the pricey end. (Submitted on September 17, 2010) Posted on September 6, 2013 |

★★★★☆ I went to Kara Mia on the weekend and there were many things that made my dinner exceptional, but the most important thing was, of course the food.
I ordered the Penne Picante Rosa pasta, which was recommended by our very friendly waiter. His recommendation did not disapoint. The pasta was very delicious. Fresh ingredients, warm and spicy sauce and perfectly cooked pasta. I could have ate more lol. Also, proportion size was perfect and service was fast too. Would go to Kara Mia again in a heartbeat! ★★★★☆ Really Really REALLY GOOD FOOD! Awesome. Everything was tasty! I liked the BBQ steak the most. The saffron poutine was really good too. I've never had something like that. Overall AWESOME. If I were a teacher, I would give this restaurant an A-. The only thing bad was the service. They took a while, but at the end of the day it was worth it. Although the staff was very very loud, I couldn't hear my sister beside me. Posted on June 2, 2013 |

★★★★★ Went here with my brother in law along with 4 of our kids (babysitting duties) and ordered the dinner for 4. The place was next to empty so really cant comment on the speed of the service as its not a fair assessment. But in regards to the food, for the price (approx $50), they brought a lot of it. Pasta dishes, chicken dishes, fries, salads, finger foods for the kids, we had no room on our table for everything. Service was great and the kids were running around causing ruckus, but the staff was still friendly. The place is really clean along with the washroooms and the decor of the restaurant is very nice as well. Posted on December 4, 2012 |

★★★★★ I visited Kara Mia last night with my family at mississauga location. Previously have had many recommendations for Kara Mia, but i never took it seriously whatsoever. Anyhow decided to eat out at Kara Mia with my family for the first time. No doubt the food was different, compared to other halal eat outs. Am not a big fan of Affy's Grill, its somewhat over-rated. Kara Mia's got way better steaks than anywhere in Ontario. Personal preference Kara Mia had an authentic taste. EVERYONE MUST TRY! HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. My next eat out with friends will definately be Kara Mia. Highlight of my visit was the surprise appearance of the the owner himself, who came out to have a few words with my family. His humbleness and genuine nature is one thing i have never experience at any restaurants anywhere in Canada. Words cannot describe the good food and most welcoming restaurant it is ! ★★★★★ One of the best Halal restaurant in Mississauga. If you like authentic Morroco-Italian halal steak, this is the place to go for it.
Have been there multiple times with my family and love the food on every visit. Have tried most of the items on their menu and the best so far are Peppercon Steak, Chicken Saffron, Penne Picata Rose. Moreover, this restaurant is my child's favourite spot to go on special occasions. Salman the owner and kadi, Alya the staff are welcoming.
Kadi and Alya even accomodated my child who has special dietary restrictions. I highly recommend this place to all. Posted on October 28, 2012 |

★☆☆☆☆ I went there few time before and everything was perfect but will not go again after my last visit with my family. We went around 9:15pm. Food served quickly but was warm not hot like re heated. Beef ribs were so bad and had microwave burn on it. They reduced the serving size of the ribs and it is now the half size but prioce is same as before. It was really a waste of our evening and money. Posted on October 2, 2012 |
Thank you for sharing your experience and it is sad to hear that we could not meet our standards on your last visit like we always strive to do. You seem to be one of the thousands of our satisfied regular customers!
Just to set the record straight, we have not reduced any portions (despite the increasing food cost) including ribs. Ribs are served in a rack of either 3 or 4 depending on the size & weight. This has been the norm from day one. However, it may have been an isolated case of wrong portioning and temperature. All of our food is cooked fresh as you wait and there is NO reheating involved! There could have been some other reasons behind this incident.
We, Kara Mia, being the pioneers of Italian Halal cuisine in Canada take pride in what we do and make every effort to ensure that our customers leave well satisfied. Established since 2006, our well reputed brand has been built on our continuous efforts and great support from our guests!
If informed by the customer, our servers are trained to make their judgment to replace or void any item that does not seem to meet customer’s expectations. Had you requested our server and communicated your concerns, he/she would have gladly replaced or taken the item off your bill without any hesitation. We still encourage you to visit us again with your family and mention this incident and you will be looked after on the house.

★★★☆☆ Only been there once after a lot of people told me to try a burger or steak there (not a pasta fan), so tried their beef burger with peppercorn sauce (take out, so couldn't order the steak), and it was average, not something to write home about. Heard they have some good steaks, but haven't tried them yet, and hopefully the beef patty in the burger is not same as the steak, or I'll be looking for a crescent in stead of stars for the review. ★★★★★ I had my walima at Kara Mia and it was just amazing, they really treated us like family :). The staff allowed us to have separate tables for the women and the men and had everything set and ready when we arrived. The servers even had flowers on the tables!
Nadeem, the owner was incredibly helpful and kind and he helped me to create a custom menu with the most popular dishes from the restaurant. My friends and family just LOVED it, the first time they've had halal steaks and pasta!
I had the Peppercorn steak with a side of Penne Picante Rose pasta which was absolutely delicious, half my party had it and raved about it. The staff were very friendly, and the food arrived quickly, everything was fresh and delicious. I couldn't have asked for anything more, it was my ideal experience for my Walima and the chefs and staff of Kara Mia really pulled it off.
Thank you to Nadeem and the staff at Kara Mia, may Allah reward you all, ameen. Posted on August 6, 2012 |

★☆☆☆☆ I was at the Kara Mia (Mississauga location) on Saturday for my birthday, hoping to have a wonderful time. Being pregnant, I wanted to go somewhere good and have a lovely time with my family. Was I ever wrong! It was the worst night I have ever had and I never plan on going back. I had a party of 15 people and had made reservations. We all showed up on time and had to switch tables 3 times so that the restaurant was able to accommodate us. Question – shouldn’t this be ready for us prior to us arriving to the restaurant since we made reservations? Apparently not. To top things off, our ‘friendly and courteous’ waitress (emphasis on sarcasm) didn’t ask us if we wanted appetizers, did NOT come to ask us our beverage orders, and did NOT even come to take our order for dinner. I had to go and find her to TELL her that we’re ready to place our order for dinner and that she did NOT take our order for drinks.
Two and a half hours later, we’re all still waiting for our dinner. Our waitress never came to see us or kept us updated on what was going on. Did I mention I was pregnant? So I’m waiting all this time for my dinner and here she comes with three plates and says ‘Here’s three – start eating and I’ll bring out the rest.’ Excuse me – who are you to tell my guests and I what to do? At this point, I could not take it anymore.
I went down to ask her what was taking so long in getting us our dinner since we ordered almost two and half hours ago. Here’s the kicker – she does NOT take any responsibility for anything! She blamed ME saying we changed our table 3 times. Sorry – how does that affect what time we took our order? And how is that my problem when I made reservations and they could not even get the table right? Was I ever shocked and appalled to listen to how all the blame came down on me – the customer. And when asking for the manager, she says that she is the manager. Please. I knew who the manager was because when we walked in, my husband was speaking with him. Why would you look me in my face and lie to me? When you get a pregnant lady really upset, she’s bound to snap – and I did and yes, I do regret uttering a small curse but she brought me to it. I cursed the situation and not her. I am by far a very nice person who does NOT engage in confrontation – but she kept blaming me on why our dinner was not at our table.
After being upset, I went back to my table and sat down. She comes up saying that she refuses to serve me for my attitude. She says that I shouldn’t have spoken the way I did as we’re in a Muslim restaurant. Boy was I shocked. She says ‘I would prefer if you left.’ Left? First of all, we are all Muslim and what the heck does she know about Islam? Obviously nothing! There was no point in arguing so we left. It was almost 10:00pm and I had enough. I didn’t say anything else because at this point, the service was just so horrendous that if you said anything else, you’d probably get blamed for it anyway.
So let’s recap:
- It was my fault that we did not get our dinner quickly enough because we changed tables 3 times even after calling in and making reservations for the number of people we were bringing
- There was NO responsibility or accountability taken by the waitress or the restaurant’s end
- Politeness? Courtesy? Professionalism? If you’re looking for it you can definitely forget about it because it’s not here
- Telling a pregnant lady on her birthday to leave the restaurant when she has done nothing but ask for a reason why their dinner was taking over 2.5 hours to come - COMPLETELY UNACCEPTBLE.
If you’re running a business, it’s your responsibility to ensure that your customers are taken care of. Granted if you’re busy, at least keep them posted and don’t ignore them. Kara Mia is definitely off my list. Not only did they lose my business, they also lost another 15 families’ business as well.
All in all I strongly do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The customer service is absolutely horrible and unacceptable! I would recommend you go to a restaurant where you’re taken care of and are treated with respect. Posted on January 23, 2012 |
This is in response to reviews by S.H & Fatimah Koomar (below) , related to the same party. Like they say, there are always two sides of a story. It is very sad to comment that in their reviews they have mentioned repeatedly about being Muslim and being at a Muslim restaurant etc. whereas their own conduct was completely opposite!
Here is what happened;
• Party was booked for 15 people at 7 PM. 2-3 people showed up on time and rest of the group didn’t show up for half n hour or so and still less than 15, approx. 10. FYI, No full service restaurant would even have them seated till everyone in the party was there. They were not sure if more people will show since it was a surprise party. We still seated them at a table for 15 but they themselves decided to move since they were less than 15 and we were very busy that night. More people started showing up after ½ hr and they requested us to move back to their original table, which we gladly did even our servers were pre occupied by tables on hand.
• While the guests were still arriving, our FEMALE server assigned to this table went twice to check if they were all there and ready to order but they were not. Finally around 8:15 ish, they were ready to order, our server got to them as soon as she was done servicing other tables in the her section. Now there is an important point that needs to be noted here. We do our best to book large parties early in the evening so that we can look after them with full attention before the busy dinner rush starts. In this situation, due to their commotion, they clearly missed the window and ended up at the beginning of busy dinner hours. Still their orders were taken and put into the system as soon as possible.
• While they were waiting, they did inquire about the food a couple of times and server informed them that the order is in the cue and the kitchen staffs are doing their best to get it out ASAP. Perhaps, she should have been clearer about the time it will take from the order taking time NOT when the first person arrived.
• While our kitchen staff was in the process of putting the food out, some of the girls from this group (including the one who was pregnant) started confrontation with the server. In the meantime, food started coming to their table but things got out of hands
• When these girls started swearing at the staff, using very bad language, calling her b* etc. Our server ( who is a non Muslim and mother of two) even reminded the pregnant lady that it is not appropriate to use this language especially when you are pregnant and your baby could listen to you but the aggression from this group escalated and they were asked to leave the restaurant.
• Our server was shaken and felt very bad about the whole experience because most of our customers are very good Muslims and conduct as a good Muslim! Our non Muslim staffs are always very happy to work in this peaceful and respectful environment. A gentlemen from another table walked up to the server and apologized on their behalf (although he had nothing to do with the whole incident) and said that this not what we represent as a community.
• We have been running this business for the past 6 years with full honestly & integrity. Kara Mia has proven itself to be one of the most sought after restaurant & caterers. Our focus is on quality meals which use only the best and freshest ingredients, combined with excellent presentation and customer service. However, we don’t claim to be perfect as mistakes may happen while running this unique concept but we are the first one to acknowledge and rectify our customer concerns, if reported.
• We are not in the business to mistreat our customers; however, such behaviors that may affect the modest environment of our restaurants will not be tolerated! We are blessed to have thousands of amazing loyal customers and would like to continue to keep it respectful place for them, IA.

★☆☆☆☆ So we went to Kara Mia (mississauga location) last night for my sister's birthday... we had the WORST time possible. I have NEVER been to a restaurant and waited 2 HOURS for our food. Our waitress was the worst. We made reservations for 15 ppl, they gave us a table for 8, then we moved to another table, and still these idiots moved us again because it was too small. after ordering our food, after an hour and a half, only 3 of us got food, and said the rest will come soon. after waiting for 2 hours, my pregnant sister had a word with the waitress who apparently was the manager, and she blamed it all on us. she said its our fault, we switched 3 tables, its busy. im sorry, if your running a restaurant, u need to no how to run it properly. how is that acceptable? 2 hours of waiting for food????? we got 3 plates at 9:15pm!!!!!!! we were there from 7pm!!!!!!!! after having an argument with the manager, she tells my pregnant sister, she doesnt want to serve her.. what a way to ruin a birthday! the manager said we cant act like this in a muslim restaurant, but we are muslims ourselves and if she knew any better, she would know NOT to kick us out /. this was by far the WORST experience i have ever had, this retaurant needs to learn how to treat the customers and not to blame them. i have no idea how shes a manager, she clearly doesnt have any people skills. will definately never go back Posted on January 22, 2012 |

★★☆☆☆ You know, this (Mississauga) location had a lot of promise when it first opened. Prime location. Lots of parking. Close vicinity for a lot of the Muslim Mississauga population and of course the Kara Mia brand.
But boy has this place gone downhill ever since. A couple of people on here have already mentioned the service. My goodness gracious the service. Slow. Very slow. Painfully slow. Slow-like-service-in-a-supposedly-high-class-or-any-restaurant-should-never-be slow. Gordon-Ramsay-would-throw-a-fit slow.
In a packed restaurant (how the place was packed is a different question [probably because a certain neighbouring restaurant was packed to the gills]), there were only 3 servers working and 1 busboy.
The servers apparently are oblivious to how quick service (taking orders at least) in a restaurant should be. As an example, there were 3 police officers who arrived in the restaurant about 15 minutes after us. They got served before us. Well actually only 2 of them got served before us. The third also got served before us, but only after both of his colleagues had already finished their meals. Dude was visibly upset. The server? She didn't even apologize when she placed his entree in front of him and walked away like everything was jim dandy.
Now on to us. There were four of us. We all ordered, the burger. Yes, four burgers. Well actually let me go back to the order-placement shenanigans first. It took us at most 10 minutes to close our menus and no one took our order for another 15 minutes after that and even then, only when I waved one of the servers down. Oh and by the way, no one came to our table until I waved the server down to place the order.
So, 25 minutes have already passed, but hey, at least the order's been placed. Another 10 minutes pass. 20 minutes. 25. Hmm, I go up to the server and ask for an update. "Oh, they're just placing your burgers out on the plates. They'll be out in a minute". "Oh joy", I exclaim (on the inside).
It is worthwhile to note that there's only about half an hour left until closing time and the place is almost cleared out. There were maybe only 2 other tables that had patrons at them and they had all already been served.
Five minutes pass. Hmm, forgivable. 10 minutes. Tolerance fading. 15 minutes. I go up and ask for our order to be canceled. "Oh, there's actually one burger that we couldn't cook fully yet... it'll be out soon." Whatever that means. She brings over another server to convince us. Says our meals will be out in a couple of minutes.
Another five minutes pass. We've had enough. We go to the desk and ask for the manager. The server goes into the back and comes back out and informs us that the manager has apparently left the building (he was probably headed to the butcher shop to fetch the burger meat for that one remaining burger).
We're now in the middle of letting the server know that we're on our way out. We have adequate justification to do so. She tries to assure us that it's not her fault; she only places the orders. We inform her that she's not to blame. A minute or so after we asked for the manager, one of the other servers comes out with 2 of the orders. 52 minutes have passed and yet only 2 burgers were able to be grilled. Downright shameful.
We inform them that we're not content in dining there for the rest of the night and take our leave. So, after 1 hour and 17 minutes of sitting around looking at each other, we left the establishment having had nothing to eat.
Is this a first world problem? Yes, yes it is. However, we live in a "first world" country and were dining at a restaurant whose prices reflect the "first world" attitude and had a reasonable expectation for the service to be "first world" as well.
It was now late and there were still some pizza and fast food joints available. We hit up one of those to satisfy our hunger, but so much for a decent night out.
Would we go back to this place? Absolutely not. I said that after the last time I went, but after this time, I will avoid this place like the plague.
I give this place a 2 out of 5. If we'd have been able to taste the food, perhaps that would've changed the overall opinion but with the long delay and relatively bad quality of service, we left this place with (pardon the pun) a bad taste in our mouths. Posted on September 11, 2011 |

★★★★★ It is far one of my fav. Restaurant.

★★★★★ Surprisingly I had a really good meal here, the food was different then what I normally eat in the typical desi places. I really enjoyed the chicken stir fry with linguini and was looking forward to having the BBQ chicken pizza. which they ran out for the day unfortunately. My cousin also enjoyed the burger and the spicy rose sauce pasta. Be prepared to wait about 20 - 30 minutes for the food to arrive since they make it fresh. Location is nicely decorated and the service was very welcoming. I highly recommend this place, great place to get Halal italian food which is hard to find. Posted on June 14, 2011 |

★★★☆☆ Just visited Kara Mia Mississauga after a very long time. Main course was very tasty, but appetizers/salad was disappointing. Service was slow, as I think is normal for the Mississauga location. Posted on May 15, 2011 |

★★★★★ Kara Mia's is excellent Masha-Allah! The service is fast and friendly, the food is really tasty and best of all they have a place to pray! I would suggest the BBQ steak with pasta, but ALL the food I have tried is great Masha-Allah. Whenever my wife and I go out to eat we come here all the time! Posted on May 9, 2011 |

★★★★★ I have been going to Kara Mia since it opened in 2006 in Vaughn and this is by far my favourite restaurant. Not only do they offer delicious meals but great service and staff. Great food, ambiance, service, a prayer area and now they have a new menu! We always look forward to experimenting with their delicious dishes. I would definitely recommend this to anyone craving authentic Italian food that is halal. Posted on May 9, 2011 |

★★★★★ Excellent place to dine! Service was very friendly, atmosphere was sophisticated and classy, and the food was delicious. Definitely one of the best restaurants I have visited, and I would highly recommend the experience to anyone. The "R&D" is superb- always experimenting with new additions. I just tried their new burgers, beats Hero Burger by a landslide. I am *NOT EXAGGERATING*! If you like Hero Burger, I'll tell you it's a disappointment compared to Kara Mia's new burger additions. Also, try their baby-back ribs. I thought my mom's home-cooked ribs were a classic- well these are just as good! I also enjoyed their Meat Lover's Lasagna, the sauce has a distinctive flavor. And their Pina Colada is wow- me and my bros have been trying to create the perfect Pina Colada for a while and have not come close to the one served at Kara Mia; you can actually taste the coconut and pineapple mingle. Authentic flavors, and reasonably priced for the quality served. Worth it. Go! Posted on April 29, 2011 |

★★★★★ We discovered Kara Mia about two years ago when I moved here from Ottawa. It was a hitting a jack pot feeling for me and my several friends. To us, it is the best gift Toronto has to offer!
We have been to both the locations several times and have thoroughly enjoyed the Kara Mia experience!
When we first visited Kara Mia Mississauga back in 2009, we were so happy that finally we have a place who offers food for the second generation at very affordable prices, a 10 oz Halal AAA sirloin for
Just $ 19.99?, where can you find a Halal steak for this price. FYI, non Halal restaurants offer the same size steaks at min $ 25+ onwards!
I was so surprised to see people making statements here about this place being expensive, quantity not being enough blah blah blah. No offence but let me make it easy for these people. If you are NKB (nan/kebob/briyani) comparison mentality, then this place is not for you. You will for sure find this place expensive. At least I know this much, when you cook fresh food without any tenderizer especially steaks, it takes minimum 20-25 mins ez. Something like fillet mignon, min 30 mins! That’s when the appetizer come in handy!
This is not a zoo like takeout/self serve kebob or briyani place where you get treated like thugs and given heavily tenderized low quality meats or frozen/precooked to micro waved food etc. Don’t trust me just go and visit them, there are plenty of them in the neighborhood!
In the meantime, we are heading to Kara Mia tonight to enjoy their famous BISTECA FUNGUI with grilled shrimps!
Way to go Kara Mia, keep it up! Posted on February 6, 2011 |

★★★★★ I recently took a group of 22 people to this restaurant for a surprise party I was throwing for my fiancee and experienced the highest quality of service from the manager and wait staff. I arranged the party over email from Ottawa and had no trouble whatsoever. The manager emailed me back promptly, allowed me to create a custom menu, provided a group discount on appetizers and drinks and allowed me to request a certain seating area!
He was so kind and was at the restaurant making sure everything was perfect and went smoothly from the moment I arrived to set up the decorations (4pm) until the moment we left (11:30pm - we closed down the restaurant - everyone had such a good time!)
The food came out warm and fresh and tasted as good as it looked! Every single person in the party had a fantastic experience and said they hoped to return soon!
Thank you for such an incredible experience and helping make it so easy to plan a surprise party from 500km away in a different city!
The only slight negative was that some individuals who orderd pasta dishes with chicken found the chicken to be very little in their dishes. Posted on February 4, 2011 |

★★☆☆☆ Not a great experience:
- Felt like a ghost house, it was a Friday evening.
- Some dishes took 35 mins b4 served.
- As everyone has stated earlier, the food amount (including drinks) were not propionate.
- The food was expensive ($22 for that Fungus steak, sorry I don't even remember the spellings).
- Someone below advised not to sit close to the wind/door. Well I was on the table at the very other side, and still it was chilly.
Bottom line: not so tasty food and neither the price was right. Posted on January 29, 2011 |

★★★★★ I had an engagement dinner this past weekend at this lovely and cozy place and everything went as planned. The staff put out lovely candles, the manager gave me a special party menu for the guests, and the food was great. All of my guests loved the food and half of them didn't even know the place existed until they received my party invitation. Many, including myself will be returning to this wonderful restaurant that combines fine dining and halal under one roof. :) Posted on January 21, 2011 |

★★★★★ Kara mia is by far one of my favorite restaurants, it is always my first choice when my family wants to go out. The food is amazing, especially their delicious safron sauce (i recommend it), their service is great, the environment is very enjoyable and relaxing and it is overall a great experience everytime i go! People who disagree with me usually set their expectations too high, and need to realize we are lucky to have an option like this! Posted on January 13, 2011 |

★★★★☆ Pros: Quality is great. Service is great. Novelty of professional Italian halal cuisine. Only in Toronto...
Cons: Prices are absurd. Portions are average. Together, this means poor value for money. Also, if you go in the winter, sit away from the windows, gets chilly. Posted on January 8, 2011 |

★★★★★ Excellent food, great service! Steaks as usual were great, but especially loved their focaccia bread and the almond cheesecake - unbelievably good Alhamdolillah. And best of all, it is HALAL and not partially-halal or the maple-lodge-halal or the halal-with-alcohol, none of that nonsense that plagues halal restaurants today! Highly recommended. ★★★★☆ It was a nice change to be able to eat at a halal Italian cuisine! We ordered the peppercorn steak and bisteca fungui. Both steaks were very tasty and the meat was definitely of good quality. Staff were friendly and service was good. Overall great experience! Posted on December 10, 2010 |

★★★★★ a bunch of us friends came in together and we basically ordered all the types of different things from the pasta to the safron chicken to the steak. and i can honestly say that the food was pretty darn good. and the quantities were also pretty good. met and talked to the owner..a very nice and polite guy as well! all in all, the $20 odd bucks we each spent on our meals was well worth it. highly recommended to everyone! ★★★★★ We have been going to Kara Mia since they opened their first location in Vaughan in 2006 and it has always been a great experience!
Since we live in Mississauga, we now go to this location and I must say they have really seasoned themselves well in the last two years!
We were greeted by a charming server to a nearly packed place!
We were served (on the house) with hot & fresh home baked Focaccia bread which is a wonderful addition!
They had a couple of specials over the weekend (I believe items from their new dinner menu arriving soon we were told) , so we decided to try, I ordered a rack of ribs with French Fries and opted for soup of the day as a side item with the ribs. It was lentil & spinach and it was simply fantastic! My friend ordered their newly upgraded “chicken stir fry” and he was really impressed since it had plenty of fresh peppers and other vegetables topped with fresh sesame seeds, I could only smell sitting next to him as my own hands ( mouth too) were totally full with succulent meat of ribs! My friend who was visiting from Calgary tried BBQ steak and was extremely impressed with the quality of meat and crunchy French fries and fresh vegetables it came with!
Service was prompt and courteous and I looked really good in front of my visiting friend, ahemmm!
Now let me quickly comment on some of the reviews I am seeing here, people talking about pricey, not fresh blah blah…... Hey guys what world are you living in??. Have you ever gone to or seen menu from other steak houses? Find me another place serving AAA sirloin under $ 20.00?, never mind the Halal factor!
I guess the problem is that people start comparing place like Kara Mia with desi joints and don’t realize that this cuisine is a different cuisine and not only requires high grade ingredients & meat products but requires professional chefs to prepare! In all fairness, they are at least 25% cheaper than main stream comparable restaurants!
Of course since it is “ala cart” cooking, sometimes things don’t turnout the way you expect but they have been always very prompt to tweak the dish to suit your taste! You know when server comes back after serving the food to see how is everything?, that’s when you need to SPEAK UP guys and give your HONEST feedback!
Keep up the good work guys at Kara Mia, finally a place for those WHO GET IT! Posted on November 22, 2010 |

★☆☆☆☆ They claim to serve "fresh food", it's not fresh at all. It's pretty much all reheated (chicken, vegetables, potatoes). Prices are absurd for the quality of food. There is no shortage of halal restaurants in Peel, do yourself a favour and find another! Posted on November 6, 2010 |

★☆☆☆☆ I have been many times to Kara Mia at the Vaughan Mills location, but, it's been awhile since I went, it's alittle high end so we usually only go on special ocassions. This was my first time at the Misissuaga location. We ordered a pasta, which was so-so; nothing overly special and a T-bone steak. The homemade sauce looked and tasted like HP, the 'bed of vegetable' was a sad looking piece of broccoli, cauliflower and three round carrots. The roast potato did not look like something that's been cooked today and the actual meat was so chewy and fatty that we couldn't eat large chunks of it. I realise prices are increasing, but, this is a sad way to cut costs. For the $20 + tax that the steak cost me, my husband and I spent the ride home discussing better ways to spend the money. Sorry, Kara Mia you may have saved money, but, it'll be me that will be saving it from now on, since, I doubt you'll get me through your doors again. Posted on October 10, 2010 |

★☆☆☆☆ I have attended their location in Vaughan and was happy with the food and prices, BUT when I attended in Mississauga as this is now closer to me I was vey disappointed with their pirices at this location it`s too HIGH, how come the Peppercorn Steak is cheapper in Vaughan and in Mississauga it`s over $17,00 why does this owner think we in Mississauga the people have more money to spend, I would think in todays economy many resturants are reducing their prices for the consumer, my main point is again why is there a differnce in prices between the two locations for the SAME exact dishes?????? ★★★★★ My family and I are huge fans of the service and food delivered by Kara Mia. We live in Markham but because of the delicious food and personable team found at Kara Mia, we drive 1 hour to their Mississagua location. It simply cannot be compared!!! Their entire staff is awesome, from Ashley who is a waitress to the owner who finds time to greet his guests.
Take the time to visit Kara Mia if u havent, u wont regret it!!! :-) Posted on November 30, 2009 |

★★★★★ I highly recommend this restaurant. I visited Kara Mia for the first time on their anniversary and had a wonderful experience... the food was phenomenal and the service was friendly and accomodating. The manager/owner added a personal touch by making himself visible and present and interacting with the customers. I come from an Italian background and must say, the food lives up to Italian cuisine standards. Posted on November 1, 2009 |

★★★★★ I'm very surprised at the negative remarks on Kara Mia. I have been going there since they first opened in Vaungh and go to Sauga location frequently. If you have an issue with Service please make sure to address it with the owner. He's great guy and also aims to please his customers.
As for the food, it has always been the best and freshest. Me and wifey love the Peppercorn Steak nice place to bring guest. Posted on October 9, 2009 |

NR RESPONSE TO ALMASF REVIEW
Dear brother/sister, At Kara Mia, we take customer concerns very seriously. We have been doing our best to run this unique but very demanding business since 2006 with full honesty and integrity and Alhamdulillah, have earned a reputable name in the market place.
I have investigated your last experience at our restaurant and would like to mention that the response to our Iftari buffet dinner has been overwhelming so far since the buffet is very reasonably priced and kids under 6 eat for free (your party consisted of 7 adults and 7 kids). The whole idea behind the buffet service is to offer food that is readily available for fast breaking, not to make a healthy profit!
Being Italian food (unlike the curries and briyanis) our food needs to be cooked fresh, even for the buffet and sometimes it can result in a slight delay for certain dishes. However, there are other items on the buffet that are always available.
With reference to service issues, we take pride in providing excellent service. We do not claim to be perfect, however, we always have a supervisor or manager on the floor who is more than happy to address any service or quality related issues.
I have spoken to the server about the billing error. Since you requested a split bill (something that we usually do not do), it resulted in the unintended error which was fixed immediately. Of course, bills are always presented to customers for reviewing prior to payment. We have been unintentionally short changed several times by customers but giving the benefit of doubt, as we all should do, we have always resolved the situation amicably.
Re prayer area, we are a restaurant and not a mosque. The place allocated for prayer can not always be large enough to comfortably accommodate all of our worshipping guests. However, people have always appreciated the space we provide for prayer, which is a private (closed door) prayer area not a hall way. Any clean place can be a place of worship.
I hope I have addressed all your concerns, if not, you are welcome to email us. We look forward to your next visit at Kara Mia, inshaAllah.
Kind Regards,
Owner Posted on September 6, 2009 |

★★★★★ We arranged our Iftar party for our family and friends over the weekend and mashaAllah it was one great experience!
We were really happy to find dates and water on every table to break fast and the best part, an isolated area to pray maghrib so we did not have miss the prayer.
Food was very fresh and kept coming out of the kitchen as the place was quite full.
Kids loved the pizzas!
However, I was sad to see people wasting so much food, like there was no tomorrow.
Service was great considering it was a buffet set up where only limited service is needed by the servers.
Thanks Kara Mia for such a great Iftari dinner. Posted on September 4, 2009 |

★☆☆☆☆ We went to Kara Mia for iftar in Ramadan, and it was awful. We've been to the restaurant many times before and we've been happy with the food but this time- The service was bad, the food was cold, The refilling of the buffet took 25 minutes, the "prayer area" was the hallway, the buffet didn't even have dessert and to top it all off they over charged us by $40. I recommmed not going to Kara Mia in Ramadan, and if you want to, do yourself a favour and order off the menu and double check your bill. Posted on September 2, 2009 |

★★★★☆ Considering this place serving Halal food, I must say that Kara Mia has been my choice of dining with family and frieds. From their appetizers to their BBQ T-bone steaks, and all the way to the cocktails, every item has a great taste. I might agree on the fact that on few occasions the steaks did not taste as good as everytime I've been there, but overall a place I'd recommend to go to. Posted on June 9, 2009 |

★★★☆☆ I last visited Karamia last week with a group of friends. The restaurant was nicely decorated and the service was very quick, but I must say that I was disappointed with the quality in the food. Like the location in Vaughan, the quality of the food has deteriorated since they first opened up a few years back and its very inconsistent. Ive eaten many many times at Karamia and I probably wouldnt eat there again. Posted on March 2, 2009 |

★★★★★ Menu Choices and Quality are Excellent and unique to a halal restaurant. Delicious Entrees and Desserts. A great place to take the family out.
The service can be improved, but appreciated the Head Chef / Owner venturing into the dining area and getting feedback (almost every single time I have been there).
Recommendation:
- Peppercorn Steak
- Chicken Parmesan
P.S. And now they have specials during the wkdays, with an Entree & a salad or dessert. Posted on February 5, 2009 |

★★★★★ Prayers have been answered ! Finally, a high quality halal Italian restaurant in GTA. The food is excellent, the service is great, the ambiance is amazing. I just hope they don't take their customers for granted and deteriorate on quality as many other halal restaurants do. The presentation of the food is also quite impressive.
The mouthwatering steaks are to die for !
Definitely recommended. Posted on December 28, 2008 |
