★★★★★ Ma's House is affiliated with Ma's Chinese Islamic restaurant in Anaheim and they serve halal Chinese cuisine. I've been a huge fan of their food ever since the predecessor to Ma's, Jamillah Garden was open in Tustin. I was ecstatic to hear that they had made their way to south Orange County. They are located in a strip mall near El Torito and Trader Joe's, near Laguna Hills mall. Daily lunch specials start at $8.50 and come with soup, egg roll, rice and an entree. I came here with some co-workers on a weekday and we decided to order family style from the regular menu.
Thin Sesame Bread with Green Onion ($12) - Ma's serves up 3 types of bread. Green onion pancake (paratha), thin sesame bread with green onion and sesame bread with green onion. My favorite is the thin sesame bread. It tastes incredible with the sesame seeds and green onions. The dough is soft and each order is freshly baked and takes about 15 minutes to make.
Orange Chicken ($13) - The orange chicken here consisted of crispy chicken, chopped scallions, dry red chili, and a tangy orange sauce. This was one of my favorite dishes here and a popular dish with my co-workers. Each bite I tasted was perfectly cooked and had the right amount of crispiness.
Garlic Jalapeño Chicken ($13) - This dish consisted of stir fry chicken, fresh garlic chips, jalapeno slices, scallions, and a spicy brown sauce. For those that like a little bit of spiciness this dish is sure to please.
Kung Pao Chicken ($13) - This dish came with diced chicken, roasted peanuts, scallions, dry red chili, and kung pao sauce. It was a little plain for my taste buds and I would probably pass on this next time.
Cumin Lamb ($14.50) - I really enjoy eating lamb dishes. This dish came with cumin-rubbed lamb, chili pepper flakes, and was topped with cilantro. It was my favorite dish and extremely aromatic. As soon as the dish was brought to the table I went straight for this dish as I couldn't resist the smell.
Honey Walnut Shrimp ($15.50) - This has been one of my favorites as well in the past. However the portion size was smaller compared to the other dishes. It consisted of lightly crisped shrimp tossed in a creamy savory sauce, and honey glazed walnuts I liked the sweetness and crunch from the walnuts as well as the light batter of the shrimp.
Sweet And Sour Fish ($15) - This is another favorite of mine and consisted of a thick battered sole filet wok-tossed in tangy sweet and sour sauce, bell peppers, onions, and carrots.
Beef Dough Sliced Chow Mein ($13.50) - I hadn't tried this dish before but one of my co-workers wanted to order this. This consisted of knife cut noodles stir fried with napa cabbage, carrots, bean sprouts, scallions, egg, soy seasoning. The noodles tasted great and went well with the beef.
Egg rolls ($6) - This consisted of a serving of 4 crispy veggie egg rolls. A sweet and sour sauce was provided along with some dijon sauce. This makes for a great appetizer.
Steamed rice ($1.50) - This includes a single serving of steamed white rice. With the noodle dishes we hardly touched the steamed rice.
Overall the prices are a little on the higher side but the food tastes great. I would recommend getting their very reasonably priced daily lunch specials ($8.50) which are served from 11 am to 3 pm. The thin sesame bread is a must here. It's a unique dish that one won't find anywhere else. The cumin lamb, orange chicken, and beef dough sliced chow mein are just some of my favorite dishes here and are the main reasons while I will look forward to coming back here again and again! ★★★☆☆ I'm glad that there's finally a halal Chinese restaurant in South Orange County. My family and I always loved driving to the sister location in Anaheim, and the Anaheim Mas I still contend has some of the best halal food I've ever had. While I'm glad this new place has opened, it's not as good as the original Mas. It's fine, it's good, but it doesn't blow my mind like Mas and Nomad. Still, for people living in South Orange County, it's a blessing.
Also, one of the below reviews says this place is closed. It's true this place temporarily closed a while ago, but it is now definitely open. Posted on October 12, 2019 |

★★★☆☆ I have tried them 4 to 5 times, not because the food is amazing but because I live close by (in RSM) and they serve halal Chinese. It save me a trip from driving to Long Beach to eat halal Chinese at Nomad's which is the best Chinese in So. Cal.
Coming back to the food, it is plenty in quantity but extremely bland. You can order whatever beef dish you like from the menu, but if I blind fold you and ask you to sample 4 or 5 dishes ... you won't be able to tell one from the other. The only dish that I would strongly recommend is the Orange Chicken. They have of course good onion fried pancakes or parathas but their sesame bread is not well made when compared to the one they serve at their sister location in Anaheim. There are enough Chinese folks, mostly non-Muslim, that visit this location so the food must be authentic enough but I am not a big fan of really bland food. I always find myself adding extra vinegar, black pepper, Chinese spicy Chili red sauce, salt and Soy sauce on almost everything that I order just to give my taste buds some satisfaction that I am eating food with some flavor.
Overall not a bad place to visit, food is plentiful, the ambiance is nice and the service is a hit or miss depending on who you get. You may get all your food 5 minutes before you get your steamed rice or you may get your spring rolls for lunch, after you have finished your food. Or you may have to remind them that you are still waiting for your soup well after you are done with your meal. So this is a hit or miss. Not too high on my list of places that I yearn to go to when I am hungry. Posted on January 26, 2018 |

★★★★★ I like food from ma's islamic Chinese, I am so glad they opened close to my location.
This was amazing!
Just about everything that we ordered was delicious.
We ordered orange chicken, 3 flavor spicy fried rice, chicken chow mein, hot and sour soup, and green onion pancakes.
My favorite out of all of these dishes...the orange chicken. They had a lot of good meat on them. And they didn't taste to much like an orange, which some Chinese restaurants do. I liked spicy fried rice so much as well.
Oh, we also had honey walnut shrimp. It was also amazing. And I feel like this was the perfect honey walnut shrimp that I have ever had.
Hot and sour soup...best I have ever tasted. Posted on November 13, 2017 |
