Mozambique offers Orange County's top-ranked wood-fired steaks, fish and seafood as well as sumptuous brunch on weekends, and happy hour every day of the week. Mozambique is inspired by the flavorful food, bold spices, and spirit of South Africa's colorful seaside restaurants. Many of the signature dishes utilize the little-known South African pepper called Peri-Peri, discovered by Portuguese sailors. Added on May 18, 2021 and last updated 3 years ago

★★★☆☆ The location and ambience of this place is definitely five stars. You can sit atop the roof with an ocean view, and it's pretty spectacular. Very cool that they have a separate halal menu. I tried their peri peri chicken as an appetizer, and that was good. As a main course, I got their hamburger, which was awful. The burgers were the worst I ever had, and to add insult to injury, they're ridiculously expensive, at over $20 a burger. We went with a group of five, four of us got burgers, and two in our group actually sent the burger back to the kitchen as unedible. I ate my burger, but definitely did not enjoy it. I've never tasted more bland food. We told the waiter the burgers were completely unseasoned, and after checking with the kitchen, he told us that the halal hamburgers are not actually made on site. The restaurant buys pre-made patties, heats them up, and serves them. Really, pretty unconscionable for a place that charges over $20 a burger. I would give the burger one star. That said, again, the peri peri chicken was good, the seafood is good, and for a place with halal options, the location is unparalleled. I would go back here for the location and to try other items (they also have halal rack of lamb), but I would never order the burger again. Posted on September 20, 2021 |

★★★★★ I have only tried them twice, and got nothing short of excellent service and food. The wait staff was amazing and they did everything that we asked them for and promptly, although the place was packed.
They also have a separate full halal menu. unfortunately they also serve alcoholic drinks at this establishment.
I have tried their peri-peri Chicken as well as the peri-peri Shrimp. They were both very flavorful. For dessert, we ordered their bread pudding and chocolate Ganache and they were quite good as well.
Their location is excellent and you can also dine at the rooftop and enjoy views of the Pacific ocean and PCH at Laguna Beach.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Posted on May 18, 2021 |
