★★★☆☆ Typical Bay Area indo-pak restaurant, biryani, kabob, Haleem, naan, some salans/curry and Nahari and chai with some green chutney and sauce, but a lil better ambience then some of the others that carry similar menus and decent food

★☆☆☆☆ we have supported this place from day one that opened. actually i was the first to comment on them by stating, "the thing wrong with this place is that there is nothing wrong with it!" but the quality of food and service has fallen dramatically.
we were just there 2 weeks ago and one item(a non-spicy food for a 4-year old) that was ordered until the rest of group arrives took more than 40 minutes and several notifications to prepare and serve.
then our main food which was an order of 4 rice, 4 garlic naans, 4 chicken tikka masala, 4 kabobs was only served with ONE(1) item!!!! i then asked the waiter for the remainder of our order after our group quickly taking a bite of the one order while waiting for the rest to arrive. he told me that he had gone by the ticket and that was the order!!!!
i told him why could he not use his intelligence and see for a group of 6 people such an order would be quite unlikely. he became defensive, but NOT rude! him and the manager were simply DEAF to what we had to say.
the rice that later brought was cold and most likely old. we complained about the two plates of rice. he went back and put it in microwave!
i kept impressing on the deaf manager/owner who apparently has bought the place from the s.f. location and now have separated their own ways that i did NOT want any discount or free food. i MERELY wanted to be brave enough to admit series of mistakes they made and ascertain that such errors would NOT occur again. but again and again, he could care less.
we made a vow not EVER go to this place again. i called and talked with the s.f. owner who confirmed the above and admitted their separate entities.
if you want to go somewhere that APPARENTLY sells halal food but the place is disgustingly dirty, filthy and coupled with very very very poor service and unacceptable food quality then go there!!! we go out very often and spend a lot of money in our outings for QUALITY food that is halal but NEVER i twice i would give in to such abusive low class level of food just because it is halal. ★★★☆☆ It's a great place to get some good Pakistani food.
It's always packed and food is consistently good. The decor and ambiance are fabulous for a Fremont Pakistani joint. This may be one of the nicer places, although you still have to order at the counter and seat yourself.
If I had to make any suggestion to this establishment, it would be to set yourself apart from your competitors. They have an upper hand on the food. You have an upper hand on the ambiance and facility. Up it a notch and make it a true wait-to-be-seated restaurant. Fremont could use an uppity Pakistani restaurant. Posted on September 18, 2013 |

★★★★★ Food is great and comparable to Pakwan and Shalimar. Try their kheema naan, chicken jalfrazi, and tandoori items. Tea is complimentary. Prices are low. Posted on December 22, 2012 |

★★★★☆ I have eaten here a couple of times. Most recently was a few days ago. I ordered the Chicken Tikka, Naan, and Tandoori Fish. The fish was really very good. This is the second time I ordered this and it was delicious both times. The place is very clean and they offer complimentary tea which is a very nice treat. The order taker was inundated with a bunch of annoying old women but he still was very polite and took my order. The salad bar was pretty much empty but that could have been because of this group of about 40 old women who were there and were just going nuts over everything. Posted on November 10, 2012 |

★★★★★ This is THE BEST PLACE YOU WILL EVER EAT. absoulutely clean and organized. Very friendly people. I have been going here since it opened. The owner is really really nice. Soo much better than dirty shalimar or pakwan. Food is delicious! Very fresh and clean. Posted on August 11, 2012 |

★★★★☆ Parking is tight - there's nothing the owners can do about that, but be prepared to park some distance from the restaurant. If you're there at night, be aware that the parking lot is almost pitch black. This could be a safety issue. There is also a Hooters next door, so the folks in the parking lot can be in a different mood than you are.
The restaurant is clean. Very clean. It's nicely set up, and it's one of the best informal restaurants I've been in.
The ordering process is haphazard. You order at the front, but there will often be other customers up front paying. Stuff gets missed, and it's just... unpolished in that regard.
Food was very oily. Onions were not fried enough.
Pitcher of water was provided, that was nice. At no point did anyone ask how my food was. At one point, one of the watistaff just grabbed a chair from my table and took it. They didn't ask, and it decidedly changed the mood at the table, as it was again, unpolished. (when I'm at a restaurant, the table becomes MY place - I'll gladly give up a chair, but just don't take it).
Payment was accurate, and quick. Posted on July 15, 2012 |

★★★★☆ pretty nice ambiance, not a nice location though, right next to hooters, but definitely a lot more cleaner than other Pakistani restaurants which is a welcome change, food is almost as good as Pakwan though not as cheaper, but its definitely worth a try! Posted on April 16, 2012 |

★★★★☆ Although the food is excellent, I thought a review was worth submitting due to the service. My family just had a graduation party of 25 people and the staff was very friendly, patient, and accommodating. Posted on June 7, 2011 |

★★★★★ just plain awesome...prefer this place to Shalimar because Chutney is at least clean! Posted on November 30, 2010 |

★★☆☆☆ Clearly, my experience at Chutney's was very different from the other raters. First of all, they were nearly out of everything we tried to order. Instead, they kept insisting we try the fish. I told the guy that I don't want to eat fish at a halal restaurant. Someone from our party who had eaten here before stated that this place also ran out of a lot of food when they visited last time and that the guy at the counter kept insisting they order the special for that day (presumably because they had run out of most everything else). I was not impressed by the Kababs. All I could taste was the spice and not the meat. The chicken tikka masala was ok. Lots of other choices in Fremont. Posted on October 29, 2010 |

NR Currently the best paki food in the Bay (still not shalimar in San Francisco in the 90's quality) but they have something that other Pakistani joints don't - cleanliness. Besides that they have one of the best dishes available - dum biryani-- it's the biryani of the hyphy movement-- go dum! Posted on August 12, 2010 |

★★★★★ Chutney's is currently my favorite Indo-Pak Halal spot in the Fremont area, and in recent years a lot have opened. What I like is that besides having friendly and prompt service, the place is clean and nicely decorated. The Chicken kabob wrap is pretty good value for money. Posted on June 8, 2010 |

★★★★☆ Went here for the grand opening a few months back. Owners are well known Muslims. The food was pretty good. Service is friendly. Interior decor of the restaurant is pretty good as well with some booth seating along the perimeter. Posted on March 27, 2010 |

★★★★☆ I went here about three weeks ago. What I ordered: (Chicken boti, Seekh Kabob, Chicken Tikka Masala). Before I begin, I refuse to abbreviate Chicken Tikka Masala to CTM because the dish is so great that it's worth writing and saying the whole name.
Back to the review: The food was substantially good. I found the chicken tikka masala to be 'spot on' to what it should be. Other restaurants get the taste and smell, but Chutney gets the sauce just right; it's more of a creamy look, but it doesn't show any signs of oil (all mixed quite well) present. The chicken boti and seekh kabob were also well done.
The overall experience: I really like what they have done with the place. They adhere to the simple Pak/Ind restaurant style (open space with tables throughout) with less room for detail. We come for the food and the simplicity and I'm glad they didn't overdo the ambiance. All in all, a definite place to go and try out. Posted on February 10, 2010 |
