NR This is one of my favorite Mediterranean places to eat. I have to drive from the Valley (60 mi) to get here and I always order their Rib-eye entree done - Medium. That is my go-to dish hat I always get. The place has a warm feeling to it from the ambiance and to the staff who are Turkish which makes this place even more Authentic! It is great for single, business, and family diners. The food is great and taste fantastic from their stews, entrees, and everything else. My husband and I were greeted and seated and served with bread and a sun dried tomato olive oil dip. Try not to get full on that! There are several servers on the floor so you never have to wave your hands in the air like a monkey for attention. They're always looking your way and come by to make sure you are alright, but not in your face too much either. The owners are three Turkish muslim brothers who have been in the tourism industry for years so they understand customer service very well and how to make sure their customers are happy. We ordered Fanta and water which came in jumbo glasses, which I loved. All kabobs are very good, but I'm not much of a fan for their stews. They lack a lot of flavor. They have an area to pray in for one person at a time and also it is best to call them during busy times to get a table reserved. I got 2 lunch specials, mixed salad paired with Adana chicken, and baba ghanouj paired with Turkish gyro, it came with bread and thinly sliced mixed vegis, delicious. They also gave me four sweet dumplings - don't know what they called- for 8.99 each special. Baba ghanouj, superior, Adana chicken nice and moist. THE COFFEE complementary with yelp check in, had me speechless. So very good. I savoured every sip. My order was a take out, it dint take them long really. At first they served my coffee in a fancy Turkish cup; but I was in a hurry so I asked to have it to go; they were nice about it. I asked the manager or owner if he did not mind me taking pictures for my yelp review, he said not at all, and asked me if I knew about this app -zabiha- thanks to him now I do:). It came with some mixed veggies I think and I ordered the baba ganoush with it. It also came with chocolate pudding. The service was very slow however. The second time I went was after the lunch crowd, again slow service. I ordered the same dish but the kebab was more dry this time. I dont recall the third time what happened. I like the pita in oil here but the service time needs improvement. Everytime I have been there it takes a long time for a waiter to come to my table, even when there is hardly anyone there. The food was delicious, my husband and I had the Sigara Borek (a fried cheese roll) which was superb and decadent. Following that for our entree we shared the Grill Mix which had a sampling of four types of meat, sautéed vegetables, pickled cabbage, and rice - the Doner Kebab was by far our favorite. Prior to our appetizer hot pita and oil with sundried tomato paste and rosemary in olive oil was served and additional bread came with the entree as well. ★★★★★ Hands down THE best place to eat Turkish food in California! From the moment you walk through the door, you are met with an incredibly hospitable staff. They are always smiling, asking if you need anything more and are very professional. The restaurant itself is impeccably clean, and is perfect for meeting with friends. I've already been there several times introducing many of my friends to Turkish cuisine and they've loved it. So once you're seated at your table, you will be served oil with spice and bread. Their bread is to die for! I was ready to pack a few bags to take home with me. I'd recommend trying their appetizers, especially the babaganoush, and salads. Once you've finished the appetizers, you'll already be full on delicious food but there's no way you'll say no to the main dishes. My favorite was the Shepherd Casserole; lamb sauté with vegetables, made to perfection. It's even better than any I've had in Turkey! There's always dessert, but if you're ready to call it quits after the rich selection, do try the Turkish tea or coffee to complete your full Turkish experience. I'd question the judgment of anyone who has complained about Istanbul Grill as they offer the tastiest Mediterranean food at the lowest price around. Make no mistake, this is not a fast-food place but the prices are lower than any restaurant I know. But I suppose what I love the most about Istanbul Grill is that it's my home away from home. Close your eyes and you're transported to the Bosphorus in a single sip of your tea and conversations can go on for hours as you experience the authentic hospitality of the Turkish in Fountain Valley.
