★★★★☆ PRICE-- about $30-35 A PERSON!! 2/10 rating from me!
SETTING-- 9/10, formal and professional. bit smallish.
FOOD-- 10/10, everything was outstanding.
LOCATION-- 6/10, close to other places, kinda.
AVERAGE-- 6 or 7/10 (the main thing that lowers it is the absurd price.) I'd go there again, but Only because it is halal.
DETAILS-- 'Halalness' is sadly not advertised anywhere on menu or in store, but when called in advance, they assured us they were halal Zabihah, and when we showed up they again double assured us they were halal. The owner helped us in and I asked "is the halal menu different from the regular menu?" She replied "no, I make sure ALL my meat is halal." Yay for me :)
Also we chose this place as it was the only halal restaurant in the area (new port beach area). We were tight on time.
So we sat down, to discover their "entree" is just a cereal bowl amount of stew. The end. What?! No rice, No bread, No salad, No anything. So it's not really an entree. Just stew. If you want anything else, it's on the side and pricey too.
Stews ('entrees') high $20s, plain white rice $6 (other rice is in the 10s), Salads in the 10s, Plain boring soda was $4 I think. Pretty much to have a plain meal of stew and rice ONLY will be AT LEAST $30 (no drinks or salads, soups, anything). So a meal for two will be at least around $60.
With that said, I will put out that the food was PERFECT. we tried salad, two stews all of which were amazing (to me). That fact made it a lot more easy to take the silly pricing/system of organizing meal (bare bones, one by one style).
I was very shocked at the store, but we just swallowed the price tag as a 'nice night out' thing. If it was just me by myself I would've totally walked out.
Their decor is cute and worth it. They've made it look like a pricey place too :-) Well, Enjoy!! Posted on June 12, 2010 |
