NR @Bandung, " While it is not haraam to buy products from non-Muslims it is however haraam to support people whose religious tenets are openly hostile to Islam and Muslims"
It is not a small thing to say something is haram while it is not. Please inform me where in the quran and sunnah does it say you cannot trade from the one who has hostility towards islam. The prophet (allayhis salat wassalam) used to trade with the jews while he was fighting them, if thats not hostility what is? As for those saying halal meat this and that I know i signed up here to look for places with no alcohol but why is everyone looking so deep into whether the food is halal or not? Surah maidah ayah 5 Allah (subhanahu wa ta'ala) tells us that today he has made the food of ahl kitab (meat) halal for us. The prophet (allaihis salat wassalam) once received some meat from people who had just reverted and aisha (radhiAllahu 'anha) asked him we dont know how they have slaughtered it, he replied to her and said say the basmallah and eat. The principal from this as said by the scholars of islam is that we do not ask and search for it as the jews do as is the story of the cow in surah al baqarah. As well during khaibar the prophet (allayhis salat wassalam) ate the roasted sheep leg that was given to him by the jews in which it was poisoned. Even after knowing it was poisoned he did not rule that one cannot eat from them and as well did not ban eating or trading from those who are hostile towards you, so that defeats two points in one. The "zabiha" industry is in it to make money. You see these halal meats in the market that cost $17.00kg while in the same grocery shop they cost $8.00 and less for a kg. These cows are not even different cows then the rest they are steroid, growth hormone fed cows that eat their own dung so why is the meat double the cost? Just for saying basmallah on it? Very odd. ★★★★★ There is no PORK on their menu.
Food is super fantastic and very reasonable priced.
If someone is doubtful of their Halal meat, go to the court.

NR Please dont rely on TAKETOMI owners etc. We confirmed from BASHA Foods and they dont sell any meat to TAKETOMI.
They also sell PORK (http://www.fivestarcalgary.com/taketomi/menu.html) and I cannot trust anyone selling pork, can sell Halal food.
I went there and now i regret, hope Zabihah can do due diligence and/or readers confirm when they go next time. I wont go ! Posted on June 13, 2012 |

★☆☆☆☆ It is extremely sad that Muslims have become some of the most ignorant, simple minded and foolish people. Here you have people who are clearly not Muslims and the gullible Muslims are fattening their pockets. While it is not haraam to buy products from non-Muslims it is however haraam to support people whose religious tenets are openly hostile to Islam and Muslims. I am not saying all sikhs are bad people but the tenets of their religion are openly hostile to Islam. On another note, if one looks at the criteria to take ones testimony it must be from trustworthy, righteous Muslims, clearly there is no one it this place that would fit that criteria.
The Prophet, Allah's peace and blessings be on him, and the righteous salaf were very careful of what they used to nourish their bodies.
Please be mindful of what you feed your families. Posted on April 2, 2012 |

★★★★★ I often go to this restaurant and my family & I love it. They have showed me their Basha halal certification on a previous occasion when asked if the meat was actually halal. There are two owners, one chinese & another indian. I like the service & food. Whenever I am at the restaurant there are many many muslims there as well. I am sure these fellow muslim brothers & sisters have also done their homework in regards Hakka's halal authenticity. Posted on January 30, 2011 |

★☆☆☆☆ Interesting comment about Pork. When I was there last time, I went through their printed menu and did not see any pork listed. Will check again on my next visit. The food tastes good and price is very reasonable.
I've also come to know that the owner is a Sikh and you should know that Zabihah/Halal and Sikhs don't go together. Everytime I asked for Zabihah meat when I was there, those Chinese girls took out a Superstore-brand frozen halal meat from their deepfreezer and show it to me to convonce that they use that meat. I wonder if they've kept only one storebrand piece of meat and show it to every customer cuz it's normally expensive in Superstore than to purchase it from a local desi shop and when compared with their food item prices, it doesn't make any sense.
I'll be curiuos to hear someone else's comments on it. Posted on October 2, 2010 |

★☆☆☆☆ I'm going to keep this review as level-headed as possible because all I want is to get the message across.
As the previous owner said, Taketomi Village is owned by a Sikh owner. As he/she also mentioned, Sikhs take open umbrage to Halal/Zabihah - as with other specifically Islamic things, it is banned to them because specifically because it is an Islamic practice.
The damning thing is this - I'm a Pakistani Punjabi guy and I mix pretty well with my Sikh friends and even speak their kind of Punjabi well. And I know the owner and his family. And I have overheard the owner _actually mock_ the Muslims coming there to eat Halal Chinese when it's 'just from Safeway'.
He also said :
1. the reason they serve alcohol when it's supposedly a restaurant for Muslims is so Sikhs can eat there too.
2. 'why the hell would i have halal' meat, he said, when that means Sikhs can't even eat there?
It's extremely shocking to have someone like this taking advantage of our community in Calgary.
Stay away from this place. It's s restaurant run by a cunning businessman whose pseudo-Japanese restaurant failed (yes, that's why it still has a Japanese name - sadly, Taketomi is actually a beautiful, serene village in Okinawa), and who decided to take on the Halal market instead. Except he decided to do it through exploitation and lies.
The other reviewer wondered whether they always pulled out that same ZamZam chicken for display purposes. That about sums up what this place is - and the above explains _why_.
Do not go here and be exploited. Posted on September 24, 2010 |

★★★★★ They have some really good dishes on the menu. And they do serve pork, as shown on their menu. However, they claim that they will use halal meat if you let them know when ordering. Chilli chicken is one of the best i have had in a very long time. Posted on April 25, 2010 |

★★★★☆ Not everything is halaal so make sure you ask. We're happy that there's finally a hakka restaurant in Calgary. We like the general tso and chili chicken the best. The chili chicken is definitely the spiciest we've ever had at any hakka location! Ask them to make it milder if you can't handle a lot of spice. Posted on April 4, 2010 |

★★★★☆ Since this is the only halal chinese place in calgary, we go there often. Food is above average. They need to do a better job of cleaning the place. Posted on January 25, 2010 |

★★★★☆ I went and asked for the Halal food and the waitress showed me the frozen zam zam chicken. I dont know they used it for my food or not but she told me that they will serve me Halal food. But I am not sure about the beef. So please make sure you told them that you want Halal food and I am not sure they use Halal beef. Posted on October 30, 2009 |
