★★★★☆ This is a Bengali restaurant serving primarily Bengali and South Asian-Chinese cuisine. Located on busy White Plains Ave, street parking is available, but parking can be tough so leave the 1971 De Tomaso Pantera at home. The restaurant has enough seating for 50-75 people is definitely family-friendly. While the decor is, er, minimalist, this restaurant focuses on food, not ambience. Its customers are mostly the working-class immigrant Bengali families of the Bronx. Here, your English is a second language. The service is a bit scattered and chaotic, but well-meaning so go along with it. The menu ranges from a standard South Asian menu (samosas, chicken tikka, kababs, curries, bhartas, biryani, naan, parathas, etc.) to American fast food (fried chicken and seafood, hamburgers) to South Asian (Desi)-Chinese (fusion chicken and beef entrees, seafood, noodles, fried rice, etc.). While Bengal is decidedly carnivore-centric, vegetarians will be able to fill up here.
This reviewer has been to this restaurant once and ordered the vegetable chow mein ($8) and chicken chili onion ($8). The food was excellent. The chow mein was freshly-made and toothsome with flavorful vegetables and without the weighty-greasiness one might expect. The chicken chili onion consisted of fried chicken with vegetables in a heavy sweet-sour sauce.
Overall, an excellent restaurant, but not quite at the top. An easy 4 stars for quality and 4 stars for value. Posted on August 11, 2014 |

★★★★★ Excellent Asian style cooking. Good customer service. I'm a regular. Never had a bad meal. Ask for special Chicken or goat Biriwani and halal pizza. Well worth it. Posted on May 18, 2012 |
