★★★★★ Most halal restaurants I've been to in the US tend to be 'hole in the wall' places or just not very classy. Rus Uz is an exception. From the decor and lighting to the dessert tray they bring to help you select dessert, everything is classy. The food is also pretty good. As someone from Pakistan, with some acquaintance to Afghan food, Rus Uz cuisine seems familiar, yet distinct.
As a guide for someone fro desi background, the combot (soft drink) reminded me of a traditional herbal sherbat from Pakistan and the plov felt like a delightful cross between palao and zarda. The samsa was similar what we would call patties at a bakery, though the meat was cooked differently.
Overall a great experience. Posted on April 18, 2017 |

★★★★★ We went to Rus Uz to try the Russian Uzbeki food--because it was halal. This was our first adventure into Eastern European Cuisine and I am glad we took some friends. The food was wonderful and unique while the service was amazing. I would definitely go back again.
Food was similar to Afghan food and not very spicy. Many items are lamb based.
The decor was wonderful and they were accomodating for prayers. Posted on July 18, 2013 |

★★★★★ The food is excellent. I recommend the Lagmon for appetizer, traditional Plov for entrée and Manti. Enjoyed the ambiance and service. Beware the Parking is difficult in the area. Posted on August 25, 2016 |

★★★★★ The food and ambiance was excellent. Had the manti, which is similar to Afghan mantoo but with a distinct Central Asian taste. Reminds me of meals I recently had in Kazakhstan. The laghman soups were wonderful, and they feature Russian & Uzbek soft drinks for added authenticity. Highly recommended! Posted on May 9, 2016 |

★★★★★ As soon as we entered the restaurant, we were blown away by the decor. Very elegant and tastefully decorated, definitely ideal for couples.
The server was a very nice gentleman, and assured us verbally that, "Alhamdulillah", the full menu is halal. Although the restaurant does serve alcohol, you wouldn't know it, because the alcohol is nowhere in sight, it is hidden behind the bar.
We tried to sample unique Uzbek dishes from the menu, and ordered the Caviar tart, "Fish Under Coat", and the Uzbek Plov. The food was made with a lot of care and attention, and it tasted amazing!
Our favourite was the Uzbek Plov, the closest dish I can compare it to is Kabuli Pulao. I also liked the "Fish Under Coat", which is a mix of herring and potatoes under a coat of beet, carrots and other root vegetables. All our dishes were beautifully presented. One has to appreciate food that looks as beautiful as it tastes.
Lastly we ordered the Kiev cake for dessert. It was definitely made on the same day, the cream and pastry tasted very light and fresh. Not to be missed!
I encourage all couples looking for a halal restaurant with a touch of European flair to give this restaurant a try, you won't regret it! Posted on May 23, 2013 |
