★★★★★ I must ask the previous reviewer if he goes into as much detail about the small disorganizations of his own life as he did with this muslim person that is at least trying to serve you halal food?
The reviews are supposed to be about the food not if the woman greeted you or if the tables had some dust. Man and to add to all your sour complaints you backtrack and say you will visit the place again??
Sounds like you have OCD. Nothing to do with how good or not this restaurant is. Posted on August 21, 2013 |

★★☆☆☆ I got so happy when I found out that this place has Qabsa and Mindi. Something that is missing from majority of the Halal Mediterranean restaurants menu interestingly. This place is run by the entire family I think. The daughter is doing the waitress/cashier job and the dad does cashier only. Mom is in the kitchen with some other guy to cook of course.
I arrive at the place to get the take out menu first to see other items and the prices. This place has 2 sitting areas as soon as you enter. On the right side, you can either sit down and eat just like a traditional Arabic way or there are table and chairs to the left for standard sit down eating.
There was no greetings from the girl at the counter. On top, she had no idea what take out menu was. I had to ask 2 times before she got it somehow and to my surprise, told me that they don't have any take out menu! I took the regular menu which was extremely dirty and got a sharp surprise immediately when I looked inside.
Everything in the menu was in Arabic beside the price and the heading of course! On top, there was no description of the items. Since all the food are Arabic named, I had no idea what they are and what comes in it! What in the world owner is thinking? He think he is in Arab country? Even if it is an Arab country, common decency would be to put everything in Arabic and English so that non-Arabic speaker can enjoy as well! Another surprise I saw was that even the road signage outside the restaurant was in Arabic! Again, how a non-Arabic speaker would find this restaurant if they want to come over? Anyhow, the owner told me that they are updating the menu and I told him to please put everything in English also.
Both the owner and the girl have limited English. My wife asked thrice for the garlic sauce and still the girl did not understand what she was asking for! Finally, we just surrendered.
Anyhow, of course I ordered Mindi and forcefully had my wife ordered Qabsa thinking that it will be really good. Unfortunately, I was wrong and really embarrassed in front of wife at then end. Before I get into the taste, let me first talk about the dirtiness and service of this restaurant.
Extremely poor service and very dirty restaurant to dine in. There were all kinds of different dirty tables and chairs, that owner probably found at the garage sell or something, set up to sit on. Seems like tables were not cleaned in ages as the top were oily, sticky, and greasy. To my surprise in the evening, bunch of small flies have appeared on the unseated tables mostly because of the dirtiness. On top, we waited almost 15 minutes just to get the menu even though the girl clearly saw us sitting and waiting. Restroom was dirty too! There were paper products everywhere and guys were easily using ladies room right in front of me.
My wife's Qabsa was no where close to how it supposed to be made. The rice, chicken, tast just everything was wrong with it. I also asked the owner more than 2 times if the chicken will be rotisserie to which he acknowledged, however, the end product was a grilled chicken! It was very dry and not tasty at all!
My Mindi was much better than the Qabsa but it was not that tasty. Just alright and I will definitely not try that in the future. It did have enough meat though. I really liked their red sauce. It was the only thing that was good.
Their platters are no way big enough for 2 people! It is just good for 1 person. Prices are typical Anaheim restaurant price. Not very expensive but not cheap either.
No body bothered to check on us while we were eating. I did notice bunch of Arabic guys coming in and out to eat. Most likely because of the floor sitting arrangement and the unique Arabic menu items not available anywhere else. This is most likely why the owner doesn't care in terms of basic customer service and is very laid back because he is already in a good financial shape with the current condition just with those constant traffic of Arabic guys!
Yes, everything on the menu is Halal. according the owner.
I may go here again only to try the other authentic and unique Arabic food items, which most likely will be to-go order. Posted on June 4, 2013 |
