★★★★★ During my university days I went to MAS Catering which provide the food for MAS for my Operations Management project. I went for tour INSIDE MAS Catering twice to view the catering process and it was stringent. All staff has to wear protective head cover. The kitchen is clean. I watched the chefs cook in the kitchen and I believe the food is STRICTLY HALAL. MAS is the only airline I know that actually "samak" the used utensils using dirt & water via special machine. I'm sharing this information for the whole world to know as not only the food, but the utensils used must be purified as well according to Islamic laws. After visiting, I have no doubt whatsoever. The specialty food is SATAY..must try if it is in the menu..The menu changes every now & then. Posted on May 11, 2011 |

★★★★☆ Salam,
I've had international and domestic flights with Malaysian Airlines, the crew are genuinely helpful. Food is good (it gets better in business/first class) and better than a few other International and local airlines I've flown with. But like some previous comments, I have doubts with all the cheeses and bread (unless you can talk to their caterer and get the brandname) esp. when the flight departs outside Malaysia. And, people would still fly MAS if they doesn't serve alcohols, it's the smile and hospitality that counts. Posted on December 4, 2009 |

★★★★★ This review is probably biased, but I will not beat around the bush. I am a Muslim Malaysian living in the US. I think Malaysia Airlines do serve good food overall and this is in coach/economy class. I am very sure that the food will be much better once you go into Golden Club or even better, First Class. Most of the reviewers gave good reviews and there are also others who gave bad reviews. I can only say that you only write based on your experience and that is fair, but I am also entitled to assume without prejudice that things like not getting a certain meal or not getting a bassinet could mean that reservations were not made in at least 24 hours in advance. Like any other airlines, it is only fair that you do you part in order for them to do theirs and in the case of Malaysia Airlines I can safely say that 99% of the time these requests will be honored. The lacking 1% is due to the fact that I have seen a couple requesting 2 bassinets for their babies just before boarding and the flight did run out of bassinets for coach passengers. I myself had to change seats just so that I don't interfere with the children. I am aware of the codeshare deals e.g. between Malaysia Airlines and Air India and perhaps if you have special requests in the MH leg maybe you should talk directly to them to avoid problems. From a Malaysian's standpoint, MH employees tend to favor foreigners more than Malaysians for reasons that I do not know, perhaps for good business image. Nevertheless, MH serves Halal food for all sectors and provides prayer areas in their widebody aircraft, and they go to most major cities in the world, second only to Emirates. Some cons: The KUL-LAX sector uses the old 747 fleet and they tend to be cramped in coach. I also hope that MH will start phasing out alcohol since it is in fact government-owned. Ticket prices can also be slightly higher compared to other airlines depending on how and when you make your reservations. But rest assured, the food will always be tasty and most importantly Halal. ★★★★★ Always fly with MH for long haul flight SIN-LAX. Foods are excellent and cabin crew aer helpful. Can't complain as you don't need to request for Halal food at all compare to other airlines. Posted on October 3, 2006 |

★★★☆☆ Amsterdam - Kuala Lumpur with MH in the middle of 2003. The meal stated as all halal, but we were given a little cubic shape of Gouda cheese as a snack. It's a dutch cheese. We didn't eat it, because as far as we know, most of Dutch cheese are non-halal. They use rennet made from a slaughtered animal. A lot of webpages have written about non-halal cheese, esp. Dutch cheese. So please be careful. Even though they can prepare halal food, some items that they buy from other source are not halal. Posted on April 18, 2006 |

★★★★☆ All food served is Halal on Malaysia Airlines. If you requested special meal when making advance reservation make sure to check again when you confirm your flight at least 24 hours prior to departure time. Child, Kosher, Hindu or special medical meals can also be requested. I travelled roundtrip economy class LAX-KUL but food was okay although the fried noodle dish was a bit crunchy. My 2 yr old toddler loved the child's spaghetti dish served in a laptop style box. Children's meals are served first so they don't have to wait too long to get their meals. Overall I was satisfied with the food. Posted on March 6, 2006 |

★★★★☆ Amsterdam-Kuala Lumpur flight. The meals are halal, no need to worry, as Malaysia has quite a strict law in terms of halal food. However the service left a lot to be desired. I wondered how they could have been awarded the Best Cabin Crew? maybe the good service is only for first class flyers. Posted on November 23, 2005 |

★★★★★ Malaysia Airlines is the best. Once during ramadhan, the stewardess asked me if I want to fast the next day. She woke me up for "sahur" and I got a really good food then. Servoce ... A+++. Great Job Malaysia Airlines. Posted on October 10, 2005 |

★★★★☆ They are not consistent with their service and infrastructure to certain parts of the world. They use very old fleet when connecting flights to Indian destinations. And service is so and so...Nothing special to talk about. Posted on September 28, 2005 |

★★★★★ Malaysia Airlines have consistently been voted as having the best service (and that includes the food) among all international airlines. All food on Malaysia Airlines are certified 100% halal. That means that Muslim travellers get more choices as every menu option is Halal. From personal experience, I feel that the food (depending which city it originated from) ranges from above average to excellent - but NEVER bad. On long haul flights, they also provide additional snacks on request (e.g. on First Class US flights, their noodles are superb!). On some flights (I believe on Boeing 777s and 747s) they also provide prayer mats and a small prayer area near the exit. On such flights, prayer directions are also provided on the entertainment screens. Their award-winning Business and First Class lounges in Kuala Lumpur and major cities are superb and very stylishly designed complete with ample prayer room, ablution facilities, Al-Quran and good selection of Halal food. I would rate Malaysia Airlines as the Number 1 choice for discerning Muslim travellers. Posted on August 6, 2005 |

★★★★★ I've always flown on Malaysia airlines for I need not worry about halal meals. They allow menu choices as well. If only i don't have to be awakened so often for the many meals. But again the food is delicious so who cares :) Posted on February 27, 2005 |

★★★☆☆ I just travelled fron US to Dubai the food going to Dubai was good but on the way back it was pretty bad the one problem I had with them is the quantity it is not enough for an adult, especially on a straight non stop 15 hr flight. Posted on March 31, 2004 |

★★★★★ I flew with MH from Tokyo to Kualalumpur than to Jakarta and vice versa. It was a very nice flight, the attendants were very friendly. I was traveling with my 2 years old son and the cabin attendant were all very helpful. The food was also OK and like others said we do not have to worry abut the halal-ness of their food. The also provided their passangers with a praying room. Posted on March 30, 2004 |

★★☆☆☆ The food is halal but they do serve alcohol to those who want it. The service from New York to Kuala Lumpur left a bad taste in mouth, after repeated reminders to book child meals for my son they failed to do so and we had to buy McDonald's in Dubai at the stop but it had made the flight very difficult (having a hungry child does put a damper on things). But on the way back they seemed to have better supplies and attitude for that matter. Posted on January 18, 2004 |

★★★★★ I've always travelled MH as far as possible. You don't have to request for halal food as u can be assured that all food served is halal. I find the food tasty enuf, tho I'm no food connoisseur. Food variety is good; not just mid-eastern or asian fare which u get when u request for halal food like on most western airlines. Posted on January 10, 2004 |
