NR When I arrived there I had doubt and I asked the staff there if the meats are zabihah halal. He clearly mentioned meats are not zabihah halal but they have vegetarian options. This listing should be removed from the list. Posted on April 27, 2017 |

★★★★★ This is a hole-in-the-wall take-out halal Middle Eastern restaurant serving falafel, shawarma, kabobs, lentil soup, and more. There's no room to sit. The restaurant is located in the tight quarters of Greenwich Village, so you should probably leave the Chrysler Turbine Car at home. The falafel ($2 for 3 pieces) is above average though not exceptional. The chicken shwarma plate ($12) is excellent, though best eaten hot. Overall, an excellent place for take-out and open late until 5am. Posted on December 10, 2014 |

★★★★☆ Very good chicken shawarma! Not the kind of place you really sit in; there's basically no room. Expect to wait in line for a while as well. Prices are decent though, so it's worth it if you've never been here before. Posted on August 14, 2013 |

★★★★★ The original Mamoun's location, and first falafel restaurant in NYC. Mamoun's has been featured in the book "1000 Places To See Before You Die." The falalfel is amazing and the lamb shawarma is delicious. Check out our full review with pictures here. Posted on July 10, 2011 |

★★★★☆ I dont know about the people who are saying it is not Halal but my friend and I asked the guy at the counter if everything is Halal and he siad Yes. Thats verbal assurance from the person behind the counter, he could have said no and i would have bought the falafel and no meat, but he knew what halal meant and he said yes.
BTW, the food is amazing for the price. although the price of the meat sandwiches have gone up to $5. the Falafel is still at $2.50, up from $2 back in the days. Posted on January 6, 2009 |

★★★★★ great falafels, and they cut up the falafel rounds so that your not trying to ingest a 2X2X2 round all at once. Other than that, it seems the meat is not halal. I had asked the place across the street if they (Ali Baba Falafel) were halal and they man said no one in this district (including Mamoun's) can afford to carry halal meat so if someone is tellin you they are halal, they're not. At least he was honest. Sorry folks, no shwarma. But the falafels are pretty good, only $2/each!! & good bakhlava Posted on August 5, 2007 |

★★★★☆ Great food for very cheap prices. Place is opened late. We went there around midnight and our food was served within seconds. Not really any room to eat inside so I'd recommend this place for a quick bite on the go and a definite must for anyone on a student budget. Posted on August 29, 2006 |
