★☆☆☆☆ First their chicken isn’t certified. Then, they think anything can be called Chinese. Therefore they decided to start selling under Chinese brand. Third, they think customers are stupid and wouldn’t notice food staleness. Last, they messed up the order, and upon driving back, telling them how they gave us wrong order, they still charged the original order. Would you believe that? Horrible food, horrible service, and horrible taste. Never go there especially during COVID, and NEVER for Chinese (which is more like raw onion Punjabi tikka mixed with rice or tomato ketchup). ★★★★★ I am surprised why did I never go here earlier. I have been living in Bay Area for 6 years and have almost tried every place around but never been to chandni before. One reason also being the really low reviews on Zabihah which are suprising to me.
Anyway, me and my wife went here today for the lunch buffet and it was amazing. The paya was out of this world. I can go on and on about the paya. It had the perfect spices, oil and taste. I have gone to buffet at other places in East Bay just for the paya and have been utterly disappointed with the oil. I have been trying to find a good buffet place and I think Chandni beats all the places hands down. I walked in to find just 1-2 tables occupied which came as a shock. Comparing this to the brunch competitor in Hayward that is always packed and feels suffocating, not to forget the extremely oily curries which I personally cannot eat more than one teaspoon each, I would highly recommend this place. ★★★☆☆ I have eaten here quite a bit. Their buffet is average. The food tastes OK. The service is good. We have catered several parties here and they have been ok. The bathroom are clean (at least the men's). I hate the noise coming from the kitchen area...you can hear pots and pans flying around as well as workers talking loudly or singing. It would be nice to see a little more variety on the buffet menu. Posted on November 9, 2012 |

★☆☆☆☆ I am Pakistani and I've been to Chandni so many times I cannot count, for grad parties, weddings, buffets, etc. When I was in LA I also visited its sister restaurant. In fact I had my wedding reception here, hence the one star.
We went to a similar restaurant in Pittsburg to see if we wanted to hold my reception there and then we went to Chandni. My parents chose Chandni based on our previous experiences and based on the buffet food we ate the weekend we employed their services.
First thing first, I wasn't super excited, when we walked in and said we wanted to talk about throwing a reception here, we were told we had to wait until the bosses, or whomever handles that part of the business came back. Guess where they were, eating brunch right next to our table, super professional, no? Couldn't they have talked to us while we were eating, wouldn't that have been a great opp. for them to show they were eager for our business?
Anyways, when they were done eating and ready to talk to us we all walked into their office, love the super huge TV that takes up so much space that there isn't seating room.
When we walked in, we were there first, waiting to talk to someone about throwing my wedding reception here, but the people who walked in right after us were not only served first, but we were told we needed to wait outside while they were served. Excellent customer service, right, I think not and typical desi (btw I can say that because I am one). Don't serve the people who were there first, but those who are the most pushy, awesome!
Then my parents, uncle, my siblings and my fiancé and I, the people who are the most imp. people in my life sat down and talked about the services, the menu, amount of food, latecomers, cost, when the money was due. We liked some of the things we ate at brunch that day so we made sure to include them. My parents signed the contract and we were set to go.
Based on the size of our party we we given the room in the back and in my opinion it was one of the better looking rooms. The ceilings and overall look of the place is not super classy, wish they would make some much needed renovations.
Anyways everything was set, then it wasn't. First we had a date by when we needed to get the rest of the money in by. We got a really rude phone call weeks in advance demanding the money, super professional right? (The only reason I am stressing the profession thing is because on their website they stress that they are "stylish professional service...." what a joke!)
Then comes the actual wedding reception day, loved reading salat to the crazy music that you could hear through the walls that was going on in a different room. Also they were latecomers (Pakistani standard time) and we were told they would be served appetizers and they were not. In fact the staff refused to even though there was enough food to serve them. Also the potatoes that I was so looking forward to were not there even though we specifically requested them. The rest of the food mediocre and cold. They also made a super huge fuss when we insisted we take home the food we paid for, but didn't eat, imagine that!
The cake table a joke and the decorations cheap looking, cheap fabrics, cheap fake plants and cheap lattice ceilings. Honestly, save yourself the trouble and cater your next party at the restaurant in Pittsburg that we passed up. Interesting story, the girl who did my makeup was right across the street from Chandni and she was going to her cousin's engagement party there the same day; telling, no? Posted on January 13, 2012 |

★★★☆☆ I've been to this place tens of times over the past decade. At times, the food for the catered events are very average. I've also been to weddings catered by Chandni, at which the food was terrific. I've only been there as a paying customer a couple times, but I noticed the food to be much better on these instances. Varies between 2.5 and 4.5. Posted on September 25, 2010 |

★★★☆☆ I have been going to this joint ever since they opened up back in the late 90's.......I have only been there once as a paying customer, and all other times have been for some type of occasion(reception, party, gathering, etc.) The setting has improved and while I feel it is okay for community events I don't feel it is a great place for a weddings. The service it terrible as many waiters are rude and can barely speak English. The food is average because it is very oily and the menu has not changed over the years...... I would recommend the establishment to really update their items and change the image of the place. Posted on July 20, 2009 |

★★☆☆☆ the waiter that is on your behind the second you walk in is annoying, and chases their customers away. he will literally stand there until you step away from your plate, and TAKE your plate away, even if you're not done! i mean COME ONNNNN cant we eat in PEACE?!!?!
and the food is not all that great anymore. they are more for making money and the look of the area than the quality of the food. Posted on August 21, 2007 |

★★★★☆ Went here for a wedding this past Saturday and both the food and interior decor has greatly improved since the last time I was here. The owner is very nice and friendly and he is a regular supporter of Muslim organizations and events. If people don't like the place, they should buy their own place and see how difficult it is to run a large banquet hall. He is providing a good service to the community, so the least we can do is support him and encourage him to do better, instead of always complaining about everything all the time! ★★★☆☆ This is a regular for fundraisers- at those times the food is subpar. Why anyone would have a wedding there is beyond me. My friend and I enjoyed their $10 dinner buffet including some really great tea. How do they make tea like that? Posted on April 13, 2006 |

★☆☆☆☆ Do not reserve this restaurant for a recepton, party or anything, I hate this place they almost ruined my wedding day. Mr. Khan booked my party in his book and then I guess erased it and then booked another party on the same day as mine and then we had to go else where. We only found out a few days before the wedding reception. It was extremely stressful and they at first were very rude and did not want to help us until we threatened to sue. ★★★★★ I recently visited Chandni with some friends and was pleasently surprised by the quality of ambience, food and service. My friends who go there frequently (even for weekday lunch from Office) were all praise for the environment and said they had their office colleagues join them for working lunch at Chandni due to not to spicy food and excellent Naans!
I am hooked on Chandni! Posted on August 1, 2005 |

★☆☆☆☆ Hmm, attended a party last week, invited by some Sikh community friends. The place was serving beer and liquor. Couldn't understand what was going on. On the other side of the hall, a devout Muslim family with scarves and beards and on this side, we were sitting with alcohol being served.
Please bang up on the owner to fix this for his own benefit. Or openly publish the alcohol menu without hiding it behind the bar counter.
The regular meal for our party was non-Halal. So I went to the Halal buffet food in the other section; didn't like it at all. Posted on November 30, 2004 |

★★☆☆☆ I recommend eating at Chandni under one and only one scenario, i.e., all other Desi restaurants in the bay area have gone out of business. I cook myself, and know the difference between fresh and baasi--Food at Chandni tastes "recycled". To become a "full service" restaurant, they need to start selling over-the-counter medications for controlling heart burn, diarrhea and dysentery. Posted on December 29, 2003 |

★☆☆☆☆ "Worst experience I ever had! It was my friend's Nikkah. We went to Chandni before that. We were 3 families (about 13-15 people). We had buffet which looked and tasted okay. But after we returned, I started having stomach problems. My wife had vomiting in the morning and she couldn't eat anything for the whole day. Ny friend went badly sick and he has taken 3 days to recover. I called all other families who were there with us and it happened to all of them! Not even a single person was okay." ★☆☆☆☆ "I just attended the Abrar ul Haq show there last weekend. I just want to say that the restaurant is very filthy, especially the bathrooms! My parents and I were thinking to hold my sisters wedding there, but after tasting the food and presentation, we'd rather choose another place. When are Indian and Pakistani restaurants going to begin to learn courtesy and cleanliness? By the way, the rice gives you a stomach ache, and the chicken they serve is all bony, what happened to the meat?" Posted on August 20, 2001 |

I am are very upset on how we were promised to receive the hall by 12:00 PM and got it at 3:30 PM. We had to rush and put up our decorations. They didn't do what they promised, they should fear ALLAH (SWT) The Chandni staff is terrible! They do not help, and say that they know nothing about anything! I have reported them to the BBB! I caution all readers to think twice before booking any event with them! I will continue to disclose their service to as many people as I can!" Posted on August 20, 2001 |

★★☆☆☆ "My parents held my nikkah ceremony there last month, and had been promised to receive our reserved section of the restaurant at 3 PM, didn't receive it till 4:30 PM. Then when dinner was served, the food was ice cold, most of the guest were pretty upset, and then drinks were not served well, and most of our guests didn't even get dessert. Worse, we ordered Biryani as one of our buffet items, it wasn't even there, they served us some other type of rice concoction. The person who took our party order, was so worried about whether or not he was going to receive a tip or not. Even worse, they had a big screen TV, placed within our reserved section. Do the owners and workers of this restaurant not carry any formal etiquette? By the way, try calling there for directions - they can't even speak Urdu or English. How do you communicate to such rude people?" Posted on November 6, 2000 |
