★★★★★ It was our first time coming to Chicago and out of the 4 nights we had, we ate dinner here 3 of the nights. The food and service especially was very good. Everything we ordered was very good, the nihari, haleem, and chicken tikka. Nihari was the best!! The service is so fast, every time we ordered we got our food served to us about 5-8 minutes after we ordered no matter how busy they were. Best food and best service, feels like fine dining experience and good prices too. Don't forget to try the ice cream and falooda! Posted on July 31, 2016 |

★★★★☆ UPDATE: Went here again after almost 8 years and the Nihari is still very good. Also had garlic naan (was good) and mango lassi (also very good). The only complaint i have is that our bowl of nihari had very little meat in it compared to others that we saw going to other tables. In fact one table next to us (white people) had much more meat in it and when we complained to the waiter and staff, they just told us to order another bowl, which we did not do. They recently renovated their restaurant so it looks better inside.
Sept 4th, 2007 - Went here during ISNA convention and it was packed! The wait was not that long however, as they move people in and out pretty fast. The Nihari was very good, but note that it is pretty large and 3 people can probably eat from 1 order. I agree with some of the previous reviewers that the waiters are pretty fast, and thus may come off as a little rude as they want you to get out fast. But the service is fast and you dont have to wait very long for your food, which is a plus. Posted on September 10, 2015 |

★★★☆☆ Sorry to say, the food quality has gone down, compared to what it used to be 8 years ago. We ordered Nihari, Naan and Biryani. All were average at best. Seems like the owners have lost their focus on the taste and quality of the food and are getting distracted into decor and PR campaigns. Decors, media hype don't run restaurants, the food taste and quality does. Please bring back the original Sabri Nihari !!! Posted on July 27, 2015 |

★★★★☆ I would give it between a 3 and 4. Very good service, clean atmosphere. Food was good, not exceptional, though not bad at all. We had nihari, karahi goshth, mixed grilled plate and chicken biryani. Nihari was good, but very lil meat; same thing with chicken biryani. Karahi goshth looked like it had tomato paste, not fresh tomatoes. Best item was grilled plate, though they could lighten up on the oil. Naan was very good. Overall a good experience. ★★★★★ In my opinion this is by far the best Pakistani restaurant in Chicago area in terms of food quality, taste and customer service. I have been at this facility numerous time and every time the food has been of great consistent quality. We have been very pleased with their service. Food wait is very short and well made. This place is very busy but the customer service is awesome. I highly recommend this place. Posted on March 3, 2013 |

★★★☆☆ Went back to Sabri after 6 years. New place , better ambiance , clean bathrooms and better silver ware.
However food is still the same average product. Now every thing else is fixed so its time to improve the food. Namesake Nihari needs to be fixed first and then any thing else. It needs more flavor then spices. Posted on January 7, 2013 |

★★★★☆ Overrated Nihari. Lacked the Aroma and smoothness of a well made Nihari. The Brain Masala was just ok. Tarka Daal and Mutton Karahi was pretty nice. The greatest part was probably the ambiance of the place which is one of the nicest I have seen in a desi restaurant. Hopefully we caught them at a bad Nihari day and it'll be better when you try it :) Posted on December 23, 2012 |

★★★★★ My parents have been going to Sabri Nihari ever since it first opened, probably before I was born. It's honestly the best desi food I've ever tasted. I've tried their pasanday, nihari (obv), seekh fry, seekh kabobs, chicken boti, chicken makhani, and it's all great. Just make sure you use tons of lime on everything lol. I mean, it's good without it, I'm just sayin cuz lime just makes it snapp that much more. Posted on July 3, 2012 |

★★★★☆ We went to this restaurant on busy Sunday before memorial day and it has changed a lot even since the renovation. The ambiance is very relaxing but the overly crowded chairs clinging to each other babies crying like no tomorrow picture can take out the fun out of any meal experience. I wish the restaurant would be a little more spacious but you can't have everything I guess.
The food now is very good. I did Chicago Illinois for this Nahiri, and it was very good. The portion size was very good too and the flavor was balanced with the right amount of thickness to the meat. There was a lot of oil floating on top but I like to believe that that is the marksmanship of a great dish perhaps..:) the other dishes, the grilled sheek chicken was perhaps over priced and deffintely over rated on the menu the way it was described.. I didnt really get the flavor either. The frontier chicken was flavorless and a bit sweet for me with the added onions and finally the biryani was very bland as well...
The cleanliness of the entire restaurant is very good especially for being a desi restaurant up in Devon. Though every now and then you will find the friendly servers touch your plate from the middle or pull out your glass by touching the inside of the rim...it will still be a lot cleaner then most of the other places on Devon..
It's a good restaurant but then I guess I would go there only to try the nehari again if I willing for another round of little kids crying. Posted on May 30, 2012 |

★★★☆☆ First and foremost, I would have to say, that the food here is not so great, they need to bring the quality of their grill, their rice dishes and gravy dishes up to par to their by far one of the best neharis. This place serves one of the best tasting nehari dishes I have ever had, aside from a place in texas I enjoyed just recently that may top this places nehari. Besides that, I believe this place has so much potential to be the best place in devon. The service was great, place is spotless, and the portions were unbelievably large, with a moderate price. I would definitely come back here for their nehari, but they need to work on their other foods. Posted on January 7, 2012 |

★★★☆☆ So after the experience at Gunda Nawas oppse i mean Bunda Nawaz of Lombard (please see review) we decided to take a long drive in to the famous Devon street. After hearing soo much hype about about Sabri having great nihari, I beg to differ, It was OOOOK, along with it we ordered Seekh Kabobs. One thing I dont understand how do the Places figure out thier portion sizes. I mean we ordered nihari and seekh kababs, it was only me and my wife, the amount of nihari we got could have fed atleast 5 people, and as for the size of the kebabs they were too little for the money.
I am not sure about its past days but it most certainly isnt anything to rave about. Food is OK. Posted on May 27, 2011 |

★★☆☆☆ I've never understood what all the hype about this place was about. There are restaurants on Devon that are far better than Sabri Nihari. The nihari is greasy at best, and tasteless at worst. Their Frontier Chicken is bland as well, without a lot of flavor or spice. Portions are good, but when the food is not flavorful, what good is it to have a good amount? ★★★★★ AOA everyone, i was in chicago for 2 months and tried all the restaurants on devon. Out of all of them, Sabri had the most consistent service and food. The place is not that expensive usually about $8-9 for a dish but its worth it, because YOU WILL have leftovers. One dish can be shared by two. The food was good, try the nehari, chicken karahi, and biryani, haleem was also good. Do not try the butter chicken/ chicken makhani, it was not that great. The atmosphere is great very nice for a desi restaurant. Posted on June 27, 2010 |

★★★★★ First of all this place is not expensive at all... I don’t know why it has been categorized as an expensive restaurant… me and my wife had Nihari, frontier chicken and Naan for under $20… and the portions are big…We brough quiet a bit leftovers home…
Secondly, if anyone doubts the quality of food, my suggestion is just go there once.. people don’t pack bad quality restaurants… This lace is always full.. there are other restaurants on Devon ave, but none is as packed as Sabri… Just walk 2-3 blocks and you will know what I am talking about...I have friends in NY, CA, VA, IN and other places and when ever I mention my trip to Chicago, they only ask me one thing “Did u go to Sabri Nihari”.. this is how popular it is… Must try the Nihari and Frontier Chicken… Posted on April 12, 2009 |

★★☆☆☆ Sabri Restaurant has terrible service, and average food. Our last visit on New Year's eve was a typical one for this restaurant. We took some visiting relatives and the restaurant was packed. We were told the wait would be 20 minutes.
45 minutes later (and I'm wondering why we're still here) we were seated one 2 separate tables. 2 people had no tableware and had to ask a passing waiter. The food came out in spurts and no one checked to see if we needed anything (naan, extra anything)
The food (nehari) was average as well. Even a novice with Shan masala could cook up this sort of nehari, without the aggravation.
I wouldn't visit Sabri unless absolutely have to. In the past year, our 2 visits to Sabri have both been with out-of-town visitors. People seem to like it and I'm sure there is some positive. I just don't see it in this restaurant's food, service or ambiance. Posted on April 10, 2009 |

★★☆☆☆ Sabri is a restaurant I would definitely not recommend to anyone unless it is one of your last options. My recent trip confirmed the restaurant’s distaste. My visiting relatives and family went to dinner there and almost all of us were disgusted. Many of the plates on the table were dirty. We had to ask for new ones. The new plates were wet, leaving us to believe that the dirty plates were simply rinsed and returned to our table. The glasses were the worst part; they had lipstick marks on the rims. I highly doubt Sabri has a high-powered dishwashing machine, let alone any type of machine to wash dishes or linens. It makes me wonder what the kitchen looks like—as unsanitary as the dishware? The food was okay. We can make better quality food at home. The waiters seem too busy to listen to what you are asking for. We asked for forks, we got spoons. We asked for kulfi without the sweet sauce and “noodles” and guess what? We got all of them (five orders) with the sauce and noodles. The waiters are also running around with plates stacked in their hands, a terrible mistake they are making. I am sure they are breaking some sort of city code in Chicago by running like that. I advise Sabri to open their eyes to these little negative aspects; people might actually enjoy eating there if the ambiance was toned down and tables, glasses and plates were clean from the start. Sabri is definitely not a good value for the money. Posted on January 9, 2009 |

★★★☆☆ All in all the food was good to decent. My wife had the keema naan which was average. I had the mixed grill with naan which was good. We also had samosas which were very good. The restaurant could be cleaner though (why are halal restaurants soo shabby in Chicago?) The next day, I developed terrible cramping and diarrhea (but I guess for some people, gastroenteritis is part of our desi culture). I hope they dont lose their permit...... ★★★☆☆ I was visiting from California and ate at this place. The environment was ok. The waiters kept coming back every two minutes to ask if we need anything else which forced us to leave as soon as we were done. I don't know if it was a tactic to limit your stay there as apparently it was pretty popular in the neighborhood. I can not say that it was the cleanest restaurant I have ever been. We hesitated to touch the salt and pepper which changed color and had even parsley/cilantro on them. The restrooms could use a little more cleaning too. Posted on January 7, 2008 |

★★★★★ I am not a muslim so my review would not offer any insight into Halal and such aspects.
That said, I had discovered Sabr Nehari (by accident) 7 years ago and consider it my best discovery yet!! This is the standard by which an Indian/Pakistani restaurant ought to be judged. That is subjective of course but the the food here is not only delicious but also fresh and hygienic - you don't leave feeling yucky! It is rich though, if you are looking for something healthy then this is NOT the place :)
I also find this place cheap - well again that is subjective. I have eaten at Garib Niwaz down the street and would say you get what you pay for - below average food which may be a good option when the others are shut. Having also eaten at some other fancier places in Devon (India Garden, Viceroy, Tiffin etc.), I always come back to Sabri coz it is reliable, consistent and satisfying to the pallete and heart :)
My only complain would be the service - it is superfast no doubt but the waiters tend to be a little impolite and don't take too favorably to someone who spend a good amount of time over dinner (they want you to finish up and vacate soon). Posted on August 16, 2007 |

★★☆☆☆ The most over-rated Pakistani/Indian restaurant on the planet. I say that with some reservation, however. I have been going for years, and it used to be good. I stopped going, but went again last month to their temporary location while they renovate hoping that things had improved. They have not. One of the two brothers who started Sabri moved to Houston, and started a Sabri there, and that restaurant is pretty good (I have never been to the one that used to be in Dallas, but it closed down, so you can imagine that it was probably as good as the one in Chicago is right now). But, if you go to Sabri in Chicago, it is all about the name. Their old restaurant was dingy, dirty, and the staff was rude. They are renovating that, so it may be better, but they also need to renovate the staff. The food is average, there is better nihari on Devon, and the grilled food is generally either just seasoned in chilly pepper, or leftovers fried in butter. I am always surprised at the crowd outside the restaurant. I have learned that it is mostly out-of-towners who know of the place by reputation (if you go during ISNA expect to wait an hour or more for a table). Maybe 5-7 years ago I would have said this is a must go, but as of now I am saying try some of the other restaurants on Devon. If you honestly think Sabri is good, then some other restaurants on Devon will blow your mind away, just eat around. Posted on April 19, 2007 |

★★★★★ I have been going to Chicago off an on over the last year, and this is by far the best halal restaurant in the city. As advertised, their nihari is sublime, but their murgh makhani, karahi chicken, chicken tikka, all are outstanding. The karahi gosht is the only thing that wasn't great. The mango milkshake is excellent and it is all fairly reasonably priced.
I have brought friends there before, both desi and white Americans, and it has been universally loved. Recommended very highly. Posted on July 2, 2006 |

★★★★★ AOA
I visit Chicago every year, at least once, if not many more times. I make it a habit to visit new restaurants on Devon Street, and by far in all my 6 years this is the BEST. The absolute best. Beats most restuarants that I visited when in NYC. The food is in great portions and the prices are resonable if not good. The best Nehairi in the world (minus a very good restuarant in Pakistan). It was EXTREMELY busy when I went in, all tables were full. But I was seated within 15 seconds of entering and food was served suprisingly fast. I will make Sabri Nehari one of the few restaurants that I shall return to. Posted on April 10, 2006 |

Allahamdulillah our family enjoyed Nihari, Sabri Chicken, Sabri booti, some dishes for kids. Faloodah and Qulfa were excellent. I have noticed two things Chicken Tikka was not tasty as is should be like other dishes. The Bathroom was not clean at all. They should re-think about remodeling the bath rooms. This will be a great family restaurant. Wassalam: Fayyaz! Posted on October 7, 2005 |

★★★☆☆ I visited the place on Friday, it was unbelievably packed, wait about an hour, seeting your expectation to be considerably high. Though I enjoyed food, I would recommend Usmania over Sabri in all dishes. As for the Nihari, it is not the greatest by far, it was simply OK. Shalimar of San Francisco by far serves the best Nihari. ★★★★☆ I tried a few places on Devon and this is by far the place to eat. Food is good. Good family sit down restaurant. I wish they would use white meat only in the chicken dishes but they include dark meat as well. Waiters could make ppl feel more welcome. Butter chicken is a good dish. The Faloodah is excellent. Restroom could be cleaner and more accomodating. Overall, a good halal Northern Indian place to eat. Posted on June 11, 2005 |

★★★★★ The best restaurant on Devon! It has got lots of good dishes to choose from. My personal favorites are their sabri nehari and their frontier chicken and boti kabob. Also try their mango milk shakes and the kulfi and falooda. The waiters there are very respectful and the place is clean, spacious and well lighted. Posted on March 22, 2005 |

★☆☆☆☆ If you are going to eat at this devon establishment PAY IN CASH, because i charged my card for the $35 meal, and they CHARGED IT ILLEGALLY 4 TIMES in addition to the ONE i had signed. It is such a shame to see fellow muslims acting so DISHONESTLY! astaghfirullah. Posted on December 21, 2004 |

★★★★★ Sabri Nihari, without a doubt, is one place where everyone should eat that. I love the frontier chicken and Aloo parathas. Their guest service is awesome and the waiters are pretty good looking. Posted on July 8, 2004 |

★★★★★ The Frontier Chicken rocks!! Try the paratha instead of the nan for a different taste. The service is friendly/ helpful / and quite attentive. Ask for "Tahir"- the manager, and ask him about his bodybuilding experience.... Posted on December 25, 2003 |

★★★★★ If you want your money well spent, this is the place to eat. Each and every time I have been to this place, food quality has remained high and food is tasty. Only restaurant beside J.K. Kabab House where you feel your money was not wasted. Posted on July 18, 2002 |

★★★☆☆ This place really looks hot from the outside! I think you opinion about my word is that I am a critique and putting things low. I am sorry but I am not so. The place is really awesome from inside too. The icecream and lassi place and the dinning place as well. The guy or the owner there, the big hunk who has contacts to make him look like Hrithik, he actually does not do the work. ★★★★☆ "Any Halal restaurant gets an above average rating from me, the food was good (i didnt eat any of the india/pakistani food. I was travelling from Minnesota to NY/NJ with eight kids and my wife. We found the restaurant by using the internet to the local ISNA bookstore (excellent) and the brother in the store recommended Sabri Nehari's Restaurant. We had cheeseburgers and chicken fingers with fries and excellent mango shakes. The atmosphere is one a pretty decent restaurant, complete with rap/islamic/indo-pak music (blah) newspapers of US entertainment figures and the typical clean-shaven waiters." ★★★☆☆ I would say this restaurant is really good, but can't say that with full honesty. I eat out atleast 5-7 times a week, and so am a Chicago connoisseur. Sabri started out a nice place with decent food, esp. for Nehari fans, but concentrated mainly on their Nehari and left other areas to be desired. The same has remained, in fact downgraded esp. if you become a regular customer, they will literally serve anything, fresh or not. This I can say of 100% of the esp. desi halal muslim restaurants in the greater Chicago area, as well as the suburbs. Once they find out that you like their food and want to eat there often, esp. if you're single or a couple, they start to take advantage of you and serve you stale food at the same often high cost. If you want to have really really good food, try as much as possible to cook at home. If you try hard, you can beat all the restaurant chefs!
At any rate, Sabri is one of the still passable restaurants on Devon, but its Lombard suburban location is distasteful as well as the food is not that great. So I suggest avoid Lombard's Sabri and go to Bombay Express or Pita House instead in the Lombard/Villa Park area. They're cheaper, and fresh food is served, more like a halal franchise in a good clean environment. If you really want to go to Sabri, their Nehari has downgraded somewhat, but their chicken makhani is another acceptable alternative. The Charga is plain yuck. Also, $1.00 nan isn't that great to rave about. You can get the same thing at $0.50 at Javed Nehari House (formerly Pakistan House). I'd go for that esp. if I want to cater a lot of naans. To sum up, Sabri, like Sultan Palace, has only a ""big"" name but its quality of food and hygiene leaves much to be desired for a starred restaurant. Posted on November 8, 2001 |

★★★☆☆ Sabri Nehari used to be a top place at Devon last May with its frontier chicken being absolutely delectable. But over the course of the year they have overexpanded and lost their roots. Their quality is now severely lacking as well as their service. Food comes out within seconds leading us to believe it is not fresh. This is a plea for Sabri Nehari to shape up and become once again what it was. They have gone from tops on Devon to well below average. Posted on May 21, 2001 |

★★★★☆ No frills restaurant - but great food, and huge portions. The food is really authentic and rich. The price is also great, and a $1 for naan is definitely worth it. Posted on August 1, 2000 |

★★★★★ Alhamdulilah, it is arguably the best Indian/Pakistani restaurant in Chicago. The nehari is to die for and the frontier chicken and chicken boti are second to none. Out of a high of 10, I give it a 10 for breads and a 5 for circuses. Posted on April 15, 2000 |

★★★★★ "They defineteley serve the most delicious and authentic ""Nehari"" in entire USA. If you are a connoisseur of ""Nehari"" , then Sabri is your nirvana. I've heard they make good ""brain masala"" also. The place is not very clean and sometimes the wait is long. But beleive me the ""Nehari"" is worth every micro-second of wait and every micro-organism of uncleanliness." Posted on August 18, 1999 |
