St Elmos was started in Sea Point in 1987 as the dream of one man, Ian Halfon. Right from the start Ian's restaurant offered an 'indescribable something' which kept his customers coming back. That 'indescribable something' can be found in the mouthwatering pizza and pasta, the excellent customer service, and some closely guarded secrets which the competition has never quite been able to pinpoint. St Elmo's has always been a pioneer in the food service industry, serving up a number of firsts, including: The first home deliveries of pizza, the first pizza slice outlets, the first to introduce gourmet pizzas and pastas, the first to introduce bottomless sodas and family meals, and the first to introduce safety seals. Fast expansion has never been a number one priority for Ian. He would rather have fewer, successful stores than a great number of marginal or poorly performing stores. St Elmo's would under no circumstances subject customers to poor service or indifferent quality merely in the pursuit of growth. St Elmo's mission is to be Africa's leading franchised pizza take-out delivery chain by 2010.
