The owners of this restaurant are Muslim and have confirmed its halal status. Only the lamb is halal; it is purchased from Sam's Club. Ask the person at the meat counter to show you the case that of boneless leg of lamb. The case will have a Halal stamp written in English and Arabic, as well as the date of slaughter.

★★★★☆ I have ordered from Desi Wok to take the food home and eaten in the restaurant many times. I like the atmosphere of Desi Wok and the restaurant is very clean. The food is good, both the Indian and Chinese style. My family and I have returned at intervals to enjoy the food! Posted on December 28, 2012 |

★★★★★ It's so nice to find halal food (thanks to this site) when you're traveling. Desi Wok serves Indian items, Chinese items, and they're packed at lunchtime. The butter chicken and tandoori chicken are most popular, and for good reason. You can't go wrong going here - clean, modern, attentive, delectable (if primarily for the local mixed population), and fast. Posted on January 24, 2012 |

★★★☆☆ On my way back from a road trip, I stopped by for a day in Tulsa and with Zabiha.com - found this place to have a take out food for my family around lunch hours. Customer service staff was very friendly and the place looked very organized and packed with people that tells me they are doing something right :)... Food menu appears to have a diverse selection ranging from some Chinese items, american fast food stuff, and desi menu's..sort of a mix bag or little bit for everyone. Staff assured me the meat is zabiha halal. I ordered biryani, chicken noodles and some rice for kids. I would rate food quality and taste; average. Overall I was happy to see restaurant serving halal food around tulsa area...:)..two thumbs up for owner . Posted on January 3, 2012 |

★☆☆☆☆ ON Aug 5th we visited The Desi wok, wanted some good desi food for lunch, but it turned out to be a disaster of an experience, The cashier was nice and friendly and was the only thing that we liked, ordering was confusing at the least, well finally the food arrived ,(tandoori plate) and (samosas), the tandori ckn was over cooked, dry and taste less, the rice as a side were brittle and dry had no taste at all. Now onto samosas, over cooked , burnt almost, stuffing was nothing more then tasteless mashed potatos in a burnt shell.
We will never visit Desi wok again ever in tulas or anywhere else for that matter. Posted on August 8, 2010 |

★★★★★ I am not of the Muslim religion, however I did not choose to eat at the Desi Wok because of the religious prefrences of the owners or fellow patrons. My sister had some one time and I tried it! I thought it was really good. I have been wanting to eat at the Desi Wok since. I finally made it there this past Friday, and I must say that I am hooked. Once agian I did'nt eat at this place because of cultural prefrences, I ate there because the food is GREAT. I would eat at this place once a week if I could afford it. If one likes spicy food...they have what you want. In closing, I say to the owners of this establishment.....I love your restaraunt! Keep serving great food and I will keep eating it!!! ★★☆☆☆ HALAL WARNING! The restaurant does not advertise as HALAL food.
I was visiting Tulsa on August 2, 2009 and looking for a place that serves Halal. I will add all the pros and cons.
Pros:
* Overall, the restaurant was clean. The dining area was clean.
* The staff appeared friendly.
* The food was not too oily (like some other Desi restaurant)
* The location was in a nice neighborhood.
Cons:
* No signs anywhere that read "HALAL". I tried looking through the menu. I searched the walls for any signs but nothing had any mention that the food was HALAL.
* They do serve alcohol and I could see beer bottles while standing at their counter - they had it hidden behind in a way that while ordering, you can easily see them and order alcohol if you like.
* Food was just OK. Nothing that you'd want to go back for.
* The menu was not easy to understand. They had lots of "entries" with few items listed for main courses. It was spread all over so it was hard to figure out. They should work on simplifying their menu. Posted on August 2, 2009 |

★★★★★ I read the reviews and decided to contact the restaurant and find out if it is halal myself, the owner has confirmed it is halal.
I visited here with my family and once again asked about the halal status.
The menu is good, quite a few choices for veggie options aswell as chinese style food(noodles, etc).
We went ahead and ordered biryani, chicken kadai and kids nuggets. The prices are a bit high and I was hoping the food would live up to the price.
Food arrived it was good!portions were very big,I have a big appetite and only managed half of the biryani.
Service is good and atmosphere is a bit shabby but for the USA I have seen worse.
The food arrived quickly and was fresh and hot.
I will definetly visit here again when I am visiting Tulsa.
I have spoken with the owner and she seems to be a good muslim and well spoken. Posted on July 6, 2009 |

NR Asalaam wa laikum, I am the owner of Desi Wok Restaurant, Labrena Shamsi, and I am a Muslim. Alhumdulilah. The meat at Desi Wok Restaurant is halal and zabihah. I have owned the restaurant since Jan 01, 2006 and I purchased it from a Hindu owner who was serving pork meatballs. I changed the meatballs to 100% beef as soon I purchased the restaurant. Yes, I did change the meat supplier from Dallas, to an Oklahoma supplier. I have a responsibility by LAW to provide safe and healthy meat to the public. The meat from Dallas did NOT arrive at a safe temperature, was NOT delivered on the scheduled days, and was NOT in USDA approved packaging. Ground lamb arrived in unmarked plastic bags. Halal certificates are on file at the restuarant and are available upon request. The halal chicken is purchased from Evergreen, and the halal lamb from Sam's Club. Both are halal and Desi Wok has all documents to prove it. 'Zabihah Halal' is not printed on the menu currently, and it never has been printed on the menu, even with the previous owner. Yes, you will see more local American non Muslims eating in the restaurant than local Muslims primarily because this is NOT an Islamic country. Though I'm not sure how one can tell a non Muslim man from a Muslim man. It must be the big Muslim Sign that Muslim men wear around their neck. Thanks to my fellow muslims here in Tulsa, who have started rumors about the meat at Desi Wok, I now have to deal with this silliness. I make dua for our community. Inshallah, if this Tulsa Muslim community would be as concerned with the words coming out of their mouth, as the food they are putting into their mouth, we would be stronger more united community. If you have any questions, please contact me at the restaurant. Labrena Shamsi Posted on February 2, 2008 |

★★★★★ This place is awesome! It is an order upfront type restaurant and offers delicious Indian, Chinese, Indo-Chinese, Middle-Eastern food for a great price. The restaurant is very clean and professionally decorated and the service is great. Try the Chili-chicken or the Tandoor items. I was suprised to run into such a modern and classy halal restaurant in a small town like Tulsa! Posted on October 24, 2006 |
