★★★★☆ Nice decor. Clean. Food is blend for desi but good part it is not oily. Ordered Agra chicken tikka, trunk burger and chicken roll. Reasonable portion, slightly expensive may be due to location. Posted on February 18, 2018 |

★★☆☆☆ Definitely not for Desi's.
More of an americanized desi food place.
Pros: great decor, tons of screens, great music, branding (straws, bags, napkin, menu), serving size.
Cons:
food (bland but a decent serving size)
Cleanliness (had fruit flies in the restaurant). At the table and at the counter as well. the lady behind the counter seemed to know about it as well when I told her.
Tried the full size naan burger. Chicken and beef.
Crunchy, crispy, bland chicken with cheese (extra $1.50).
Beef was ok too. Half burger with fries would have been more than enough for my wife.
Fries are separate. Posted on May 12, 2017 |

★★★★☆ This is a great restaurant. The only reason I give it four stars instead of five is because the food is a little bland for the desi palette. If they could add even just a couple of taste levels to the existing menu, it would be great. Besides that, everything was awesome, the decor, the service, the presentation and especially the idea of a using a naan instead of a bun for the burger is fantastic. I also like that they have a focused menu instead of a bazillion items you find at the standard desi restaurant.
Overall, I would recommend visiting, even if it doesn't become a staple for the more classic desi taste inclined. Posted on April 21, 2017 |

★★★★★ Chicken is Machine cut, they didn't hide it. So we opted for the Australian Beef and got the Naan Burgers. Let me tell you, it was amazing! We went back there again the next day and it tasted even better. Will be visiting again! Posted on February 3, 2017 |

★★★☆☆ This place had rave reviews, so we were expecting something better. No question that the decor and ambience were great, no dispute there. However, the food was just average. They really have no variety on their menu other than just various types of naan. The naan burger was definitely good, but when you have kids along with you, there is not much to give them. The fries were average and they don't have anything like chaat or samosas. If you are looking for good desi food, this is not necessarily the place. On the other hand, if you want to try something a bit different in a good atmosphere, then you might like it. Overall we just didn't love the food. Posted on January 15, 2017 |

★★★★★ We ate here twice during our stay in DC and wow wow wow! Their Grand Trunk Naan burger is the best burger I've ever ate and I generally dislike burgers. Service was great, ambiance unique. Would go back again and again if ever in DC. Posted on June 23, 2016 |

★★★★☆ The place has over the top, Versace-isque decor. Stopped by since it was highly rated on yelp. The food was ok, a bit too mild for my desi palate. The service was quick and courteous. Posted on June 3, 2016 |

★★★★★ Awesome naan burger and superb ambience. Posted on May 6, 2016 |

★★★★★ Had the NaanBurger. It was juicy and memorable. Also had a sweet naan and washed it down with Trucker Chai. All of it authentic and delish. Owner Kamran Cheema is very kind and friendly. Prices are incredibly low for Penn Quarter. Ambiance is eclectic. No place like it in DC since the historic Myth.com cafe in Georgetown on M Street. If I watched cricket, i would watch it here on one of there 20 or 30 flatscreen TVs. Posted on November 9, 2015 |

★★★☆☆ the decor is nice. that gets 5 stars. finally there is a place that is halal and doesnt look like its about to fall apart. They do need to work seriously on their service and food. the only dishes that are good are pakoras, fries and naan burger. i dont think that will take them a long way. the rest is below standard. get a new chef or train the current one. The quality of service needs improvement as well. i know its a new place and needs time to get used to all the attention but good places survive when they know how to handle large crowds efficiently. please work on it before trying to open at a "new location". ★★★★★ Grand Trunk has so many things going for it--delicious food, big portions, low prices, and an over-the-top decor and ambiance that make it a fun spot to eat and a refreshing change of pace from the chain places that surround it. The fact that their entire menu is halal and they don't sell any alcohol on top of all that makes it a dream spot for anyone who eats zabiha in the area and wants to support a Muslim business. Conveniently located in Penn Quarter (south of Chinatown), it's a really welcome addition to the area! By far my favorite zabiha place in that area.
Some other rare gems--GT has outdoor seating, which is hard to come by in DC. And while I've only been a couple times for lunch during the workweek (so far), they have late hours which can also be hard to come by in the area if you're looking for a restaurant (not a bar). They said their hours nowadays are till 11pm on weeknights and 4am on the weekends.
I've come here with (non-Muslim) coworkers for lunch and we were all thrilled with the food and thought it was a fun ambiance. Dishes we absolutely loved included the chicken tikka masala and the lamb masala. When given the choice between their naan or rice for your entree, I'd recommend the naan (go for the garlic naan with your entree, or they have other specialty naans that can be ordered separately). Their naan is amazing while their rice is good. The daal was great, as was the yogurt dip stuff. The chai (I think they called it trucker's tea) was great.
It's been packed with people who work in the area during lunchtimes, my guess would be it's probably not as crowded for dinnertime as that area is more business than residential.
This is a great spot if you're a local and also a great spot to take your visiting friends/family for a unique experience. Posted on March 31, 2015 |
