Merzi was reported closed or not Halal 13 years ago Merzi was founded by Kaz Kazmi in 2011. Kaz, originally from the UK, found the American dining scene missing something that he knew he could provide: healthy, lightning fast, delicious Indian food. Using family recipes and consulting with premier chefs from around the world, Kaz and his team developed a system that delivers something that's very hard to find anywhere else. We've continued that legacy through the years, never compromising on flavor, quality, or speed, to deliver something unique! Added on December 1, 2010 and last updated 2 years ago

NR Only lamb is halal. Nothing else is halal in here Posted on February 21, 2016 |
Hello! Just an update: while this used to be true, Merzi has since overhauled their menu, and now only sells halal meats (chicken and lamb). Thank you! |
|
|
★★★★☆ Look, the previous reviewer is obviously the owner of Krazi Kabob (which is great, so don't get me wrong). I tried this place one time when we had a battle of the beltway series with the Nats. It is great. Yes only the lamb is halal, so don't come if you don't like lamb.
I of course not being Muslim tried all the options and they were delcious. I also tried the lamb and it is also good. The quality is 5 stars- this is a legit main stream eatery. Not like Krazi Kabob which still has the desi uncle standard of cleanliness. Posted on October 3, 2014 |

★★☆☆☆ Update:
The quality has truly gone down. Merzi used to be an awesome experience. Now only the lamb is halal, but that isn't certain. I would suggest Krazi Kebob instead: http://www.zabihah.com/biz/J6nNuQNd5J
Previously 4 Stars:
Imagine all those psychedelic Indian fusion restaurants that charge $30/pp then circle back to a similar fusion concept...this time at $10/pp and actually decent! Merzi is a great place to take friends and colleagues. The Lamb and Chicken are halal and flavorful and the decor makes this place worthy of being a downtown lunch spot. Posted on December 19, 2013 |

NR Maybe not a halal restaurant???
Employees could not tell us what, if any, meat was halal.

★☆☆☆☆ Empty on a Friday night should have given it away. Food was nothing like you would imagine at a halal desi Chipotle! Ingredients were not fresh or particularly tasty. Lassi was thin and bland. Bad enough that even my husband (who isn't as picky as myself) couldn't finish it for me. Consider yourself warned!! Posted on April 5, 2012 |

★★★★☆ Felt it necessary to post that when I went here last week, I asked what was halal/zabihah (because of the differing posts below) and the guy told me ONLY the lamb, which I got and was pretty decent. Mango Fantango is legit. Posted on October 29, 2011 |

★★★★★ Just go for it,mango fantango was a hit Posted on June 6, 2011 |

★★★☆☆ Not a bad spot for some quick Indian-esque food. Definitely westernized, but it's still good. The Halal options are beef, lamb, and shrimp. The other meats aren't halal, hopefully that will change in the future though. Posted on April 26, 2011 |

|
★★★★★ Definately something that will work. Folks who are not too keen on Indian food can also get along with this. As one of the earlier posts say. Its more like Indian version of Chipotle. Posted on April 13, 2011 |

★★★☆☆ I went for lunch and the food was Okay Posted on March 17, 2011 |

★★★★★ It really is an Indian Chipotle. I was skeptical at first, but I have to admit the concept works. Nicely done! Posted on March 16, 2011 |

★★★★☆ Their Tandisserie Chicken was pretty good.. I had it on rice bowl and with potatoes.. oh and if you go make sure to have their delicioius Mango-Fantango (not yogurt based, rather milk based; ie not lassi) Posted on March 15, 2011 |

★★★★☆ Hot Chicken roll is extremely tasty. Nice, clean environment with fast and friendly service. A very popular place during lunch time. A short walk from Chinatown. I recommend. Posted on January 25, 2011 |
