Busboys and Poets is a restaurant, bookstore and gathering place where people can discuss issues of social justice and peace. Each Busboys and Poets location should enhance the community -- allowing us to bring together a diverse clientele reflective of the surrounding neighborhoods. Busboys and Poets creates an environment where shared conversations over food and drink allow the progressive, artistic and literary communities to dialogue, educate and interact. The menus at this restaurant clearly state that Halal food is served. Owner confirmed that starting November 2010 all Busboys and Poets locations use Halal chicken.

★★★★☆ Ordered Cheeseburger with sweet potato fries and an order of crab grits, to go. Never order the crab grits to go: it's not that they serve you only a bare ice cream scoop's worth. It's not the 7$ tag. It's not the taste, which is fine if not amazing. It's that when they put that tiny scoop in that huge serving cup, your gratitude for your food will diminish.
I liked the burger, cooked to order and tons better than Eli's (Kosher). The SPF were very nice. But restaurant deserves $$ -- lunch menu is not cheap here. $24 for crab cakes, lol @ anyone who calls this place cheap.
I ordered from here because a zabihah-eating friend vouched that the beef is Kosher-sourced and the chicken zabihah. Down sides: you have to pick up your order and pay at the full-bar. Upside/neutral? : the bartender assured me that my food never came in touch with any of the pork the restaurant also serves. Posted on September 11, 2013 |

★★★★☆ Nice ambiance. Clean restrooms. Only chicken is halal. Hummus is pretty good. Not far from metro. Posted on August 7, 2015 |

★★★★★ If you are in DC, you know that this place is legendary. If you are visiting, you must come here. Chicken is halal. Alcohol is served, but atmosphere is family friendly. As of the date of writing this, this is the best halal retaurant on the east coast. Posted on October 20, 2014 |

★★★★★ Really good healthy halal food. Chicken Pannini and Chicken with beans and rice was delicious. Casual atmosphere and wonderful service. My wife and I cannot wait to go again and try some other options. Posted on March 22, 2014 |

★★★★☆ I have been to this Busboy and poets many times and recently for the Domestic Crusaders book tour. I did not know that any of their meat was Zabihah, so I just had a soda to drink. I have had their fish at the other locations. I will have to verify with the staff and/or management if the meat is Zabihah next time. This place is quite spacious (it is 2 stories) and a decent setting. Posted on February 5, 2011 |

★★★☆☆ This place was really busy at lunch time, so service was a little slow. The salads and quesadilla were tasty. Some of the workers did not know if anything on the menu was halal. I recommend checking with someone, i.e. manager or owner before ordering any chicken dishes. Posted on February 4, 2011 |
