★☆☆☆☆ This restaurant is run by Nizari Ismailis (followers of the Aga Khan) from the East African Khoja community. Most of the individuals in this community don't seem to know what halal (or zabihah) food really is (eg. "just pronounce Bismillah over it and it becomes halal"). Based on discussions with a few of them, their Imam (the Aga Khan) does not care if they eat non-halal meat (except for pork) and so they personally feel they are completely free to consume meat regardless of whether it has been cut in accordance with Islamic requirements. In short, the staff cannot be trusted when it comes to administering halal food, and Muslims who go to this restaurant seeking halal food do so at their own (high) risk. I think it would be prudent - at least for now - to not even include this restaurant on this website. Posted on July 14, 2012
★★★★★ Mashallah my first time there and it was definitely a great choice. Food was beyond what I expected. Very flavourful and the staff are so kind! We ordered a mixed dish for two, lamb, beef, and chicken with fries and salad. Meats were grilled to perfection and juicy! Very flavourful as well, just what I expected from african cuisine. The fries were so good too. This restaurant is definitely going to see me again! Recommend to anyone who wants awesome african food.
Side note: eat with your hands, food tastes soo much better!!! and restaurant has convenient sink for handwashing after meal Posted on July 4, 2012
★★★☆☆ The Food is excellent. The owners are muslims and the website states that they only serve Halal food only. The place is a small area so if you have a big party then you probably would have to call ahead to reserve. I found the pricing to be inconsistent. There are some menu items that are appropriately priced and others that I found very high. Posted on July 20, 2009
NR Owner needs a MAJOR attitude adjustment. I called to ask if the meat was Zabihah and the owner was unfamiliar with the word. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and asked if it was slaughtered per Islamic rules and he heatedly declared he got his meat from halal suppliers. I politely asked him for the name of at least ONE of his suppliers and guy threw a MAJOR tantrum saying that I should trust him (a complete stranger) and his flyer and that he would NEVER give the name of his supplier. I stated some others did but he flat out refused.
BUYER BEWARE! MUSLIMS ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK! Further input into this would be appreciated. Posted on November 20, 2008
