★☆☆☆☆ If you are looking for employment, then this is NOT the place to work... at the moment. I recently quit working here and I'm very glad that I did. Also this is a review on what really goes on behind the counter with your food.
When I first accepted the offer that I was given, it was a pretty good offer just a person who works on the "Phone & Cashier" since the General Manager wife doesn't speak English so well and I was good to go with that. I ended up being the janitor, on phone, a Cashier, server, fetcher, and occasionally dish washer (and dryer) after the "interview" for only $7.50 because the General Manager Khalid Jebbar AKA "KJ" thought the lowest minimum wage was $7.50, but it's actually $7.25 for a bunch of things I wasn't told I was going to do in the description of the job.
The job training was horrible the first day I was there for 10 hour with less than 1 hour of training and a whole bunch of hours of working in everything that wasn't in my job description. After 3 more days of horrible training I was expected to know EVERY recipe and EVERY name of EVERYTHING that was on the menu... if you've seen their menu you'd understand how crazy of an idea with the horrible training that I've received. I basically learned a lot of the things that I was supposed to be "taught" on my own.
The food is AMAZING, but chances are that the food you're eating has been either dropped on the floor, made with by a person who isn't wearing plastic gloves (the main cook smokes a lot, and if the other cooks have used the bathroom without washing their own hands, or other "dirty work" you'll never know), no hair nets so you might find hair in your food, or has had flies and roaches that land on it due to the kitchens cleanliness so keep this in mind next time you eat there. The health inspector came in last week and threatened to closed the whole store down since there are too many flies, there's no professional thermometer to keep track of the food temperature so if you get sick from poorly cooked food you'll know exactly who to sue, and the last thing that was the problem was being lazy with the paper work.
The General Manager KJ swindled me out of a lot of my training hour money and his excuse to why makes no sense, he swindled a WHOLE paycheck for about 33 hours after begging me to stay extra hours including my WHOLE day off, so while he was out literally partying I was working some crazy 12 hours shifts for that week covering for him. I am OSHA certified and I've got a certification in knowing my rights when it comes to working, and I've got enough proof to turn in to get more than just my paycheck the to the Virginia Labor Department and my situation meets every required expectation for a report. The only reason why I haven't turned in the report is because he's the General Manager, but his wife owns everything. His wife has been very nice to me and has given me free food, and for that reason turning this into a big case isn't worth the effort. Almost everyone I've worked with in that restaurant are really nice people.
I have a disability and I am able to present papers that allow me to have accommodations that allow me to work slower than expected, but the expectations of working at this job are too fast and are at a reckless pace because there aren't enough people who are working at that restaurant so it's understandable to why things are always rushed, but the business pace is too slow, there have been days where there have been less than 10 customers walk in and phone calls so there's no need to rush especially since I've been told that I'm not getting paid for nothing repeatedly so with slow business and nothing to do at times doesn't taking my time make sense?
The General Manager constantly attempts to embarrass me infront of customers, always making unnecessary provoking comments, and it's really irritating. I sent in a 2 week notice and with that request came a lot of negative treatment from the General Manager with comments like "You were already heading that way", but that doesn't make sense since he was requesting more hours out of my personal time to work, if I wasn't doing so well it'd make more sense to give me less hours or more training, but I was doing very well with no mistakes. Knowing myself as well as I do I knew finishing those 2 weeks required the type of patience I have yet to develop so I quit sooner. The General Manager would keep calling me and asking me if I would work, and I said I would with the compromise that he would at least treat me with respect, but apparently I have to be his "Mom or Dad" to request that from him when it's expected from every human and especially Muslim (he's Muslim) naturally.
If you still intend on finding a job here make sure you have signed paperwork for EVERY agreement that you make or chances are you will get swindled, make sure you pay attention to your pay, make sure he pays you ONLY in check or the swindling will occur when it's in cash, make sure its a Manager & Employee relationship not a Slave & Slave Master Relationship and MAKE SURE you stick to your job description.
I'm not trying to be judgmental in a negative way, I'm telling it like it is, and it doesn't matter if you're Muslim as well because he'll still swindle you. He has even admitted to being (excuse my language) an "Ass Hole" of a person, and say awful things about many people including his amazing wife. If you are in desperate need of a job, then this place should be your FINAL resort. Posted on November 30, 2013 |
