★★★★☆ Assalamu'Alaikum,
After reading about some skepticism about Halal authenticity of The Castle restaurant near Cisco.
http://www.zabihah.com/ds.php?id=73
I was able to talk to the owner and had detail discussion about the Halal authenticity.
He assured that all meat on his restaurants is 100% zabiha meat. He accepted that his employees sometimes get annoyed by same person asking/arguing so many times about halal authenticity during the rush time, although there is a Halal sign and certificate posted.
He also made the argument that he sells Zabiha meat not just because of muslim customers, but because he wants to sell what he considers is halal for himself (both in eating and selling) and he pays high prices for the meat just because of this.
He buys meat from Indus food in Berkeley, I found it in this article along with other halal sources.

He requested me to pass this info to friends and co-workers. Posted on November 19, 2007 |

NR The tragedy is, inspite of the "Halal" sign, the items are not halal!! I was thunderstruck when I found this out. So I had a long, polite conversation with the owner. He said that it's not feasible for him to serve halal meat (I think he meant financially). Well, in that case, I suggested, let's remove the sign. He wasn't interested. As a "compromise" (heh heh!), he asked me to tell people that if they need halal meat, they should explicitly mention it and the employees will fetch some from the freezer. As you can imagine, I was extremely unimpressed by this (lack of) logic. That sign in the window is blatant lies. Only Allah knows how many Muslim brothers and sisters have fallen for it.
Anyway, as I said, our discussion was very polite and friendly. I think the owner took it too far when he finally called out to the lady who works behind the counter and pinned the blame on her: "Hey XYZ, it looks like you've feeding non-halal meat to our friend over here!" Wow! I did not know how to react. I tried to tell her that this was a dirty trick of her employer's, and she hadn't even figured in the conversation at all (after all, why should she have?), but I could tell she was not pleased.
I am not going back to a place that misleads fellow-Muslims and also lacks ethics. Posted on July 18, 2006 |

★★★★☆ Yes good place he also does not server alcohol like other places that server halal. I would just recomend he changed his menu every once in a while seems like the same thing all the time in his counters. Posted on October 30, 2004 |

★★★★☆ "A great lunch place. I've tried the falafal, chicken, and meatball pocket sandwiches and was very satisfied with all three. Sandwich-Gyros are very filling and packed. Had a little trouble with the large meatballs in the pocket-pita bread. Babaganouche was mediocre -- maybe I could have added some salt." Posted on December 31, 2002 |

★★★★☆ "I thought the gyros were the best I've tasted anywhere. They are absolutely overflowing with tender tasty beef and you actually have to grab a fork and knife to avoid spilling the ample portions of tahina and meat all over yourself. Fantastic. However I thought the meal was still a bit overpriced. It is obvious from their prices, clientele and hours that they cater to the lunch crowd. Closed in the evenings and on the weekends." ★★★☆☆ Others in my company eat there and say its a decent place for gyros. But you have to request the halal meat since they carry both halal and non-halal version of the gyros. Posted on June 21, 2000 |
