★★★★☆ Another desi restaurant in not great Neigbourhood but place is clean inside although bathrooms are not.
It's self service place like most desi places around but food quality is really good and low cost also. We tried lamb shanks, 🍗 tikka, Chana Masala with hot naan and loved it. Posted on March 23, 2017 |

★★☆☆☆ The food is not authentic at all and the place is a bit shabby/taxi joint atmosphere. The owner (or the main cook) is pleasant but the rest of the staff is a bit oblivious on how to take orders or cater to customers.
The chicken tikka was decent and freshly grilled however the raita/chutney seemed a week old with more water than chutney in it. The Nihari was terrible and seemed more like "Gosht ka Salan" than Nihari. The cook had no clue how to make proper Nihari and must have followed some back of the box recipe. The meat quality in the Nihari was also bad, lots of fat in the chunks. Posted on January 9, 2016 |

★★★☆☆ This is a nice sit in place to eat but not in a nice area so don't walk there after 8pm. We tried the tandoori chicken which was cooked fresh and tasted great!!(soft Posted on January 8, 2016 |

★★★★☆ Before I begin, here's my warning to tourists like us: do not come here in the late evenings with your wife and kids because of the shady neighborhood. My husband and I came with our 6 mo old in a stroller and although it's about a block near a busy area, it was not at all a place where we felt safe around 9:30pm. We took our chicken tikka, potato naAn, seekh kabobs and regular naan to go and we were not disappointed. Although it's a bit on the overly charcoal cooked side, the food is authentic and delicious. Now if only they would move to a better area and a restaurant with a better ambience, then they would be a 5 star winner. Posted on April 25, 2015 |

★★★★☆ My brother said a lot of good things about this place so I specially flew out from OC to SF to try this place.
I can say my trip was worth it. not only is the food tasty (Seekh Kababs) but the owner is a very nice and down to earth person. When I asked him the secret to such nice and juicy kababs, He was more than happy to share the recipe. I wish him best of luck and hope he opens a branch in OC Posted on February 14, 2014 |

★★★★★ Food was good, I loved it. Posted on November 5, 2013 |

|
★★★☆☆ There is a lot of sketchiness right outside the door. Don't make any eye contact with anyone, that's all I gotta say. The restaurant doesn't make a good first impression with flies everywhere and a desi uncle with messy clothes and hair. Having said that, the BBQ items were good but curry items not so much. ★★★★★ had a friday lunch over here. Good friendly service. Sure its not fine dining but food was tasty and freshly prepared. Naans hot and fresh.
I had the tandoori chicken curry and my wife had the tandoori botis along with some naan. Tasty and well prepared. Free chai and wifi only added to the already good service. Posted on November 11, 2012 |

★★★★☆ Went here for lunch recently. Had the chicken tikka (boti), lamb korma, and seekh kabob. Both BBQ items had big portions. I never order lamb at restaurants but the lamb korma was great. Prices were very reasonable and they accepted credit card. Free chai on tap. I'll definitely be returning soon.
Will have to try couple more dishes before I would make my review 5 star, but no complaints after first visit. Posted on November 11, 2012 |

★★★★☆ Went here recently for lunch with a friend. We tried the Lamb Korma (very good), the Chicken Tikka (Large pieces) and the Beef Seekh Kabab (large piece). Also ordered 3 regular naans and a Mango lassi. Everything was pretty good. Pluses: They accept credit card, prices are slightly LOWER than most other desi places, they don't charge extra for butter on naan, friendly service. Negative: The area is not very nice (tenderloin) and place does not look very appealing from the outside. But good food and good prices. Also complimentary chai which is a plus! ★★★★☆ excellent food and great prices....sketchy neighbourhood and no ambiance inside! Posted on July 15, 2012 |

★★★★★ Visited Tikka Masala while on a trip to SF after reading reviews on Zabihah.com. Very good food, great prices. Love the ambiance. Owner is much more educated/intelligent that he lets on. He was very helpful. My wife loved the chai. We regret that we couldn't visit a second time. Posted on July 4, 2012 |

★★★☆☆ Had lambchops. Tasted just ok. Owner was typical pakistian, but nice. Self service on the glasses etc. neighborhood is a bit sketchy Posted on January 4, 2012 |

★☆☆☆☆ Very rude customer service!! Gave us burnt food, even though we requested before hand not to give us burnt naan and chicken.
Second of all they charged me more then the actual bill was and had I not checked the bill they would have gotten away with it. The charging price according to them was different then what the actual menu they had listed.
Overall poor customer service, Burnt food, and cheating us on the bill! Was very disappointed in eating here after reading numerous good reviews, was very misleading :( Posted on December 27, 2011 |

★★★★★ Excellent food. Made to order and not pre-prepared and so was hot
And fresh. The manager was very nice and friendly. Highly recommended ESP since it is open very late. Posted on December 27, 2011 |

★★★★★ Best biryani in SF. I am not sure the goat biryani is as good as the owner believes it is, but the lamb and chicken are good deals. Posted on September 25, 2011 |

★★★★★ GREAT FOOD AND GREAT SERVICE. The owner/server/cook was really friendly and gave good service. The free chai was a plus in the chilly weather and the lamb chops were awesome.
The location is really bad. It's best to go with a couple of people because it has a lot of sketchy people. Wish the owner chose a better location. The food, however, compensates for the location.
Would come back here any day. Posted on July 11, 2011 |

★★★★★ Completely fell in love with the food here!!! reminded me sooo much of how food was like back home in Pakland. Tried Sindhi Biryani and tikka masala. My husband and I both ate to our heart's content. the mango lassi was good too and free chai was definitely a plus. the owner's sweet and the staff really helpful and nice. Wish I could go back to SF and eat here! had gulaab jaamuns for dessert even though was stuffed already and didnt regret one bit. they were melt-in-your-mouth good! Posted on June 1, 2010 |

★★★★★ I loved the food, the owner is friendly. The only down side is it's well designed but that won't prevent me from going back to it. Posted on May 26, 2010 |

★★★★☆ nice environment, good food. Chicken pakora is a good appetiser. Chai is free flowing. my family tried the lamb briya ni and shrimp briyani..no complaints. even the kids love the vegetable samosa. Posted on April 14, 2010 |

★★★★★ The food is really good. I was recomended by a friend and I went there. I loved it. The Goat Biryani is really good, the restaurant is clean, there is friendly service. Eat there, I recomend it too. Posted on January 9, 2010 |

★★★☆☆ Went there because of so many positive reviews. The owner is very nice and checks on you, which is good. The place is fairly clean, and with the music and tv, you really do get the sense that you are back home. The food, however, just wasn't that great. They kept insisting that we eat the goat, but my wife doesn't like goat, so we got the more traditional dishes such as chicken tikka and chicken karahi. It was just ok, nothing to write home about. I think that there are better choices for desi food in the SF area. Posted on November 24, 2009 |

★★★★★ When I went there I decided to try the goat. And the goat was very very good. I liked it because of how the goat was not tough. And the Spinach was very good too. I never had that before and I thought that it was very very delicious. And the Chicken Tikka Masala was very tastey too. It was creamy. Eat there. It's amazing. Posted on October 4, 2009 |

★★★★★ i went there with my friends and the food was amazing. i had the spinach with rice and i ordered raita. it was so good i ate the whole thing up. and you can also pray at the restaurant too. i loved the food so much, i could eat there everyday. Posted on July 24, 2009 |

★☆☆☆☆ We went to this place on our recent trip to SF. The food was way below quality. We ordered Chicken tandoori, Okra and Biryani. All of them were pretty flat. It took over 40 minutes for them to prepare our food. Posted on July 6, 2009 |

★★★★★ I've managed to not actually cry out "OOH!" but it was not easy. I ate there two nights on a recent trip (stayed at the Hilton). Excellent quality, attentive service, and generous portions. Posted on March 4, 2009 |

★★★★★ This is the first time that I am writing a review for any restaurant. My husband and I were quite unhappy with the kind of Indian food we were having until we’ve found the Indian restaurant on Ellis. The food here is very authentic and tasty. I would definitely recommend this to my friends. Go for it! Posted on March 4, 2009 |

★★★★★ This the best Indian/Pakistani restaurant EVER. do not believe that? try it out ^_^
It was about 8 months ago, when I was walking on Ellis St, and all of sudden I came across T.M. it was a great day when I discovered Tikka Masala.
I'm the person who don't like trying new food, specially when I'm HUNGRY but my friend pushed me up and I gathered my strengths and got in. it was such great food ever.
The thing I like best is that quiet atmosphere which helps me doing my work as I'm enjoying my food.
Malik (owner) became my best friend since then.
good news for internet user *_^ :::
the owner has just setup WiFi (internet connection), so for all crazy internet users I would say that you won't miss your connection anymore. just enjoying your food as you browsing your favorite websites. Posted on February 14, 2009 |

★★★★★ This is my favorite Indian/Pakistani restaurant in and around the Bay Area. I have been going there for at least a year, and if you love authentic Indian/Pakistani food but would rather not eat all the cream or yogurt sauces then this is your place. They have awesome Saag Paneer (Spinach and homemade cheese). Other favorites are Biryani, Chicken Karahi, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Daal. You should try for yourself! Posted on February 12, 2009 |

★★★★★ My girlfriend discovered this place by mistake and it turned out to be very pleasant ones we’ve ordered. We went there for my friend’s birthday. Everyone who went really likes Indian/Pakistani food and I must say we all agreed that they serve the best vegetarian cuisine. The whole experience is so different from any other Indian/Pakistani restaurant in San Francisco. We had a wonderful relaxed, leisurely time. The owner was great always checking in periodically to see if we need anything! I recommend this restaurant to everyone! Posted on December 21, 2008 |

★★★★★ OK. Informed of this spot in the area by the numerous Zabihah reviews, I managed to drop in for dinner a few days back. I suppose also, my 5 star is unduly influenced by the friendliness and unpretentiousness of the owner. As others have mentioned, he seems to enjoy sitting down and chatting with all the customers, as if he had all the time in the world and without the slightest trace of hustle in his discourse. He just projects a kind of laid-back delight in tending to his humble enterprise, just seems too odd in this day and age.
Amongst the many Indian/Pakistani restaurants I have eaten at, this restaurant is certainly at the top of the list in both the quality of food and price. Posted on December 20, 2008 |

★★★★★ I have tried many Indian/Pakistani restaurants in San Francisco and have been disappointed either with the food, the service or the ambiance. The last two weeks I have been to Tikka Masala three times and every single time the food and service was consistently great. No one can touch their delicious homemade food, especially the Samosa(s) and Saag Paneer. Posted on December 20, 2008 |

★★★★★ First I’ve tried this restaurant for dinner - their food is awesome, especially the Tandoore Chicken and the fresh Naan -yummy! Came back there for lunch, when we entered the place looked totally empty (unlike dinner time crowd). Service was friendly and attentive, following the advice of our waiter we chose to split SAMOSA, GOAT KARAHI, and PALAK PANEER - and never regret about our choice, the goat was wonderful, and the spinach was just what we were looking for - perfect combination of spices and rich flavor. I would strongly recommend Tikka Masala (at Ellis) to anybody. Posted on December 20, 2008 |

★★★★★ This place was recommended to me by my sister and we subsequently had an awesome dinner. The service was prompt, the ambience was nice, and the food was gloriously mouth-watering. We started with vegetable Samosas (which is a staple in almost every Indian/Pakistani restaurant) and then we decided to mix it up and also order Papadum...it was great! I couldn't believe how good it was! Afterwards, we ordered Sindhi Biryani and Chicken Tikka Masala and trust me, they will not disappoint. All in all, I think I may have found my new Indian/Pakistani spot! I highly recommend it! Posted on December 20, 2008 |

★★★★★ I love Tikka Masala! This is my top choice when I'm craving Indian/Pakistani food. You can't beat the prices and if you're lucky enough to go when the owner is working, you'll have the best company as well! Be careful when asking for "spicy" food though, because they don't hold back. Posted on December 19, 2008 |

★★★★★ Tikka Masala on Ellis Street is a restaurant that everyone should try out at least once. My friend told me about it and I went for dinner, and the food was cheap and delicious. The restaurant itself is a small, cozy place with cute pictures and lighting. The food was fresh and sizzling, with the plate leaving a trail of seasoned aromas behind it. The owner is very helpful with his recommendations of spicy or mild dishes (all of which were awesome). Lastly, the bathroom was extremely clean, the cleanest I've ever seen in an Asian restaurant. For me, the bathroom is really the critical point. If the staff can take the time to clean out the bathroom, it suggests their service and food is worth a try. I experienced eating here yesterday, and I must say, I definitely did not regret the experience. Go, and try it! Posted on December 18, 2008 |

★★★★★ Whenever I eat at Tikka Masala on Ellis (the other Tikka Masala places are awful) I am amazed at the quality of the food and the price you pay for that quality. The last time I was in I had the Samosa, you get two and they are fantastic. I also like the spinach, Palak Paneer. I have to say that the food and service are consistently good. At night the owner is always there tending to his customers. He really makes sure that they are satisfied. The restaurant has a nice decor and is very, very clean. If you're looking for terrific Indian/Pakistani food, that’s the right place to be.
Pros: Great prices, terrific homemade food Posted on December 16, 2008 |

★★★★★ Amongst the many Indian/Pakistani restaurants I have eaten at, this restaurant is certainly at the top of the list in both the quality of food and price. I've been to about a dozen Indian/Pakistani restaurants and this restaurant is outstanding. I chose this restaurant based on Yelp’s positive reviews since I was visiting from out of town and was unfamiliar with local restaurants. Choosing Tikka Masala turned out to be a great move, surpassing my high expectations. The Samosas were inexpensive and freshly made. The naan was fluffy and perfectly cooked. Usually naan is burned in many areas, yet this naan was burn-free. My boyfriend ordered Biryani, which tasted much better as at the restaurants that charge almost double for the same thing. The owner was concerned about the comfort of his guests, and seemed eager to please. We ordered extra naan, and it was out almost immediately, despite the packed house he was simultaneously attending to. At the end I was offered complimentary tea, which was an extra perk for such an already great meal. Posted on December 16, 2008 |

★★★★★ I love this place. The dining room is warm and inviting. The owner is always there at dinner and provides wonderful customer service every single time my girlfriends and I have eaten there. Most importantly, the food is exceptionally delicious. I highly recommend the Samosa, Chicken Tandoore, Daal, Sindhi Biryani, and my personal favorite, Saag Paneer. The food always arrives promptly and perfectly prepared. I have never eaten a bad dish here yet, and to date I've dined at Tikka Masala on Ellis Street more than a dozen times. I’ve eaten at quite a few restaurants serving Indian/Pakistani cuisine in the city, but none so far comes close to the quality and low prices of Tikka Masala. If you enjoy Indian/Pakistani cuisine or want to try it out for the first time, this is the perfect place to go.
Pros: Prices, service, food.
Cons: The neighborhood needs to be "cleaned up." And what I mean by that is the city management along with the police needs to get the drug dealers out. Posted on December 16, 2008 |

★★★★★ I decided to take the Samosa and Saag Paneer...and I highly recommend this! Their spinach melts oh-so-heavenly in your mouth.
I am from Tokyo (Japan), and if I happen to be in San Francisco, I would get my sweet ass into this little piece of nirvana and order up their yummies. Posted on December 15, 2008 |

★★★★★ Indeed, the owner is an adorable and honest man, who vaguely reminds me of uncle. If you're willing to get some awesome eats, you should definitely try this place. I think it was f***ing divine! I can't even believe the friendly owner doesn’t charge enough for the truly amazing meal. Posted on December 14, 2008 |

★★★★★ I come here at least once a week. The food here is just breathtaking. The owner is an incredibly nice guy and is genuinely appreciative of your patronage which always makes you feel very welcome. Not only do you feel great about the meal you just had, but you are also very glad to give this man and his family your business.
I can't say enough good things about this place and would recommend it to any and everyone. Posted on December 14, 2008 |
|
|
★★★★★ Please GO for it. It's wonderful.
I love this place so much that I wish I could give it 6 stars. I've only been here a few times and already I am in love. The owner is awesome; very personable. I told him I was going to write him a good review on Yelp, so here I am. HELLO & THANK YOU!
The food is the best I've ever had. And this is coming from someone who loves Indian/Pakistani food more than anything else. I'm literally salivating on my keyboard just thinking about it. So before I clean the slobber off my desk, I just want to say: you have to try this place out. You will love it. Posted on December 14, 2008 |

★★★★★ This place is excellent.
Let me start by saying, I don't think I have had friendlier service before. While I was waiting for the food, the owner would occasionally come to speak with me, ask me what directed me there (I told him about yelp, and he said he wasn't good with computers, hehe). I was the only one in there for a while, and the atmosphere was friendly.
This place is great, so, don't miss it! Posted on December 14, 2008 |

|
★★★★★ The owner is the nicest and most accommodating person you could meet. He seemed to keep the restaurant open past their closing time for us.
I've had Sindhi Biryani and Samosas, mouth-watering. I am going to try to have this place cater for my work. Let's see if I can hook some other folks onto this place. Posted on December 11, 2008 |

★★★★★ Tikka Masala has the best Indian/Pakistani food I've ever eaten. It is also in a relatively convenient location, not much of a walk from Market Street and close to Union Square for those adventurous tourists.
My favorite is the Palak Paneer, a wonderful spinach homemade cheese combination. It is absolutely wonderful with basmati rice or naan. Posted on December 10, 2008 |

|
★★★★★ Indeed, it is the best Indian/Pakistani food in and around San Francisco; as authentic as it can get. Indians and Pakistanis actually eat here.
The first time I came here, I did not think too highly of the place (location especially) until I've tasted the food and been hooked ever since. Posted on December 4, 2008 |
