NR Stopped by and a Vietnamese restaurant in its place Posted on December 31, 2017 |

★☆☆☆☆ Our first and last dinner at this place. First off we were standing outside the restaurant and the front desk guy came outside to spit on the ground almost next to us. That was disgusting but we were too hungry. Ordered tandoori masala which turned out to be butter chicken. Only the naan was fresh. Not a good place for desi food. Posted on January 8, 2016 |

★☆☆☆☆ This was my third visit to Tandoor and much to my dismay, a horrible one.
The food here is not half bad especially given that their prices are lower than most South Asian places in San Francisco. Of the things I've tried, the Tandoori Chicken Breast is pretty good, the Fish Pakora is decent and the Seekh Kabab is okay, though it doesn't really taste like Seekh Kabab. This is not the horrific part - the following is.
This visit, which is going to be my last, started off with a very rude waiter. I was kept waiting for quite a while and when I mentioned this to the waiter, far from apologizing, he started arguing with me. This left me rather frustrated but I decided not to make a big deal about it and just let it be. He brought out my food in a reasonable amount of time and it finally seemed like my dinner would wind up okay. Sadly that was not to be.
As I was eating my Fish Pakora, i felt something really sharp in my mouth. I suspected it was just a scale (something still not supposed to be in a Fish Pakora). It turned out to be a *staple pin*. I sighed with relief for a moment, glad I didn't end up with a tooth ache or a massive dental/medical bill and ushered the waiter over.
The waiter first tried to just refuse that the pin came out of my food. Then he picked up the pin I had taken out of my mouth, removed chewed food from it with his bare hands and proceeded to take the pin to the manager. Then nothing. No apology, no replacement of food - nothing. Oh, of course, the waiter just kept going about his business, not bothering to take the time to wash his hands afterwards.
Frustrated but not in the mood to argue with the rude waiter, I finished my food and asked for the bill, signed the check and proceeded to discuss the incident with the manager. The manager, who seemed nice enough earlier on had this to say - "You should have just returned the food, why didn't you send it back?"Also made sure to say that "I have been running restaurants for 11 years, this has not happened ever." So first off, it is my fault that there was a staple pin in my food? I failed to do something I was supposed to? And what are you trying to imply when you say in a monotone that this does not happen? Instead of apologizing you question the fact of the incident. Shameful! I will be reporting this to the Department of Public Health.
If you care about not having dangerous objects in your food or if you care about being treated with respect, I suggest you skip this place. Posted on May 26, 2014 |

★★★★☆ Note the sign outside the restaurant says "Tandoor on Haight". Stopped in here for a late lunch the other day. Tried the lamb vindaloo special (spicy curry with tender lamb pieces and potato) which was pretty good, though the sauce tasted a little too much tomato-y. Comes with a small side of daal (lentils) which was very good and fresh naan (excellent and even had a little butter on it). I also ordered a mango lassi, which at first had a little "spicy masala" taste, but luckily that went away after awhile. Interior of the place is nice and the service is friendly. They take credit cards and also give complimentary chai (tea) which is always a plus:)! Posted on June 25, 2012 |

★★★☆☆ Decent South Asian joint in the Haight Ashbury district. Food quality is okay, but a little pricey. Setting is okay and service is pretty good. Posted on May 16, 2010 |

★★★★☆ Fast, cheap, and tasty. Get a table along the sides; the center feels crowded. Posted on July 6, 2004 |
