★★★★★ This is a lovely little gem in Northampton. They have quite an extensive menu, including many breakfast items and beverages. When asked about their halal status, the worker at the counter said that all meat was halal (there is a sign on the door announcing they serve halal, too). My husband and I ordered lamb and vegetable couscous and mint tea. The lamb was very tender and seasoned very well, and the vegetables were also tender and abundant. Nothing fancy, but very similar to what you would actually find in Morocco. The mint tea was soothingly hot on a cold day, and not too sweet, but I thought it could have used more mint leaves. The dining space is small, and you clear your own dishes when done. We really enjoyed this place and would love to come back to try more of their foods, especially their fish dishes. ★★☆☆☆ Lamb is the only halal meat available. The sandwich was made in a pita wrap that fell apart quickly. Go with one of the tagine options instead. Posted on October 30, 2013 |

★★★★★ Moroccan & Mediterranean Cuisine. Owners: Abid & Hafid Assab serve breakast, lunch & dinner plus do catering. Eat in or take out. Place your order & it is brought to your table. My delicious Falafel plate at dinner with salad and pita was only $4.95. My wife's Lamb Shish Kabab in a pita was $5.50. Specify whether you want it mild or spicy. There was so much meat in it, she had to take part home. Shawerma is $5.75. The Amanouz Royal Feast with Humos, falafel, tabbouleh salad, musaka, & pita bread is $5.75. The most expensive meal with charbroiled fish (trout) over rice & with mixed vegetables is $9.75. It isn't Halal, but in this area there are no Halal or other Mideastern restaurants. And, there are plenty of vegetarian items plus Moroccan pizza and big salads. The Valley Advocate readers voted it the best in 2000, 2001 & 2002! Gourmet desserts or American-made mideast cookies compliment a nice meal. Authentic food & music. Credit cards accepted.
The seating area in the Amanouz Cafe is about 12' wide and 25' long. The restaurant is located on the South side of Main Street between other restaurants. Parking is on street or behind building for .25 per hour. Posted on April 17, 2002 |
