★☆☆☆☆ Oh boy.. where do i start. Firstly, the original Salt n Pepper is CLOSED!!!
The name changed something i cant spell or pronounce.... sold to a non-desi older folks. HOWEVER, these new owners have NO Idea about Indo-Pak food.. she said, "oh.. i dont like Pakistani food... it's too spicy for me" WHAT!!? how the heck you would know what is good/bad/ugly in taste? Their whole idea about owning/running a restaurant is messed up. AND Yes, I agree with a lot of Yelpers and ppl. here, the place IS DIRTY, Nasty... Fixture and furniture are broken, worn out, banged-up, falling apart. We were starving... ordered Biryani couldn't eat... Chicken Tikka Masala, yuck, couldn't eat. Thought of giving it to homeless person but felt guilty doing so.. after all they are also humans and deserve better. Finally searched for a good seafood place and ate there. $30 gone! Yet, I wish them well. Posted on March 2, 2017 |

★☆☆☆☆ This place is very expensive and food is very bad. I order Gyro the pieces of meat were fried and hard like biscuits. I also order Chicken masala the portion was small and they have lot of water to make this small portion. They do not make their own naan instead they use Deep's naan. They sell these naans for $2.00 a piece. Deeps naan available from any desi shop it is available for under $2 for 5 piece so they are making more than 5 times the profit. I will never go to this place again ... Posted on August 25, 2016 |

★☆☆☆☆ This is really a very dirty place. Avoid it or be sorry. Posted on May 9, 2016 |

★☆☆☆☆ Goat biryani.Worst food in my life. I found a long white hair strand in it. The stinky meat was just bones and veins. Posted on October 19, 2015 |

★★★☆☆ the guy at the front desk was friendly, we went to this place as we are in the French quarter and wanted to try some desi food. He only had Chicken curry and Chicken Biryani available as he mentioned nothing else is ready. We had both of these items with Roti. Out of everything, their roti was the best and i mentioned that to him as well. There was room available to pray as well. Posted on September 18, 2015 |

★★★☆☆ The staff is friendly and provides good service. Not much by way of ambience. Food tastes good, but the portions are small for the price. Conveniently located near the big hotels around Canal St and the French Quarter. Posted on April 13, 2015 |

★★★★★ The food was good and generous. The place was not so decorated but it has a nice old view, in harmony with its area. It is better if they cover the kitchen and it will give a better look to their restaurant. But we like the food. we ordered gyro platter and fried chicken platter both were big and generous portions and taste good. in these three days in New orleans we went there everyday and alhamdolelah it was good Posted on February 24, 2015 |

★★★☆☆ This place does not look appealing from the outside and the dining area is also not very clean. The food is not the best. but acceptable and service is also average. I went there a few times however since there is not much options in the area. Posted on December 31, 2014 |

★★★☆☆ Went here a few times during my visit. The food was a hit or miss. Also the dining area is not very good...but there are really no other options in the area. Posted on November 7, 2013 |

★★★☆☆ The good thing is the presence of a sign that says that The meat is Halal, unlike other restaurants. Location is excellent near convention center and French Quarter. Don't expect a fancy place, just a good place to have your meal or take a way. Posted on September 29, 2013 |

★★☆☆☆ If you are hungry and have absolutely no option then the food is going to meet your minimum needs. The biryani is not anywhere resembling biryani, the bread that comes with the kabob is essentially a frozen paratha served up, the sides are virtually non-existent. Ambiance is essentially that of something on the lower end of the scale that you would consider eating in. I would venture to say that no one would bother going back if there were any other desi halal redcurrants in the area. Guy behind the counter seemed fine but the product was severely lacking unfortunately. This review is based on chicken kabab and the keema biryani (each around $10 each). Posted on January 6, 2013 |

★★★★★ We found the food and service quite good. Parking is an issue as you have to park in the commercial parking lot across the street. The biryani wasn't very good but we really liked the goat masala, chicken pulao, fried shrimp, chicken tikka boti, gobi aalo and nan was really good. Doodh pati excellent! Service was also v quick. ★★☆☆☆ i used to go there for their burgers but now its under new managment the pakistani guy is not there any more. parking is a pain, now they have frozez burgers. Anyway I used to go there once amonth and after my last two visits since the new owner took over quality is not good. i miss my burgers their biryani is the same though BUT THAT IS ABOUT it. sorRY NOT going there anymore. ★★★☆☆ I first went to this resturant when i had to go and work in mississippi. I came all the way to try this resturant because of it reviews and i found it really good.
Now i went to this resturant again last week and i found out that this resturant is not owned by that pakistani guy any more and some labenese guy is running it. Its not called Salt n Pepper anymore. Obviously due to which the quality of that pakistani food has gone down a bit. I believe the cook is still the same so the owner will try to run Pakistani menu as well as labenese. However, the quality of Pakistani food would be average and the only safe thing now would be biryani.
Parking is also an issue. Every time i went there, i had to spend $6 for parking as its not easy to find parking close by. Posted on October 15, 2011 |

★★★★★ This restaurant is a great, casual place to eat! The food and service were excellent. I would recommend the nihari and the seekh kabobs. It is located in downtown New Orleans. Don't expect a lavish setting though. Posted on June 6, 2011 |

★★★★★ Very good food and tea. We had the pilau and chicken tikka and it was delicious. The staff was very friendly indeed and the service was extremely quick. A MUST if you are ever here. Highly recommend. Posted on May 27, 2011 |

★★★☆☆ We had a trip to New Orleans in the new year holiday. The first resturant we tried was Salt'n Pepper. It was in a walking distance from the hotel we stayed at (Hilton Riverside). My opinion is:
Food is good and spicy (chilli)
Place is small, only few tables.
Place is average interms of cleaning.
The guy working overthere was a student from Sudan and he was a nice person with us. Posted on January 24, 2011 |

★★★★★ Rest. is owned by Irfan khan a Muslim from Pakistan. Over at salt n pepper our philosphy is to provide our customers with home like atmosphere and food that tastes like your moms coocking. we eat here every day all meals and beleive me we dont coock at home at all. that is the level of our commitment to our guests.
We coock it upon your order so you can ask for level of spice of your choice. Posted on August 3, 2010 |

★★★★★ I was attending a conference in New Orleans last week and was very pleased to find a very restaurant with great food, conveniently located to both the Convention Center and French Quarters. Being able to order and eat in an establishment with a broad menu option was an added benefit. Staying for six days, I was able to sample many different items and all were delicious.
I also liked the fact that no alcohol was served, unlike most of the other eating establishments in the area. Very suitable for everyone. Posted on June 22, 2010 |

★★★★★ The only reason for me to give it 5/5 is because of the amazing Biryani & it was spicy, but i loved it...but the only negative thing is it doesn't have any parking lots around it! Posted on January 18, 2009 |

★★★★☆ Luckily we went they were not too busy so we did not have any problem with the seating. After reading the other reviews I was a little apprehenive about going to this place. I guess they did a little bit of cleaning up. We tried the biryani and pakoras, it was great. We were given a large quantity of food. Posted on November 25, 2007 |

★★★★★ I was in New Orleans for a week and stayed in downtown. Very few choices for Halal Meat and i tell u this is the best you can get in downtown area. Great food, authentic pakistani taste, new young owner, fast service. I really didn't miss home as we ate from this place almost every night. I would recommend it highly if you're staying in downtown and want good pakistani food. Dining in can be sometimes a bit shady, but you can always take out!
I would definitely go back there. Posted on August 17, 2007 |

★★★☆☆ I was in New Orleans for a conference and stopped by on several occasions given the limited zabihah choices. The restaurant is currently owned by an American, who bought it after hurricane Katrina from the original Pakistani owner. He assured me that everything was zabihah and that his meat supplier is M. T. Halal Meat in Bassfield, Miss--he showed me the meat inventory and indicated that local imams eat there regularly and approve of it.
The food is ok taste wise and I would suggest only ordering the seekh kababs, everything else is quite bland. The service is mediocre at best unless the owner is helping you--the desi's working there could care less. Normally, I would only visit a place like this once and never return however given the almost non-exisistant halal choices in New Orleans, the convenient downtown location of this place, and the lack of a car during my stay, made this a definite life saver--I guess beggars can't be choosers. ★★★★☆ I order the chicken karahi first day it was okay authentic Pakistani taste but not spicy at all. It was a weekend the next day so I order the take out; I reached there after 30 min I had to wait for another 30 min it was really busy. After reaching the hotel i found out that half of the kababs were burned on one side. So I guess you need to check the food before you leave the hotel. The beef burger was really good and so were the kababs.
Very tiny restaurant not a lot of place to sit so I would recommend a take out. Posted on March 25, 2007 |

★★★★☆ I lived in NOLA for 5years and have gone to this restaurant many times. The food varies from excellent to average depending on when you go. The place does need to be cleaner, but for take out its ok. Posted on April 6, 2006 |

★★★☆☆ The food was good but the place needs renovation. It's not a very clean restuarnt and that makes u uncomfortable. Posted on April 20, 2005 |

★★☆☆☆ We walked in and we walked out. The person in the front did not bother to turn around and greet us. The food layed opened for I don't know how long. The place needed some serious cleaning, the doors , walls etc. The person who finally showed-up from the back did not reassure us when questioned if the Food was Zabiha or NOT. Customer Service SUCKS it was 6.30PM on a FRIDAY evening. NORTH TEXAS - DALLAS Posted on March 28, 2005 |

★★★★☆ This is a conveniently located fast food place for visitors. I was in town for a convention and found the location to be very convenient.
It would be nice if he upgraded his interior decor a bit, but over all the place is worth visiting. Posted on March 8, 2005 |

★★★★★ I was visiting New Orleans last week with my wife, and we made the effort to visit this restaurant. Needless to say, we were happy to have eaten there. The restaurant is right across the street from the large mall downdown, and convenient to all the Jackson Square attractions. At first sight, the restaurant looks rather modest, resembling a Subway sandwich shop. Nevertheless, the food was excellent, on all fronts. They have both American and Indian cuisine on the menu. I sampled both, and everything was excellent. The kulfi and ghajur ka hulwa (carrot sweet) were as authentic and savory as it gets. We ate lunch there, and then actually got a take out order to eat as dinner later that evening. The indian dishes were on the spicy side, but I'm sure that you can ask them to tone that down if you prefer milder eating. Very friendly staff, no doubt.
FYI, they do offer free delivery to nearby hotels and the like. Prices were very reasonable, as we spent $35 for what amounted to 2 meals. This was quite refreshing considering what the typical New Orleans meal costs a hungry tourist. Posted on January 6, 2005 |

★★☆☆☆ It just another shack kind of place with very ordinary food. I think ambience kills the taste more. Shami Kebab was horror, chcicken masala ok, and biryani was too fragrant with fake saffron. Posted on December 17, 2004 |

★★★★★ I have been all around north america and always try to find a desi restaurant to eat
Got a big surprise when i started eating my chicken korma . it was the best i had ever eaten any where Posted on September 3, 2004 |

★★★★★ The keema curry here was the best I have eaten anywhere. Coarse chopped fresh meat, fresh ground spices, and delicious. I am from NYC and went here on the recommendation of a cab driver while in New Orleans. If it were in NYC I would eat there every week. Posted on March 14, 2004 |

★★★☆☆ I love this place. Posted on December 27, 2003 |

★★★★★ What a surprise! Having eaten at halal restaurants in all the major "desi" cities, I did not expect much from one of only 2 halal restaurants in New Orleans. The food was Bhagwaaan!!!! Literally. So good. So Fresh. Made to order right on the spot. Portion sizes were huge. The kitchen is not hidden away in the back but right out frong and you can see how clean it is. Staff was friendly and went out of their way. Even offered to fill our kids bottles up with milk on our way out. You can't go wrong with this place. Now, a bit of a warning---"Preppy" types may be put off by the fact that the back of the restaurant shares space with a gift store with only a curtain in-between. Every once in a while you'll hear the cha-ching of a cash register as souveniers are bought...but we were so focused on "hubbing" the deluctable food that it didn't bother us a bit.
For dessert we had ghajur ka hulwa (carrot sweet). Made fresh (carrots shredded in front of us) and delicious on the spot. Great. Posted on December 19, 2003 |

★★★★☆ I live in New Orleans and we have only two halal restaurants so far and I have frequented this one quite a few times and even compared to other restaurants in bigger cities. I would say it compares very favorably. Well made food, almost homely feel. The milieu is simple, basic, so may not suit a lot of families But the take out option is always available. ★★★★★ The food at this restaurant is excellent. The people are very nice. Its a casual atmosphere and you can find items for less than 10 bucks also. The meat is guranteed to be halaal. My favorite dish here was the chicken tikka. I hear the biryani here is his specialty. Definately check it out if you are in the area. One of the muslim guys at the local gift shop had told us about this place. Six blocks from French Market. Posted on May 20, 2002 |
