NR I have tried almost all Halal restaurants in Houston but this one is definitely the WORST. The staff are extremely rude! To the extent that we had to cancel the order and just leave!!!! Never ever going there even if it's the last halal restaurant on earth!! Posted on August 30, 2017 |

★★★★☆ Unless you're white don't expect to be treated right. We weren't treated badly but we could tell the staff served non Desi's better. Friday night at 8 pm was extremely crowded, around 15 minute wait time. The biryani is really good. The biryani serving size was enough for two people. It's expensive about $12 for biryani. For each dish it ranges from $12 to $15. Was not over charged like other reviewers have mentioned. Garlic naan was ok, a bit on the crispy side. I would go back for the biryani. NR Just felt discriminated. We were a party of 7, were told to wait as they were full. smaller parties were given tables, which is fine. Another party of 7 of goras came, they combined 2 table for them right away, while we looked. But pretty quickly the owner realized that we were not going to sit silent, so a table was made right away for us. After we were seated, no one came to offer us menu or water and it took another 20 minutes before anyone took our order. We have now been sitting for 35 minutes and no one has offered us water. Upon asking the owner said we r short of staff, but the waiters kept on serving non- desi. It is very clear that they don't care about locals. Posted on December 27, 2016 |

★★☆☆☆ Not worth the money. Biryani is average, hara chicken is slightly above average but very salty, grill is just ok. Service is severely lacking. Heard a lot about this place but was extremely disappointed. Prices are ridiculously high. Will never return. Posted on August 30, 2015 |

★★★★★ It's funny to read all the five star and one star reviews here. Yes the owner definitely has a personality, can come across as positive or negative, never neutral lol. I ONLY get takeaway, not a fan of decor or service. But here's why I keep coming back... Himalaya serves the best goat biryani in town. Period. And one order will feed at least two. I also greatly enjoy their Steak Tikka. It's your steak meat but completely masala desified. For folks who eat less spicy food, I recommend chicken tikka boti and chicken chargha (very good). Please don't complain about prices y'all... be very grateful to have such excellent desi food options available for your picky palate. Compared with similar quality food (would be hard to find), the prices are a steal in my opinion. Himalaya food, not service, is a cut above the rest. Posted on July 25, 2015 |

★★★☆☆ Great food, amazing karhai and Biryani. But awful service. So bad. Rude waiter but hard working bus boys. Yet still attracts a very diverse crowd Posted on June 18, 2015 |

★☆☆☆☆ Owners attitude is terrible. He will insult customers in front of everyone if you complain about their service or quality. Over priced food. Will not be returning. Posted on May 8, 2015 |

★★★★☆ I've been there many times over the past 4 years. I like their goat biryani very much. Posted on March 8, 2015 |

★☆☆☆☆ The staff and owner is unprofessional and rude. One of my guests ordered a fish curry and she mentioned to the server that the fish didn't smell right and seem old. Any intelligent server would have apologized and corrected the issue. But this skinny server, who clearly lacked common sense, brought the owner to our table. The owner was very rude and condescending, claiming that the fish is fresh and my guests' sense of taste is the issue. Ultimately, he did offer to replace the dish.
The owner told us to hurry up eating and leave, because he had a white family waiting for the table.
We will never be returning to this place. And I encourage Muslims to visit better run and managed restaurants. Posted on September 9, 2014 |

★☆☆☆☆ Worst food in Houston. Owner is a rip off. He over charges people. I regret going to that place. The food is prepared for non Indians. Its taste less. Everything is so over priced and it is not worth the money at all. I hated that place. Be careful, if you do make a mistake going there. He will try to rip you off. Posted on March 17, 2014 |

★★★★★ I had read other people's review about the attitude, so I always order take out. I actually had no problem at all, the manager was nice enough to me when I go pick up the food, ha. The food has been consistently great. I have ordered from there about 5 or 6 times, and I try to get different items. Everything has been excellent!! The place is not pretty and kind of dirty, but man is it happenin' (with non zabiha eaters).... so I guess they are doing something right. Posted on December 19, 2013 |

★☆☆☆☆ The owner is not Muslim so be carefull about the Halal menu. Price is quite high compare to the environment. And he added 20% service charges without knowing you. Posted on September 12, 2013 |

★★★★★ after reading all the reviews my expectations were really low. however the biryaniii was amazing!! the owner is nice as well.. the head waiter is a lil stuck up...buh overall wasn't a bad experience for me. Posted on August 27, 2013 |

★★★☆☆ Food is decent but it is a bit over priced. Owner came across as a bit rude and created a fuss about splitting bill between 3 people. Posted on August 3, 2013 |
|
|
★★★☆☆ Their food is pretty decent and their Mix Platter is my favorite by far! But I think it is a bit pricey for the atmosphere and on top of that, the owner is a soup-nazi. He walks around asking people if they like their food but does not take any criticism well and jumps on defensive immediately. He makes a big fuss about splitting bill on separate cards and regardless of the number of people in your group, he will add tip to your bill without your consent. Posted on July 26, 2013 |

★☆☆☆☆ The fact that this restaurant is still running proves that human taste buds are more important than human dignity. Although I liked Himalaya's Biryani the two times I had it, despite being over priced, I will never go back here because of the owners awful, disgraceful manners. He made a mistake in my friends order and bill and when she kindly asked him to correct it, he exploded on her saying all sorts of rubbish in front of the entire restaurant. This man has no respect for other people, let alone a Muslim sister old enough to be his daughter.
I valve respect over a single meal and will not support tyrants of this kind. If the owner treats his paying customers like this, imagine how he treats his employees. Yicks! Posted on January 12, 2013 |

★☆☆☆☆ I hate the food. Its terrible. The service is also terrible. And the maximum seats you can get is 5. So don't go with friends! Posted on January 1, 2013 |

★☆☆☆☆ So we get here and place our orders. I felt like getting some haleem and, dear god the torture on my taste buds.it tasted watered down and scraped off the bottom of the pot.
the guy at the counter was unbelievably rude, and looks to rip you off adding service charges.
was having a good time with family all day and this place ruined it in the end.
Avoid it!! Posted on November 17, 2012 |

★☆☆☆☆ Never go to this place. If you EVER do, look at your bill VERY carefully. He is known to tag on random charges. His favorite one is a "service charge". Heck, I had two service charges on my bill! Extremely rude customer service by the owner. He is all about getting the last nickel and dime from you.
But there is a trick. Go there with a White guy! He wont argue with them. When I couldn't make sense out of my check, I had my White coworker go up to the owner and ask for an explanation. What do I know. He conveniently took all the extra charges off, and even gave him a smile! Posted on June 15, 2012 |

★★☆☆☆ I will be honest in my review. Ordered biryani and quantity was good. The food spoiled in few hours - 4-6 even after keeping it in the refrigerator. Never plan catering from here. We ordered one tray for 100$ and then asked him to add one more tray and paid $100 more. When we went to pick up, the owner gave only one tray and he said "this will be enough". So we said we paid for two trays but he refused to give another tray and refused to return our money. We fought for the money but he never gave back. Once he told a lady coworker "you need to pay good tip orelse my workers wont work for me". What an unprofessional and idiotic behavior from the owner. May Allah guide this man who is an embarrassment to the customer service industry. Posted on May 5, 2012 |

★★★☆☆ wow, never seen so many negative comments about the owner and customer service.
I heard alot of good reviews about the goat biryani and decided to go try it. It was pretty good but very expensive. I can get the same thing at mezbaan across the street for a few dollars cheaper.
mango lassi was nothing special.
the waiters here are tards. they dont understand english it seems and they just nod yes for everything.
Me: Excuse me, can I get some more raita?
Waiter: **Nods yes.
Me: **Thinks.. where the hell is it?
Me: Aap paagal hai?
Waiter: **Nods yes. Posted on January 30, 2012 |

★☆☆☆☆ putrid food, i think they fed me 2 day old food. Based on the food quality, I will never come back here again. Place was filthy, owner was rude, and again, the food was horridly disgusting. I hate that people lose their passion for feeding people good food, and all they care about is money. Posted on January 7, 2012 |

★☆☆☆☆ It is restaurant best suited for TOGO. DO NOT plan to eat as the experience will be horrible.
Firstly, I do not trust a place claiming halal and allowing people BYOB (bring your own beer) I haven't come across any halal restaurant doing that. Please be careful in this matter. Posted on November 5, 2011 |

★☆☆☆☆ Owner needs to go to school to learn customer service. He also needs to improve his restaurant appearance. There is no doubt that he makes good biryani but also there is mo doubt that he wants to over charge you. Be careful! Always check your total before you pay. Posted on October 30, 2011 |

★★★☆☆ good gola kabob, average chicken charga, nihari was OK, not bad. biryani was ok too. we went to there during the lunch hour. don't expect smiley faces. that didn't happen to us, we were directed to our table, just like a traffic officer signal to traffic to move forward. again just like i always say, don't expect a high class customer service in Desi restaurant, its not gonna happen, don't go with this expectation. just go in there to eat the food. ★☆☆☆☆ The food at Himalaya is average for Indian cuisine compared with other similar restaurants in the Houston area and overpriced for the quality. Leftover menu items prepared for lunch are served again for dinner, albeit much drier and less appealing for the wear. There is absolutely no ambience. The owner (aka Kaiser) has his cluttered desk placed prominently within the dining area where employees take turns reclining in a chair while rubbing their eyes and faces.
Worse, the proprietor can be a real jerk as was the case during our recent visit with several guests.
There is constant grinding chaos in this restaurant. Service is slow and inadequate. It was an effort obtaining basics such as silverware and napkins. Two of us never received requested glasses.
The establishment's BYOB policy allows for the consumption of alcohol on premises.
Dealing with the proprietor was akin to haggling with a used car salesmen. The proprietor attempted to increase his profit margin by aggressively suggesting additional food items and by substituting complimentary naan bread which accompanies many of the entrees with garlic naan bread at an undisclosed additional cost. This and other costs were not shared with patrons until a careful examination of the meal's bill revealed problems.
The final bill was not itemized consisting only of a confusing jumble of numbers and letters in place of food and drink items thereby making it impossible to determine how much each person owed for their portion of the meal.
The owner was reluctant to disclose how the bill was calculated. We ended by paying what the owner described as being due for each diner. However, it was apparent that the amounts quoted were far in excess of the actual cost of the food ordered by each person. Worse, an inexplicable "service charge" was added to each person's bill which further inflating each diner's final cost.
Unfortunately, our dining experience became substantially worse. While paying at the front counter, the owner unexpectedly began loudly screaming at one of our female guests who was in the process of paying for her meal. The owner claimed that she was insulting the waiter by her decision to tip only 15% rather than a 20% tip then demanded by the owner. The owner continued to angrily insist on a 20% tip per person in spite of there being only four individuals in our small party. According to the printed menu, only parties of 6 or more pay a mandatory 20% gratuity.
The woman attempted to calmly explain to the owner that her order was not correct, that she never received her complimentary naan bread after several requests, and several other small issues that contributed to her decision to tip (in my opinion based on the poor service a generous) 15%. The owner continued to shout angrily at the woman, preventing her from expressing her concerns. The owner directed so much abuse at the poor female patron in the open dining area that I was forced to intervene on behalf of our guest.
As a result of the extremely ugly abuse directed at our female guest by the owner (and our party in general) we will never return and recommend that others with any self-esteem consider dining elsewhere as well. Better Indian food at reasonable prices accompanied by a more genial ambience can be found at too many other Indian establishments making it unnecessary to tolerate the abusive owner of this particular restaurant. ★★☆☆☆ Agree with the comments of crizviii what kind of Halal resturant is this where they allowed alcohol I am also witness of that. No doubt the food is tasty but no authentication of maet is Zabiha or not since the owner is not Muslim. Posted on September 16, 2010 |

★☆☆☆☆ I registered for a zabihah.com account just to give my review on this resturant.
when you search for a halal resturant you would expect atleast a decent dining place.
sorry to say but i cant recommend this to anyone where its BYOB( bring your own booz) what kind of halal dining is this that we are sitting with our family and ppl are drinking all around us. tsk tsk.
now lets begin with the food actually.
yes it is good but quite pricey and if i am on hilcroft i have a lot and i mean a lotttt of halal options which do not involve the cheesy guy working the orders at himaliyas who just forces u to order the biryani,i mean there is a limit to be pushy but he crosses everything and than he keeps interepting the dinner by acting all friendly which again i find quite offense the way he keeps on barging into convos. ★★★★★ wow, the biryani was top notch.. the 1st bite took me back to india and had me reminiscing about the great food I had back there. I live in austin and eating food like this makes me envious of the lucky folks who live in houston. i will be going back to this place everytime i visit houston. Posted on June 5, 2010 |

★★☆☆☆ i have to give credit to the quality and taste of the food...it's excellent. what i don't like is the owner's office desk on the restaurant floor and, like most people complain about, his billing practices. i'm sure he takes home a good amount of extra cash every day by cheating people out of a dollar here and there. i thought they were honest mistakes the first couple times but now i refuse to go back. even his "itemized" bill is useless. with all that extra cash, he needs to invest in a better cash register which actually lists each item's name along with price. NR To tell you all the truth non of our friends want to go to this restaurant because of the owner. He keeps insisting everyone to order more even if we dont want to.
We went there once and ordered biryani because we heard it was good. the biryani was good. He never gave us the menu and kept saying that we should order this ,this and this.
People go out to eat to enjoy themselves.
Bottom line is his attitude stinks!! Posted on March 31, 2009 |

★☆☆☆☆ WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE.
Pricy menu with little serving. Not enough to fill your stomach. Really Bad Customer Service. Someone recommended the biryani so I went to have it. As I was eating the owner kept asking me about having lassi, ras mallai etc to give me a hefty bill. I politely said because I just wanted to try the biryani.
When I went to the counter to pay the bill the bill came out to be 9.75 and the owner told me that he won't be able to accept the CC because it is less than 10.00. So I ordered a somosa to go to make the bill 10.00 + .
As I was putting the total to the bill he kept watching at the receipt to figure out how much tip would I leave. I realized the situation so I purposely decided to leave some cash at the table for the waiter. Then when I was signing the receipt he could not resist and told me that "GRATUITY" is not included in the bill. Com'n every one knows that. He just wanted me to leave tip on the CC, but I did not.
Then as I was leaving he was telling the waiter that he did a poor job because the customer did not leave any tip.
I think that guy does not deserve to run a place like that, as he does not care about customers and does not know anything about customer service. I think that customer service is the first thing restaurant owners should think about if they want to grow their business.
I WOULD NEVER GO THAT PLACE AGAIN. Posted on August 17, 2008 |

★★★★★ The food is excellent although takes time in preparing. Biryani and Resha kabab are a must try. Also they have sweet dishes like shahi tukra and gajar ka halwa. Posted on October 3, 2007 |

★★☆☆☆ Bad customer service and takes forever to serve.Charged me about 5 dollars of sevice fee and I dont think it was wriien in the menu. Simply cheating people! I thought it was too expensive beacuse we had to spend 25 dollars for 2 people(without any drinks). Posted on July 25, 2007 |

★★★★☆ Hats off to the quality of food, it's awesome! Authentic Paki food, no doubt - Chicken Biryani and Karahi are highly recommended. The interior is not all that but I can let that go since the food is satisfactory. It seems like a husband-and-wife owned and operated place, both seemed very sweet. HOWEVER, I wonder a couple of times I had food there why I walked out having spent around 15+ bucks a meal. If you want to spend less than 10 bucks on a meal, I would certainly not go there. Granted, the food is good, but not great for the money (unless I got over-charged twice!). Posted on January 26, 2007 |

★★★★★ The food is very well prepared and the owners go out of thier way to please you. Try the Curry Chicken Handi. The tase is exceptional and extremely complex. Their samosa's are excellent! Their bread and all the food is fresh. Also, the chicken biryani is a great bargain with lots of food for the price. Yes, the decor is simple, but the food is complex, prepared just then and tasty.
