The staff of this restaurant has verbally confirmed halal status. Current Soy Sauces are in glass bottles labeled Kikkoman, however they are not Kikkoman soy sauce, it is another brand that is certified by the Halal Chinese Authority of China. Some of the menu items still say Wine Sauce, or Duck, or Ox Tail, however they do not, nor will they carry those products in the restaurant. The seafood is cooked in a different pot/wok/pan as the beef/lamb/chicken.

NR How can we find out if the meats are halal. Love the food Posted on July 27, 2016 |

★★★★★ Amazing sweet and sour beef. It is so much better that any sweet and sour chicken that I have had in my life. Also there portions are generous. Posted on July 24, 2016 |

NR I heard this place isn't halal!! I love this place.
The owner is not a Muslim and when I asked her if the food was halal, she says,"ya ya!" But she doesn't tell where she gets the meat from. Posted on February 11, 2016 |

★★★☆☆ Muslim Eastern House Restaurant or Woo Hing looks like they changed their name .. not sure if they have something to hide or not Posted on June 27, 2015 |

★☆☆☆☆ This is my most recent review
I heard from the HFSAA Facebook page that this place is no longer under HFSAA certification. This doesn't mean it's not halal. It just means that we don't know if it is or if it isn't. While they still have the sign up, we still can't be sure that they offer halal meat.
I hate to be one of those people who nitpick on which restaurant has hand slaughtered versus machine etc, but in this case, if they are posting a HFSAA sign without proper adherence, then it's not right.

09/08/2013: I like the food. Standard Chinese food, loaded with sodium.
But I do love their kung pao. Lots of fresh veggies, really spicy.
The service is what you expect at a Chinese restaurant-- slow service, one person serving everyone. She's really nice and tries to serve well but she's the only one.
We'll be back when we want good Chinese food. It's one of the better establishments, from a food perspective. Ambiance is "meh" but it's what you expect. Posted on February 5, 2015 |

★★☆☆☆ Food was just ok, nothing special. Personally I wouldn't go back again. Spices seemed to lack flavor and not sure if everything on menu would be classified as halal. Posted on January 19, 2015 |

★☆☆☆☆ The lady at front desk very rude. She can't speak English and don't understand order properly.
Very disappointed what happened with me and will not go there again EVER!!! Posted on November 26, 2014 |

★★★☆☆ I recommend ordering takeout, place is not to fun to dine in. Decent chinese food. Don't compare to the original Eastern House style of cuisine. Definitely eat their Garlic Hot Sautéed Fried Chicken. Posted on November 9, 2014 |

★★★★★ My family and I have been long-time customers of Eastern House since their early days in the old Tri City complex on Grimmer. Let me say, the food here is absolutely scrumptious. If you're looking for fusion-cuisine like Indian-Chinese or watered-down versions of Chinese food, look elsewhere. This place serves up authentic, affordable Chinese fare with excellent speed. As others reviewers have mentioned, the service and decor may not be the best you've experienced, but it's no hole in the wall either. All the dishes I have tried have been excellent, with special recommendations for their house lamb, spicy cumin lamb, chong qing chicken that will make your tongue go numb and pancake noodles. More familiar dishes like beef and broccoli and sweet and sour chicken are all similarly incredible. From someone who has been exposed to authentic Chinese cuisine from a young age, I give this place two thumbs up from the bottom of my heart and I sincerely hope the community supports them. Bring the whole family, they'll love it. Posted on October 10, 2014 |

★☆☆☆☆ We were excited to try this restaurant but was sorely disappointed. Terrible reception, and a sarcastic tongue by the reception when she found out we needed to find an ATM to get cash.
We walked out. Posted on August 5, 2014 |

NR We went here for dinner on a Saturday night. For authentication purposes they have halal certification posted, but restaurant doesn't appear very inviting or clean. There are cob webs hanging from the ceiling, food is below average. Flavor and taste is the biggest missing part of it, I will not return here for halal food. Posted on January 27, 2013 |

★★★☆☆ gotta agree with the previous reviews, overall its an ok meal, nothing exciting.
we came at a time when no one else was in the restaurant and still the service was non-existent. it doesnt seem they have a wait staff as the people just stood behind the counter. the food was pretty average, really large portions, but the taste had something missing.
the place is cash only, so come prepared. they have seating for about 75 people. they seem to have a busy take out business, so expect delays in your dine in experience. Posted on January 2, 2013 |

★★★☆☆ Went here for dinner on a Sunday night. They don't seat too many so it was pretty packed and you could tell the kitchen was backed up.
Menu is familiar to anyone who eats out at Chinese restaurants. Food was good overall. Will need to try more to get an idea what their signature dishes are. Someone suggested choose what they list on their lunch menu. Will try that.
I would recommend this restaurant. Just be aware ordering takes some time and they don't have many people waiting tables. Order in advance if you have take out. I think they will figure out how to be more efficient soon.
I have a lot of hope for this place. The fact it is hfsaa certified is huge.
edit: now 3 stars. They stopped taking credit cards and last couple of times food wasn't consistently good. Posted on December 26, 2012 |

★★★☆☆ I was excited when I walked in because the menu says this is the same restaurant as the Eastern House Muslim Chinese restaurant in Cupertino, and formerly of Fremont. However, after eating our food, it wasn't the way I remembered it. We ordered the Chinese hamburger, hot and sour soup, kung pao chicken and cumin beef. The food appeared fresh, but something was missing in each dish. Woo Hing needs to step it up in the taste department if they want to succeed in the Fremont market. Posted on October 11, 2012 |
